Official FALL 2013 Cornell Transfers Thread

@Truman147: I wasn’t quoting the text, your wording is correct.

So I’m trying to transfer out of Middlebury College (ergo, the name) as a junior. I have a 4.0 here so far and want a bigger school. I didn’t give the SAT Reasoning test as I applied ED to Midd but my SAT 2 scores are World History: 780, Literature: 790 and Math 2 : 750. I’m an international. Hoping to concentrate in Philosophy and Econ.

I’m still waiting for my TOEFL waiver to be processed. Anyone wants to guess when they’ll start looking at the apps for CAS or if they’ve already started? If they start sending out decisions in mid-april, they must’ve started right?

Also a lot of my friends here at Midd seem a little confused when I tell them I’m looking to go to Cornell…I thought Cornell would be considered the better school? Or did I miss a memo…any thoughts @SMR?

@Middtransferout Middlebury is considered to be a better school, generally speaking. Also, the fact that you manage a 4.0 at Midd makes you a very strong candidate for Cornell. You should expect a decision in April or early May at the latest.

@Middtransferout, it’s all up to your opinion. After doing your research do you find Cornell better than Middlebury? If so, then it is!

In terms of prestige, Midd is usually top 10 Liberal Arts. Cornell is Ivy League. At this level there is effectively no difference in prestige in my opinion, and it all depends on what you specifically want out of a school.

Did you request that too late or is the college official taking forever to do it?
Obviously it’s better to have everything in by the deadline, but at this point, it’s out of your control. Get on the issue and mail it priority or something. Which college are you applying to btw?

I sent another one today. I’m not sure if it is not arrived yet or not processed yet, but if I don’t get a check mark by Monday, I’m going to send one in expedite option through UPS, although it still is a bit late. I’m applying to CALS.

@Middtransferout Many kids at my current school, Williams - my main reason for transferring lays within the size of the school, so similar to yours - said the same thing about Cornell, but it’s truly all about fit. A 4.0 is super impressive (especially when juxtaposed with my measly 3.5) so I’d wish you luck, but you really don’t need it. But good luck to you (and everyone on this thread) anyway haha

@Jk1018, I think everyone can log into the to do list and meal plan.

@magicsun, they update the site at like 4 AM, so you may want to wait til Tuesday to check if it is marked off. Call them before sending a third copy as well. It’ll work out don’t get too nervous, it’s not your fault. I bet hundreds, if not thousands, of documents are processed slowly or lost.

@Middtransferout, Middlebury is considered to be right at the top of LACs along with Williams, Amherst, etc. In my opinion, it is the equivalent of an Ivy in the LAC world. If you’re looking to transfer because of the name, I for one think it’s not the best call. With a 4.0, you’re a big fish in a small pond, but you’ll be a small fish in a big ocean at Cornell. I would not transfer out if I was in your position, but those are my two cents.
On an unrelated note, “ergo” means therefore. I think the word you were looking for is “hence”. There is not a one-word equivalent in Greek that I know of.

Yesterday I finally got everything checked off on the applicant status page, but today I noticed the college transcript got unchecked. Any reason for this? I sent in my materials about 5-6 weeks ago now.

Last year S1 accepted as Dyson transfer, was able to log into housing in the morning and got email of acceptance around noon

@Ravidrim, That is REALLY odd. Call them about it on Monday. Once everything gets checked off the app usually goes for review or within a few days. I’ve never heard of something un-checking!

@elaineli, are you applying for Hotel? Surprisingly there are none so far on CC that applied to SHA.

Hey guys, haven’t posted in a while however I’ve been keeping up with the thread. Super excited and nervous at the same time.

I recently got back a LOR from my Goldman Sach’s mentor, should I still send it since its so late? ( I was going to use it for my NYU application) However I felt that it was beautifully written and might be able to help my application…

EDIT: My application has been sent to review if that makes a difference.

@stashjuice Is it normal for the student to be able to read the LOR? I thought you weren’t supposed to read it; does it have something to do with the FERPA agreement or something like that?

@Ravidrim, I think you can call either, but if they can’t help you then ask to be transferred to processing.

@stashjuice, might as well send it in, it can’t hurt.

Also, I don’t think its THAT big of a deal if you read the letter. Some professors enthusiastically like to show it, what can you do.

And we have our first prospective hotelie. Also all you new arrivals, make sure you post the college/major you’re applying to, for record keeping.
