OFFICIAL Early Decision Applicants Thread (Columbia Class of 2014)

Everyone come to my place, i’ll mix u guys drinks to sort ur anxiety out haha. But sorry i live in Australia.

@mary-um, roaritsrobbie, altoidsmints, and katy3028

I feel the same way that all of you do. It’s interesting how much this thread has crushed my confidence in my ability. Although I’m trying to remind myself that since Columbia is such an ultra-competitive school, no one, regardless of how good his/her stats are, is guaranteed acceptance. ;)

Regardless, most of the people here seem intelligent and well-spoken. I wish we could all just get in…

@roseknows
haha, me too…
I’ve heard that Columbia is especially picky about admissions…compared to other Ivy Leagues. My interviewer said last year he interviewed the most brilliant student. She got accepted by all the schools she applied to-except Columbia. So she had to go to Princeton instead…huh. What’s up with that?

@ katy3028

How frustrating for her! Not like Princeton is exactly chopped liver or anything, but Columbia is a special school…

People at me school keep telling me not to worry just because I’m one of the most qualified applicants there, but they don’t seem to understand that I’m not competing with our high school, I’m competing with the world.

According to the College Board, the deadline for Columbia to notify students of acceptances is December 15, unless I read the timeline incorrectly. (: I don’t want to give inaccurate information, but it was nice to see some sort of end to this mad anticipation.

^ Yes, Columbia says it will come out on the 15th, but basing it on previous years, they always release it a bit earlier. It could actually come out any time next week. They seem to like Thursdays, so I’m aiming for the 10th…

I thought that, too. Wow, it’s getting close. Next week. I can’t wait to know the answer, if only so my stomach will finally unclench…

what do you guys think they’re looking for? who “fits?” someone might be uber-intelligent but still not “fit” columbia

My interviewer said they are looking for “billboard students”: people who have shown leadership and initiative, so, if you’ve accomplished something now, just think what kind of name you could give Columbia in the future.

And smart, but really, that’s a given if you’re applying

I have been a long-time CC lurker and never a poster until now; the anxiety is mounting and I could use a support group! I’m a Bostonian going ED to Columbia to study languages. :slight_smile: Hi everyone.

Hi all!
I’m new to this thread…this is actually my first post on college confidential! I’m an Indian female from CT applying ED to SEAS. I called the admissions office and apparently they’re emailing us Monday concerning the decision date. Just as anxious as the rest of you…good luck everyone!

i’m not that nervous because i’m trying to forget about it!! it helps that NO ONE knows i applied ED except for my guidance counselor/teachers who wrote my teacher recs… i knew if i told other people it would just be ridiculously embarassing once i got rejected, but yyyyeah. btw, white girl from ct!! applying as linguistics (i think) but will probs switch to poli sci

i also applied linguistics!

coolkitkat, if u wanted to major in poli sci, why would u put down linguistics?

I think you already know the answer to that…

no i dont… hah sorry

@globalroutes, I’ve been lurking it for so long too!

I joined because I’m also ED for Columbia, and I’m just really, really curious: Did anyone else get some Pell thing in their documents section added today?

I’m from Houston, by the way.

@ ylmc123: i’m pretty sure that i’ll be going into linguistics, and i did an internship over the summer at a language lab, but if for some reason i HATE the major, i will for sure go into poli sci… so i’m correcting my previous post, i will not probably switch to poli sci, it will POSSIBLY be switched, depending on my feelings…

@arazchel: i’m not sure what you mean?
