OFFICIAL Early Decision Applicants Thread (Columbia Class of 2014)

So I am also applying ED to CC. Does anybody know when we find out?

Hey Guys,
About the SAT and TOEFL scores. Theres a catch to it. Basically for SAT if you did NOT opt for Columbia as your FREE score recipient it takes TWO weeks for College Board to send the scores (When you pay the $9.5) but if you chose Columbia at the time of registering or as i understand, 2-3 days after the test date, it reaches Columbia the day you receive your scores. So typically, the scores should have been sent by mid october i you did not use the FREE score reports. it’s a pain but we can’t even use rush!
As for TOEFL, I think it is 1-2 weeks before Columbia receives the scores.
Also do not forget, it takes time for columbia to acknowledge the scores and put it on the tracking system
Hope this helped!

Applied ED to CC. Navy brat from a Mississippi art school - school president, good GPA, youngARTS finalist in poetry, but a little weak in the test score area. We will see.

Say fellow Columbia ED obsessors (at least I am).

Seeing as though I’ve read through each post and am equally as nervous as each of you, I decided to join the frenzy-filled blog.

I’m from New Orleans (the only one in this blog from Louisiana, I think) and am, like most of yall, so so eager to hear back from Columbia.

So, I know we’ll be receiving a link in our email sending us to another page to enter our Columbia code which will THEN take us to the…dundundun…verdict.

I’m just out of the loop in terms of times. So we’ll probably know the answer before the fifteenth??

Peace,
Cydney

Well that’s based on previous years. Columbia aldways seems to release results earlier than the December 15th they say. People seem to be predicting the 10th for this year. I think we do get an email soon. Can’t wait.

Lol, so I looked at all the supplements for all the other schools I was applying to and wanted to kill myself. Getting in to Columbia will save me SO much work.

yeah me too. i have so many supp essays to write!! and more SATs to send…more paying…

some of my friends have been getting likely letters from their regional counselors from other universities. i wish columbia gave them out!!!

Does Columbia even give out likely letters to EDers?

Amen to that.

Sigh. Yeah, I basically copied and pasted all of the supplement questions onto one Microsoft Word document to see what the damage would be…it looked like hell. So I decided to just plow through them (thoughtfully plowing). I still have a few to get to but I’m waiting till I hear back from Columbia.

Doing all of the other college apps kinda makes me feel less secure about my Columbia app for some reason…it’s almost as if I’m putting in so much effort into these other schools, I’m not giving my whole self to Columbia. Ha…sounds a little ridiculous.

Sigh. Again. 10 days…

Ten days of bitten-down fingernails and butterflies! Ten days and then our lives will be changed… will I spend my next four years at Columbia or somewhere else half a country away? It’s so weird to think about.

You know that poem by William Carlos William: “So much depends upon the red wheelbarrow…” It’s exactly like that. The verdict will come in some nondescript e-mail and we’ll either be Columbians or not. It seems so inconsequential, but the impact will be huge. Wow, I get jumpy just thinking about it.

Can someone post the link to the track your application page, I can’t seem to find it.

mm reading The Red Wheelbarrow is like looking at Jackson Pollock paintings - one’s never sure why the art is so intriguing…which may be why it is so intriguging.
There’s that same strange internal gut feeling I get whenever I think about Columbia. I need to know when we’ll all know. Are we all gonna put our verdicts when they come?

Hey thanks alot

is anybody else having trouble accessing the fin aid portion of the “check app” website?

Well I had no idea that this thread existed (though I assumed that there would be at least one of its kind, if not more,) so I am a bit late in the game. I too have applied ED to CC and am anxiously awaiting my decision.

A bit about me: white female from Metro-Detroit area. Interested in studying Political Science. Less than stellar scores and GPA, but Columbia is my dream and I think my application speaks to my intellect and character.

I’ve read all of the other posts and didn’t notice anyone from Michigan (nor did I see many people from the Midwest.) So, Michiganders, make yourselves known!

@ altoidsmints

I am also having difficulty with viewing the financial aid information! I have refreshed the page several times but to no avail.

Can anyone shed some light on the subject?

^ I can’t see my financial aid information either. Lame.

Lately, I’ve been getting more and more optimistic about the whole situation. Why not me?
I am becoming more anxious. =P

Keep the list going :)

My financial aid info just popped up today. It may take some time to pop up for different individuals.
I know the site doesn’t update very quickly, based on some time lag with my other info.

I spent a lot of time at Columbia this summer and have talked with admissions reps, and they really stress how the WHOLE package is very important. As trite as that sounds, people reading get tired of reading hundreds of applications every day. If there’s something that stands out at them (essays, recs, additional info), b’s and lower sat scores may not be an issue.
I know people from my school who had beautiful scores and grades and pretty good school involvement that did not get accepted to Columbia and others who were brilliant writers but didn’t have top-notch numbers who DID get in.

It’s a weird crap shoot college admissions is. I think everyone should have rajincajunfire’s attitude - “why not me?”

Zeedus lapeedus when can we start the countdown?
