for those of you that still haven’t heard, I emailed one of the admissions officers last night and she told me that the committees would still be meeting for the next several weeks and still have most of their decisions to make!

Oh, wow. So many posts!

@newtransfer259. Thank you for your comment.

@jayfromla. That made my laugh so hard!

@littleredparka. I’m very happy to hear that I was able to help! Congrats on your acceptance, and maybe (hopefully!) I’ll see you at the SFS this fall.

@Buegie. Wow, your stats are great. You definitely deserve it! I heard NYU isn’t really great with financial aid, but I hope everything works out for you. Please let us know what your decision is.

@goingforanobel. I really appreciated your comment, and I’m very pleased that I’ve been a helpful resource during this stressful period. Btw, I’m a dude. Lol.

@starryeyed615. Great stats and congrats!

Okay, so some of you may have realized that there is a trend for the applicants who are getting accepted. Generally speaking, I believe the strongest applicants are released first. I remember in a previous year’s thread, someone who was once a student and worked for the admissions office said that this is how it works. Now, this is GENERALLY SPEAKING! So it doesn’t mean that you will be rejected. Don’t give up hope, there’s still a lot of time.

Now, as to why applicants are released in order of strength, I believe there is a reason. One of my friends who goes to Georgetown told me that one of her professors explained how admissions work. You are first ranked on a scale of 5.0. If you are given a number of 4.5+, you are accepted. If you are given a 3.0-4.5, you go through another committee(s) that further analyzes your application. If you are below 3.0, you are rejected. Therefore, it makes sense that a lot of strong applicants have heard, the adcom was able to decide fairly easily, whereas for other people, committees are still going through applications.

Thanks…I’ve heard that NYU is terrible with aid as well, which will definitely make a difference. Georgetown is on the same level as far as academics IMO, maybe slightly better but I would really like to be in the city because it’s the financial hub, plus getting back and forth from home would be a breeze. We’ll see though…

As for your other post, I would love to think it works that way and it does make sense, but I imagine this review process is much more random and disorganized than we’d like to think haha

@HopesToBeAHoya
I REALLY hope that you get into Georgetown. You seem like you want to go there so badly. Your like me when it comes to UPenn. lol

@Hopes,
Are you applying as a sophmore or junior transfer? I’m sure you have said it in previous posts but I forgot. Also, that does seem to be the pattern of stronger applicants getting in first. I have a bad feeling about Georgetown for me, I’m hoping everyone else gets in.

did anyone hear back today??

ok can one of you guys mind posting your “admissions email” on here because I just don’t believe this. Georgetown is not rolling admissions. I don’t think they would make some decisions and let those ppl know and then make some new decisions and let those people know.

with the snail mail rejections… I do know for a fact that American U is like that.

@hopestobeahoya

thanks for telling us about what your professor said. that sounds reasurring.

@ everyone else on this thread
as to those who rubbed it in being admitted already, you guys are jerks especially the ones who are waiting to hear from other schools that are their number ones over georgetown.
I know a couple of people who just barely had their interview last weekend and they submitted their application way before the deadline. They are the ones whose number 1 is georgetown. if you DONT want to go there then don’t apply. you are taking the spot of someone who really wants to go there

@hopestobeahoya
your friend’s professor I meant to write

@Buegie. I understand the whole “getting back and forth from home would be a breeze.” Although I would never really say that I’m homesick, if I got into Georgetown, I would be able to go home and eat my mom’s food every once in a while.

@thabsborough. Thanks so much! I really hope I do too. Georgetown is such an amazing school; I know I would do so well there. It’s just a matter of time for the decision, so at least that’s a relief! Good look w/ Penn. If I don’t get into Georgetown, I was considering applying to Penn next year.

@newtransfer259. I’m UNFORTUNATELY a sophomore transfer, so I only have one semester’s worth of grades. I hope they focus on that more than high school… In all honesty, it’s such a pain that no matter what I do, high school seems to follow me everywhere. I started off such a bad note, but that was SO long ago, so I hope they look at the progression as a good indication of what I can actually do. Also, don’t worry. I remember last year, people STARTED posting acceptances on May 6th (I believe…), so you still have a few weeks left. I emailed an admissions officer recently, and she said that they are still going through applications.

@MAella10. Lol, you sound really stressed out! Calm down (I know that’s hypocritical, lol). I think–or at least I hope–that everyone who is posting his/her acceptance is trying to help people get a better idea of when decisions come out. What school are you applying to, MAella10?

Just got an early read from Georgetown and they said it was “unlikely that we would be able to accept you for admission”
Stats: GPA: 3.9 after 2 years; finance club; good recs; good interview; but kind of lacking on extra-cirricular activities (only played basketball for 2 years in high school but I did have 3 1/2 years of work experience) Oh well… I’m off to American’s Honors Program!

@MAella10: First of all, I already posted the first part of the acceptance e-mail that they sent me earlier in this thread. I can open up my e-mail if you’re that skeptical and post the rest of it if you want. The fact is that many of us have already received letters, and in past years they have apparently sent them on a sort of “rolling” basis as well.

Also, those of us who were accepted are not in any way trying to “rub it in” or anything, just to keep others informed about the current situation of transfer admissions, who’s getting in, etc. And the reason that we apply to Georgetown and other schools that aren’t necessarily our first choice is in case we don’t get IN to our first choice. How would you like to be left with no other options? People apply to more than one school so that there will be options. I find it very unlikely that I will get into my first choice (Penn) and so there’s a great chance that I WILL go to Georgetown (or stay at Northwestern if I don’t get enough aid). We don’t just apply to be obnoxious and take people’s places.

I hope that everyone on this thread receives acceptance letters VERY soon!!!

@cwh2014- what major did you apply to?

@cwh2014
hmm… maintaining a 3.9 is impressive. Do you go to a LAC? If so, do you mind saying vaguely where it falls in the rankings?
Thank you
Congrats on American btw!

@cwh2014

was that an email? seems weird to get something so ambiguous

@MAella10

The point isn’t to rub it in, in fact I think I’ve said multiple times that getting in early could be the luck of the draw. I wanted to let people know that decisions are starting to come out because waiting around not knowing anything sucks. I imagine they send these things out in batches so people can hopefully expect a decision in the coming weeks.

And as for posting the whole letter, I’m not doing that, there might be some sort of confidentiality thing I’m not aware of. I’m probably being paranoid but I’m not going to take the chance. I will give you this screenshot though…

http://i275.■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■/albums/jj292/Eurofest2008/Gtown-Screenshot.jpg

Lol everyone seems to be on high tension at this point. For those of you who are frustrated, if you can please put them in a constuctive way instead of accusing others and pointing fingers. Those of you who were accepted, that is awesome, and many of us are happy for you. Keep posting stats as most people understand that you are in NO way rubbing it in, rather giving us something to compare our grades too.
@Buegie,
Thanks for the photo, and don’t worry about writing the entire acceptance letter haha

@Hopes,
I’m really pulling for you to get in for this fall semester as you seem like you really want Georgetown. If it doesn’t work out this semester, you’ll get in next fall semester.

On a side note, I’m wondering if Georgetown is sending out this acceptences in waves (many people 1 or 2 times a week) or in a daily manner

I know at least with the school I currently attend (USC, California not Carolina) they sent out acceptances in two batches and then rejections. The first group was the highly qualified candidates who were getting the bigger scholarship (1/4-full tuition) and then the rest of the acceptances. The rejections came at the end of the notification deadline.

Okay so I emailed the Office of Undergrad Admissions and asked them when transfer decisions would be coming out for everyone if some people are already receiving them. This was their reply:

"All transfer applicants will receive admissions notification by June
1st. A few students have been notified of their decision already but the
majority will not receive a response until June 1st.

Sincerely,
The Admissions Staff
Office of Undergraduate Admissions
Georgetown University"

Hope this kind of helps!

^ eh, I don’t buy it.
