@Gtown111. Could you please give stats?

It gives me great pleasure to inform you that the Committee on Admissions has voted to accept your application for transfer admission to Georgetown University. I am happy to offer you a place in the class beginning in the fall of 2011.

SO EXCITED!!! Just got in as a Government major to the college!! The email came at 5:15 pm (central time) today.

I posted stats earlier in this thread but if you want more info I can post specifics!

I received my email of acceptance at 5:15 PM CST today to the School of Foreign Service. I am beyond excited! Good luck to everyone still waiting on their decisions!

Congrats everyone!! It’s great to hear that acceptances for the SFS are starting. This is definitely very early, but there’s no problem w/ that! @littleredparka, if you don’t mind, could you please post stats? I applied to the SFS as well, so I want something to compare to. I hope you understand.

@HopesToBeAHoya: Just to let you know, I’ve appreciated this thread, and your posts on it, a lot these past months. Earlier this year I wasn’t sure my school was the right one for me, so looking forward to Georgetown by reading this thread was a nice escape. It’s definitely comforting to see people going through similar situations, and learning new information about the application process has been helpful and exciting. I haven’t made my decision yet- I’m still waiting on one other school, and I’m apprehensive to leave my school now and the friends I have made at it- but I’m definitely going to visit Georgetown again after I get home for the summer. I’ll message you my stats, and anyone else who wants them is welcome to message me too.

a few people asked me to post my background, so I hope this helps. I had originally wanted to do law school so I took the free ride offered by my current school to help keep myself out of debt. Now that I want to do finance and not law school, I wanted to transfer to a well-known b-school.

Current School - WCSU (state school in CT) - I was also in Honors program

GPA - 3.9

Essays - I though they were pretty solid, for the general one I talked about my changing career goals and how I felt like my current school would hold me back. For the MSB essay, I talked about my growing interest in finance through internships, talking with investment bankers, etc. I talked alot about business-related stuff in all of my essays, after I put my apps in I was worried that I would come across as one-sided to admissions offices.

Not sure how relevant my HS work was since I’ve been out for three years at this point. I did well but not stellar, SAT was 1900, ACT was 30, GPA of around 94/100.

Extracurricular

I’ve worked at a five-star hotel year-round since I was 16 (4+ years at this point)

I helped re-establish the finance club at my school and am the current VP

I did a six-month accounting internship that ended last month

I’ve trained in Brazilian jiu jitsu and am a competitive cyclist (if I end up going I would likely be joining the cycling team, pretty excited about that actually haha)

I’m stilling waiting to hear from NYU which is my top choice. If I get in (and get a decent financial aid package) I might be giving up my spot haha.

Do you guys think they’re done sending out acceptances? I’m getting nervous… have any other government majors heard yet besides the one thats already posted??

@slynch i doubt it - not only have we only heard about a few acceptances, it has only been two days. for that matter, two days well in advance of the advertised june 1st notification date. while it’s not uncommon for students to be hearing at this point there were still students being notified well into may in previous years. there’s no reason to expect a rejection until, god forbid, you’re holding the rejection letter in your hands.

@ashtona- thanks for the words of comfort, this process is driving me CRAZY! lol but I remain hopeful! Good luck to all!! :)

hey congrats. how did you find out? via postal mail or email? how big was the envelope? do you know of anyone who applied to the georgetown college get in? maybe just all the other schools within gtown such as SFS and buisness find out before the college??

@MAella10

I just received an email with 4-5 page letter talking about how to pay the deposit (which is due by 6/15). It also said that a transfer credit evaluation and info about financial aid should come within the next few weeks.

I really really really really want an acceptance email now.

ohh okay. I guess they are slowly sending out the acceptances. maybe they will email more by tomorrow? do you know of anyone who has recieved a rejection via email?

Haha, it’s incredible how there’s a burst of never ending questions and mixed feelings when someone posts their acceptance. Anyone feel the same way?

@ Hopes: Hey bro (girl? sorry I haven’t kept up), you seem pretty legit. A great resource and absolutely someone who would do well at Georgetown. I would be bummed if you weren’t accepted (which I doubt).

@ Everyone: let’s not stigmatize ‘stopbsing’. The thoughts and feelings against those we believe have criticized us, are reactionary. We forfeit our right to be owners of choice. Choose forgiveness. Choose the assumption that stopbsing is just as stressed as any of us.

@ stopbsing: I’m sure you didn’t intend on coming off as brash as you did. In reality, I’m sure you’re probably a pleasant person. As your on this thread I’m assuming that you applied as a transfer. Best of luck in your admission!

on another note, maybe those who sent in their applications first received notifications first?

@goingforanobel,
Good points and well put. In terms of notifications, I don’t believe they go by the time they received their notifications, but it’s a good thought.

@Maella10,
Rejections only come via snail-mail = /

I sent my application in last minute so its not done like that.

Accepted as a Government major - could not possibly be happier!
:D

@starryeyed- what time did you get your email at? and would you mind posting stats? thanks.

Sure - I got my email around 6pm EST yesterday (May 3rd).
