Official FLVS AP Thread

so if anyone is currently taking an AP course with FLVS…how is it going?

Well, I have long since finished my APES course on FLVS, and Keasbey’s right - the final exam is a freaking marathon session (a boatload of M/C questions and 33 essays).

It took me the entire weekend to finish - I had to leave my computer on 24/7.

I have since signed up for AP Stat and AP Macro on FLVS :). According to Keasbey, those two should be much easier :).

I’m so slow at AP environmental science. I’m supposed to take my semester 1 exam by monday, (but I think I’ll just go behind pace again, I don’t really care). How was that exam, is it super long?

I finished the semester 1 exam two months ago, but what I remember was that it took me the entire weekend.

And I still didn’t get a A on the exam - I got a 86, and I barely scraped by with a A (90 even) for segment 1..

And you’ll like this project you have to do in APES:

http://k.minus.com/jbtgBVraC9Myd8.png

***^^^^. I’m still not over the mine a cookie lab. -.-

But for the exam, don’t you have to be by the computer the whole time, because if you don’t move from your test page for about an hour, you have to press the continue button or they’ll lock you out? How can you leave it on overnight?

Thanks for the help guys about the whole getting started. I’m slowly working my way through Comp Sci. It’s pretty interesting so far but I’m going to ramp up the pace once midterms are over because I’m behind schedule at the moment.

I think I’ll have to move taking AP Stats to the summer when I have more time :P. Anyone else have info on other FLVS courses?

AP Art History seems alright, I like the scope of it, since it does give the “down-and-dirty” facts with the thematic aspect as well. I’m not sure on pace, though, since we’re only wrapping up Greek/Roman art today.

I’m currently in AP Calculus BC. Thus far it isn’t hard because I had a great teacher for AB, but I’m worried once I get into segment 2. Is the information manageable for a good math student (got a 5 on the AB exam)? Also I think I have a good plan to study before the AP exam (re-read harder sections, do practice problems, look at answers to released FRQs) but is there anything else or a certain review book you’d recommend?

My Class
AP Human Geography

Basically I think it’s actually easy, just do alot of comparing and contrasting, though it takes some time. Like many of the things are easy, such as the population pryamid and the maps, but when my teacher wasnts me to compare 10 freaking countries on a huge number of sections, then I take some time on it. Though the course is incredibly fast.

My school is a charter school, so it gives students one whole week of in Thanksgiving, I’m preparing to go to no life mode so I can go from 23% done to 60 - 80% done.

Also thanks for the person who posted the rules of florida state on FLVS. My counselor prohibited me to take no more than 2 courses…

Yeah, I’m taking AP Human Geography now. Its probably the easiest class. Its just loogic reasoning and what not. You can party and do other classes and still finish 9 assignments in one week or so.

AP Macro was a pain. You have to draw graphs and stuff most of the times but you can easliy make a B or A.

I know, I just got into that class in one month and now I’m 20% done while I do little in the class. Wish that my counsilor didn’t cancel my AP Politics and government class :C Oh well, just regular classes for me.

So how are everyone’s FLVS classes going? I’m currently in Comp Sci and I am a couple weeks behind but the material is interesting and I plan to make up that ground over Thanksgiving break.

I’m halfway done with AP Geo and Going to finish while I’m going to get AP US Poli and French 1 :P

I have a couple of questions:

AP Calc: How does Calc work on FLVS? How can you show your work online? Like how can you show the steps you took to solve a really complex integral problem online? That would take forever to type.

AP Human Geo:

[ul]
[]How many total assignments are there? You can find out by going to the gradebook and scrolling all the way down.
[]How hard are the quizzes and tests?
[]Are quizzes and tests timed?
[]Can you reset/retake quizzes/tests?
[/ul]

@IceCube
I wondered that about AP Calc myself. Also for anyone who has taken AP Art History how was the class structured? Was it like read a section and then take a quiz and a test after finishing a chapter? And how difficult was it?

I realize people posted earlier about AP Art History but there wasn’t much elaboration.

Sorry I haven’t been on here in a long while. Looks like a lot of the questions have been answered. However, I will look back and try to answer as many as possible.

As for AP Calc, you can either do your work in a notebook and scan it, or use the programs MathType and Graphmatica. MathType helps you to type any math symbol you need. Graphmatica (as the name suggests) helps you to graph functions such as parametric functions.

IceCube:
Human Geo
1.) Theres a hundred an something assignments: Quizes, tests, HW… (Homework is weighted a ton and it’s easy but long!)
2.) The quizes and the test are probably IF you actually study the module at least 30 minutes; the essays are the easiest and I believe there is no time since I never got times.
3.) You can’t retake quizes and test, BUT you can retake HW as long as you get a 100% on it.

Also: The HW makes up nearly all of it, also that their are these things that are called monthly disccussions that in every module you talk to the teacher (I consider it free 300 points, but in the discussion you have to turn in these Geo Journals)

Literally speaking, Human Geo is Easy but not too easy to say I’m going to not study for months; some of the things are common sense, but the understanding of the maps was a struggle for me…

It’s been one month now and I’m 50% done with it…

Hey, when you get your classes done in FLVS, how is it going to be place in your GPA; by your school year?

How about AP Psych? Has anyone taken it? How many assignments are there and what do they usually consist of?
