OFFICIAL Early Decision Applicants Thread (Columbia Class of 2014)

i’ve been playing violin since age 3, and it’s a huge part of my life. but i was thinking about the kids in the inter-city who can’t afford the cost of instruments and tutors so i talked to my music school and they donated a bunch of instruments and supplies to a few middle schools in minneapolis- it was so exciting! but then when i talked to a music director at one of the schools, they said that many of the kids don’t have supportive/financially fit families for these kids to have tutors, so i created a program where kids from different high schools come into these different inter city middle schools and tutor the kids for free. ah sorry for the long spiel!

and mary-um salaam!! tu as kodoom state has tee? behbakshid sakhteh fakhtike minivisam tooeh farsi ba alphabeteh inglese! man tooeh minneapolis donya oomadam- as iran oomadee?

HAY!! thats great! i also manage non profit organisations…although more involved with international microfinancing than on very authentic level operations like that of your organisation. I must say tho… i am a failed musician haha played 4 instruments…and quit 4 instruments. =(…but i still loveee music…which annoys me cos as a person that loves music…i am not gifted like many others with the ability to playyyyy :'(

and sorry not to make an annoying political message but tomorrow is supposed to be one of the biggest demonstrations for democracy in iran and there are thousands of college student protestors predicted to be killed in the protests. for anyone interested please wear a green wristband/ribbon in solidarity- i know it might not mean a lot, but the fact that people will ask you what it’s for is enough :)

:O…when u say tomorrow… do u mean the 7th??.. in AUS its already 7th!..

walaikum a salaam! ma as new york astum. neh, as afghanistan astum. iran wah afghanistan yak zubon gap mezanan.

haha mary-um the afghani and persian dialects are so different! but i could understand a bit  and me too i’m just learning how to write!

and yescolumbia i just sent you a message about the nonprofit thing… sorry everyone for clogging up this thread!

sarah, how come you’re sure it’s thursday?

it’s not 100%, but on the previous part of the thread someone had done some collegeconfidential.com digging around, and saw that for the past few years CC had emailed the date of notification on a monday, and that thursday the results were posted. but i guess we’ll find out for sure tomorrow at 5 EST!

@skibum91 I’m from BC! Where are you from?

And about Canadians having an easier in than other internationals, I’ve heard that the Canadian education system just matches up better than other countries, so it’s easier for American schools to judge the quality of the applicant. Maybe they’re just more tentative with other countries?

tell me about it! i listen to iranian music, and have to listen so hard to understand them.

but wow, this is the week. it’s really bad, i have a chem and calc test to study for, but i’m too distracted by cc to care.

AHH i want to learn farsi!! zindagi=columbia. but not really.

How realiable is the AI calculator? Cuz I very shockingly got a 8 out of 9 on this site’s AI calculator.

I wish the Best for all of us aspiring Columbians!

sarah1- you speak 5 languages, started playing the violin at age 3, have nearly perfect scores, began a non profit organization, and are a political activist?

hahaha, sakahn. sometimes i think that too.

dilem meshkeena agah nashudum. :(

ccangirl, I think it has more to do with the fact that Canada and th4e US are closely linked culturally and politically. Treat Canada as the 51st state, if you will, and you’ll understand why so many canadians get in.

woah way over my head. you’re afghani? im pakistani but my ancestors are from afghanistan but spoke farsi like you! we must be related or something.

i love diversity in columbia. does anyone know how many languages we can take? i feel like taking 4, but i dont want to be a languages major. is that impossible?

cccangirl, i’ve lived in whistler for a while, hence the skibum, go to school in seattle. I’m gonna guess you’re from vancouver island

@Dzilyabch: The AI is an outmoded system that Ivies don’t use anymore. (Source: senior admissions officer from Brown)

sakahn i asked the same question of a counselour at columbia and she started laughing… haha she said two to three AT MOST but i was like no i want to take more!! ahh well, there’s always pimsleur

and is there any region in pakistan where farsi’s spoken?
