Official Georgetown University Transfer Thread 2011

@wookiekie

I just called admissions they said the following:

  1. Q: Are committees for SFS still meeting or are all the decisions made?
    A: Some committees are still in session so all applicant decisions haven’t been made. Some committees sent out their decisions while others haven’t. You should hear your decision by June 1st.

Q: I heard that rejection letters were being mailed tomorrow, is that correct?
A: No, some have already been sent out. They’re sending things in batches based on how committees get out, so its not all at once.

Q: I also heard that rejections were being sent my snail mail and acceptances/waitlists were being sent by email, is that correct?
A: No, you should get both. I’m not 100% positive though.

I hope that helps. I guess that means we either have the tiniest bit of hope let, or that they’re just saying that.

@transfertrials
Thanks a lot; your reply is really helpful and gives me some hope!
hmmm I wish we all can get great news

thanks again…

You guys think we still have a chance? I’ve pretty much given up hope. I’ve just been thinking “atleast it’ll be over in 7 days”.

who knows??? only the Gtown committee knows.
nobody really dont know what is going on. Just have hope; thats the only way
cheers

@beautifulcold - Yes, I do live in the states. I just got another letter from georgetown with instructions on how to commit dated May 16th. I emailed the admisisons office and they said that “acceptance letters are sent by mail,” not e-mail. I have a feeling they’re sending out letters on more of a rolling basis, but I’m not 100% sure about that. Hope this helps!

I applied to the McD school of business and still havn’t heard anything. Based on earlier comments, I’m hoping to hear something this week. I’ll let you know if I hear anything-not sure how many of you are waiting on business school decisions. But I’m definitely hopeful they havn’t sent out all their acceptances yet.

Haha, any prospective transfer for fall 2012, that may look to this thread for advice, is probably going to leave more confused. The process this whole year has been pretty wack.

haha @goingforanobel you’re right…everyone has different information…i think they sent my letters out of order and we weren’t even supposed to hear until june 1st!

OMG I AM SO CONFUSED HELP
did they mail out decisions already?!

hey people,
does anyone get some fresh news??

I was accepted to the college as a government major back on Friday, May 13th (as I mentioned in an earlier post). I waited 10 days before calling the financial aid office to ask about my financial aid package. The woman who answered the phone looked up my file and made it seem as though there was something wrong with my financial aid application, as if I hadn’t even applied for financial aid. She took down my information and said a counselor would call me soon.

When the counselor didn’t call after three hours, I left him a voicemail, and he finally returned my call today. Everything was sorted out.

Georgetown is - as others have said here - VERY generous. (After all, they do meet 100% of need.)

They are covering my entire tuition with grant money and helping me pay for room & board with work study and two federal subsidized loans. Keep in mind that my EFC is below $10,000.

I’m very excited and happy to say that I will be transferring to Georgetown this fall :)

@RealTransfersMIA:

Ahh that is so good to hear! I received my acceptance (also as a gov major!) on May 3rd and I still haven’t gotten financial aid info, and I’m calling tomorrow so I hope they give me my info as well! My decision is HEAVILY dependent upon financial aid so it’s super important that I find out and that it be good…

Any news??

Nothing yet :(

Its really starting to feel hopeless…

Hey folks!
dont worry and dont have to feel hopeless.
they told me that they will sent out decision letters later of this week, so may be today or tomorrow or weekend.
have some hope! Im still waiting for the Gtown decision. I hate waiting but I have to take care it. cheers!

@wookiekie, do you know if they are going to mail only the rejections? I’ve been following this thread for a while and it seems like they emailed some students about acceptance.
Yeah, the waiting process is kinda hard, especially during the finals week. Sometimes I check my email so many times that I keep refreshing every 20minutes hoping that I receive an email from Gtown.

Imo, there will be acceptances, rejections, and waitlists. People who were accepted earliest may have denied their admission causing more spaces to open up. Who knows?

We’ve waited this far, i dont think a day will kill us. The nervous anticipation just draws things out.

Sorry for not writing in so long (in case anyone noticed, lol)! I was busy writing the waitlist letter. Goingforanobel, I hope people have already declined their offer of admission, maybe then there will be a chance for waitlisters! ahahaha

Well at most we have 6 days left to wait and they usually send out emails around 10:30 (from what I’ve read on this thread) so its really 5 days. I think at this point I’m 99.9% positive I got rejected, I just need the letter to get rid of the .1%.
