Official Cornell Class of 2019 Regular Decision Applicants!!!!!

Interviews that play a role in your admission decision are conducted only for AAP and Hotel. All others are informational only. Perhaps your interviewer’s style was a bit more formal. All these meetings are done by CAAAN volunteers, and if there are only a few alumni volunteers in a particular area, then not everyone will get contacted. It’s just a random process. Since not everyone can or will be contacted, they have not weight on your application.

Sorry for the stupid question, but Cornell doesn’t offer Alumni Interviews, does it? I can’t make out… I’m an international applicant btw

Cornell does offer alumni interviews, not sure for internationals

If I want an interview or informational session do I request one

@justinn76 The Cornell Alumni would email you if there is an interview available

@justin76, you cannot request one. This is posted on their website.

Can someone chance me for Cornell’s A&S? Before you tell me…I know my GPA is low. My parents got divorced freshman year and it made me struggle a lot (3.1 freshman year) but I have manifested a great upward trend with a 4.0 junior year and 4.8 my first semester for senior year.

ACT: 31 C (32 M, 32 S, 30 R, 29 E, 11 Essay)
SAT: 1800 :frowning: (690 M, 580 CR, 530 W)
GPA: UW 3.6 W 4.3
Rank: 15th percentile.

Extra Curriculars:
FBLA President and founder of chapter (11,12)
Student Government Rep.
NHS
Spanish NHS
Varsity Soccer captain senior year (9-12)
Varsity Tennis captain junior and senior year (9-12)

Busser/Food Runner at another restaurant
Volunteer at Core Lab (Biotech work) at my local hospital
Volunteer at local Animal shelter

Recommendations:

  1. (10/10) From my english honors teacher who absolutely loved me. He made me write an abstract about my writing from junior year because he thought I was such a great writer.
  2. (9/10) Counselor recommendation is pretty good. My counselor loves me and even said I’m one of the best students that he’s met at my school. The only thing is, he’s not the brightest man you’ll ever meet.

Essay: (10/10) My prospective major is economics with either a double major in Spanish or just a minor. I wrote a creative story (true) about how I tutored a kid from Chile in Algebra 1 in Spanish. Through this story, I married my two interests of economics/math and Spanish, and explained how Cornell’s A&S college would allow me to study my interests in conjunction while also allowing me to study abroad to Spain. Had many English teachers read and revise it. It was one of the college essays that I wrote that I felt came straight from my heart.

What do you guys think? I know I’m on the lower spectrum for Cornell, but I’m crossing my fingers!

You might fare better if you post this on the Chances board. If you submit the 31 instead, you’ll have a better shot than you would if you had the 1800. GPA is a little on the low side, keep working hard to get it up!

@justinn76‌ did you take 2 subject tests needed for CAS?

@Renomamma‌ 590 Bio E and 690 Math 2 #-o

Well, your scores are low, but scores aren’t everything. You’ve had struggles. Best of luck

With all the questions about interviews as of late, it might be helpful to pin a thread explaining exactly what goes on and what to expect in an information session.

They interviewed many applicants last week in NJ. From what i heard, it was more like a ? - meaningless.

@jjSr2k‌ yah I dont think cornells interviews are evaluative like other schools

So do you guys know when admissions decisions come out? I think March 28th, right??

@thegrant‌ I think it’s March 31st for the ivies. However, some Cornell schools (ILR, Hotel, etc) release likely letters in the beginning of March

The Common Ivy League Regular Decision notification date is March 31st; however, in “early march” some Hotel and ILR applicants receive Regular Decision Early Notification.

It’ll be here soon! Good luck you guys
