OFFICIAL Early Decision Applicants Thread (Columbia Class of 2014)

My Teacher Recommendation A still hasn’t even been sent in! I’ve emailed the teacher like 3 times, and he hasn’t been at school this week so I haven’t had a chance to see him. This is frustrating…

Do you guys know if columbia sends out likely letters for ED?

No, because that wouldn’t be logical since upon acceptance you have to go anyway.

“The thing I’d be most disappointed in, is the fact that I’ve told so many people that Columbia is my goal… I’ll feel like such a loser if I don’t get in.”

same. :/

Yes everything received by Columbia!!! When do they start reviewing applications?

So now…we wait.

And go berserk with other applications…

What got me fuming was that my classmate asked me the other day “So I heard that you got accepted by Columbia?”
Talk about annoying…

So how is everyone keeping his or her cool for this next month??

Focusing elsewhere, namely school, science olympiad, and other college apps. I’ve been doing OK thus far in terms of keeping my cool, but as it gets closer to mid December I’m probably going to be sweating.

Oh, and as far as I know no schools do that for ED or EA. I know friends who have gotten those letters from Ivies (Cornell), but that’s only for RD.

@yescolumbia: I’m basically just throwing myself into my ECs. I think I’m going to finally try and learn to drive, too, haha.

i’m trying to grind out 10 supp essays in a month…

I hate it, I told a few friends that I’m applying to Columbia. Now everybody in my school talks to me as if I’m going to New York next year.

@xShadow63 I know how you feel man (even though I’m from NY, lol). Everyone at my school knows I applied to Columbia ED and now everyone assumes I’m going to get in. Either it’s a great confidence booster or it’s going to crush me around December. Sigh.

Somewhat of a related question: Does anyone know what Columbia’s stance is on deferring (Stanford, for instance, states that it rarely defers students who apply EA)? The FAQ only barely of addressed this.

Keeping my cool. I wish. I’m going insane with anticipation, even though it’s still a reach for me to get in.

I think Columbia has an acceptance rate for ED, somewhere around 25%. For international students it’s even lower. I think.

Do you know the acceptance statistics for specific ethnicities?

“I know how you feel man (even though I’m from NY, lol). Everyone at my school knows I applied to Columbia ED and now everyone assumes I’m going to get in. Either it’s a great confidence booster or it’s going to crush me around December. Sigh.”

Same here. Like, I’ve always been at the top of my class, so my friends all assume I’ll have no problem getting in. I don’t think they realize exactly how small the chances really are. They don’t seem to understand that EVERYONE I’m competing against is also at the top of their class.

This next month is going to be the slowest month of my life. I wish I could just go to sleep and wake up on December 15th. Oh well, back to my other apps.

Duermomucho, EXACTLY HOW I FEEL.
