Official Cornell Class of 2019 Regular Decision Applicants!!!!!

Ok, now I’m nervous. I talked to a few guys in my class and they were talking about how they included a lot about why they were obsessed with all things technical and engineering in their Cornell essay. The thing is, I talked more about my experience with engineering and the personal impact that engineering can have on people’s lives.I basically wrote my essay as a Cornell graduate who had already lived the four years here and my essay was emotional and slightly cheesy :stuck_out_tongue: Is Cornell COE looking for the typical tech guys or are they also looking for people who can bring diversity. My Commonapp was about my introduction to the world of painting( again emotional). My EC’s are a mixture of tech, leadership and community service. Does COE even care about aspects other than having high scores and an engineering acumen?

Short answer: Yes, they care about other things

@ivyaspirant14, don’t worry about what other people write about. As long as your true voice came through in your essays, you will be fine.

Hi guys!! My SAT is 2170(cr 620 m 800 w 750). SAT 2s are Math 2-800 and chem 770. Can my low cr hurt me a lot even if I have applied for engineering

^
Will it hurt? yes
Will it be the deciding factor? no

@jamesjunkers‌ So can the other half of the application make up for this? Also how much does Cornell value the writing section?

@sep2015 i’m in the same boat as you, CR weak. But it’s within their range so it shouldn’t have too big of an impact.

I’m fairly sure Cornell does not consider writing (don’t quote me on that though, I’m an ACT taker)

Anybody heard anything about Cornell likely letters yet?

I have an 1840 SAT, Pretty good High School Record, spectacular essays, very good recommendations and work exp. This thread is suddenly making me feel like i have virtually 0 chances. Thanks CC. And Good Luck.

@clayacraya don’t sell yourself short like that. The people that post on this forum are the ones who are obsessed with getting into the top colleges so of course they have spectacular stats. However, not everyone posts on this site, and there are many applicants like you who Cornell may take a liking to. In the end, it’s all a crapshoot! Just cross your fingers until March and if you don’t get in, Cornell wasn’t meant to be.

Could you guys chance me pls for Cornell Engineering - Computer Science

@justinn76 You sir, give me hope that i desperately need. Thank You!

@clayacraya, at the end of the day, your chances are the same as someone with a 2400. It’s literally flipping a coin, and guessing it right 4 times in a row - the odds you guess right are the same as me, or anyone else. One test score does not outweigh 4 years of hard work, and dedication to activities.

@jamesjunkers‌ Thanks for the hope mate!

When will Cornell start sending out likely letters?

Does Cornell send likely letters?

-_______- yes they do and, based on last years RD round, they probably won’t be sent out until early March. But let’s not trouble our minds with likely letter talks since only a small percent of accepted students get it.
