**Official Georgetown University Transfer Thread 2009**

I am not envious of you guys applying to SFS. I am really hoping being a male and applying to NHS will help me.

Yeah, I agree with Craintrain, SFS seems to be the most competitive school to get into.
And I am older, 28…and I feel every bit of it too lol
That is a good question about FA, because I would do the same. Thing is it would probably be cheaper to stay on campus than to stay off campus. Once you include transportation costs, utilities, and food…might not be worth it

I do think there is an advantage to being older though. I think there is less importance put on our high school transcripts and I didnt have to submit my test scores at all. Plus I add diversity and and an accomplished resume to the consideration process which improves my application as a whole because they see experience as being able to add something valuable. Older students get in less trouble and have a much high graduation rate/gpa because they are just trying to finish and get out.

BIG NEWS:I called the admissions office today because they called me about transcripts. DECISIONS ARE GOING OUT MAY 1ST!!! I just wanted to let you guys know. Thats only 15 days from now and I already feel like I’m going to throw up!

Thanks for the tip. That means they are sending it out on the 1st and we should be receiving it on the 3rd or 4th huh?

thanks for the knot in my stomach as well…

I honestly think some of them will go out earlier…wishful thinking I guess haha. The 3rds a sunday so it will prob be the 4th or fifth. This will be the death of me and wold you look at that just in time for finals.

Can someone call to verify May 1st. The application was due March 1st so it makes sense. I just don’t want this to go on forever. ahhh waiting…

ha thats true. well i did some creative scheduling this semester so i should be done with my exams by then. I took acc 1 and econ 1 the first 8 weeks and then acc 2 and econ 2 the 2nd 8 weeks. I am still full time, but only 2 classes at a time. They are also online so it made my life much easier

So I’ve applied to the School of Foreign Service, kept up my 3.9 gpa (and in honors program), lived and taught English around China, Nepal, and Korea for the past few years, wrote decent essays (I have a compelling reason for studying there), I keep myself busy with fencing, my innovative brainwave program, film club, etc; had a great Georgetown interview with an old friend. Only thing wrong, is my high school grades sucked due to personal issues (like a serious concussion, meeting birth family, mom’s cancer, etc…). How do you think they’ll respond to all this?

yay, that’s wonderful! It’s good to be a bit older I guess.

Thats great to hear/read. My HS grades were ok, not because i was a bad student, but it was easy and i wasnt interested. I got all A’s my sr year in a private school just because i needed to get into a college. College has been a different story and my grades prove this

there seems to be a lot of older transfers this year or maybe it’s just because we’re the only ones posting on CC. I just don’t think I can wait too much longer!

may 1st
wowza
that’s good to hear. i have an offer from UNC and they want a response by 5/11, so that gives me some time to make a decision

hey guys, i have my interview on 4/20…what kind of questions should i prepare for? how formal is it? (im assuming i should wear khakis and a button down and tie would be over the top) anything else i should prepare for?

Well, if your interview is on 4/20 you better come prepared…

I had mine on Friday the 13th…I’m hoping that whole luck thing that goes along with is the polar opposite

hey, about the interview, I’d say just dress for the weather. Seriously. The interviewer is an alumni, and isn’t really being paid to do this… I dressed in shorts and sandals. For me, the person who interviewed me turned out to be an old friend from grade 1, so it went well, and both of us didn’t really dress up at all. They really just want to know what you’re doing now, and why you want to go to Georgetown, that’s it. Just have fun, because they’re likely to be non confronting and not too formal. But make sure you have a compelling reason to transfer.

It depends on where your meeting him. My interviewer is an attorney in town, and I wore a suit and tie because we met in his office during business hours. Khakis and a button up shirt is probably a good idea and a safe bet. I wouldn’t risk sandals and shorts because you never know who your gonna get.
Jedi, did it feel odd interviewing with someone your age? My interviewer and I graduated high school the same year. I quickly got out of interviewer mode and into comraderie mode and it worked(i think)

It wasn’t weird, even though I’m 1 year older than the interviewer. We didn’t realize who we each were until an hour into it, and then we just digressed into what we had both been doing for the last 15 years. But yeah, don’t risk it by wearing sandals… I just tend to disregard the norm for interviews (that is, the whole tie/formal look) and just be myself.

It’s so cool that you guys knew your interviewers. You won’t have to worry about a good report then. Sandals, I would say isn’t a good idea. You’re trying to show your serious, regardless of how well you know your interviewer
