Official Georgetown University Transfer Thread 2011

@Godric. Wow, that’s a really late interview.

@L2Hang. Ahahah that picture is hilarious, but its message is very true.

@shnokabel. I would be very surprised if you did not get in, based on the info you provided.

@littleredparka. If I got accepted, I would most likely do summer classes at Georgetown. But I can do that easily because I live about 20 minutes from the campus.

@HopesToBeAHoya: why do you say we should worry if we dont hear by may 10th? Last year’s application deadline was different than this years, they may be on a different time schedule

Just throwing it out there, a Georgetown admissions rep will be in my area on May 10th as part of Exploring College Options (alongside Harvard, Penn, Stanford, and Duke). I would like to know what questions should be asked and how I should express my interest in attending Georgetown. Good luck to everybody in the admissions process.

tangent

I would have loved to have been in DC last night

@goingforanobel me too! That had to have been amazing.

Does anyone know if any social science majors have been notified (psychology preferably)?

I have a bad feeling, but I am trying to remain somewhat positive.

Hello all,

I’ve been reading this thread, and a number of others, and I have a particular dilemma in regards to Georgetown transfer admissions with which I would appreciate some help.

Firstly, I’m a non-traditional student. I earned a GED (Reading: 800, Writing: 800, Math: 660, Science: 720, Social Studies: 800) and began attending a regionally ranked local accredited college fall of last year, with the hopes of transferring.

My GPA is 3.9, composite SAT is 1280/1980 (CR 730, Math 550-- I’ve never been good at math), and I applied to Georgetown College for Linguistics. I have quite a few extracurricular, three excellent recommendations, and, not to come off as over-confident, but my essays were quite good, and I also took the initiative to send the university some other writing samples that I felt were particularly indicative of my abilities.

However, here’s the problem:

I also applied to a number of other schools, and I have a deposit down at the University of Arizona (where I would be doing a double major in Near Eastern Studies and Linguistics, in the university’s Honors College), and I am also registered for orientation in early June.

I intend to eventually earn a PhD in Linguistics, so naturally, Georgetown would probably be the more prudent choice given The College’s reputation for linguistics. I’m still in the process of deciding which school to attend (should I be admitted to Georgetown)-- but when can I expect a decision?

I’ve seen a great deal of conflicting information across the internet on when I ought to be receiving a decision. Optimally, I’d like a decision as soon as possible so I can cancel my arrangements at the U of A if need be.

Thanks

wouldn’t we all

@CGCGCG26. Agreed.

@CreativeDeficit. Call the admissions committee, tell them which school you applied to and what major (College: Linguistics), and ask them who is in charge of that committee. Get that person’s email or look it up on Georgetown’s website. Email him/her, tell him/her your situation, and ask if you can receive an early read. Best of luck.

@Beautifulcold. The only people I know who were accepted are the two ones who posted on college confidential. Also, it is too early to freak out (I know this may seem hypocritical, lol), so relax.

@goingforanobel. A friend of mine who goes to Georgetown was at the White House at 1 am. Ahaha I wish I was there w/ her.

@Bubby90nh. You could ask for the acceptance rates for transfer students (even though you already know them since I posted them in this thread, lol)? What do they look for in transfer students? How much emphasis is put on high school? The general stuff, essentially.

@agentsoapbox. I’ve read the last years’ threads many times, and I was just quoting what someone had said in some previous year. A lot of people will find out in the next two weeks, I would think. Generally speaking, as May passes on, if you have not heard anything, the chances of you getting rejected increase. If you look at the 2010 thread, for example, you will see that most of the posts after May 20th or so are primarily people saying that they got rejected. As for the “different schedule,” two people have already heard–one college and one MSB applicant. Although I’m a little surprised that someone from the MSB has heard, the college applicant receiving her decision was not surprising at all. So I wonder how much of a different schedule they can be on?

I just got an acceptance email from Georgetown MSB for accounting.

Stats:

4.0 college GPA
1460/1600 SAT
Applied as a junior transfer.

@transfer2010–what time did the email come

^About 3:30 pm.

Just to lighten the mood, I’ve been posting this to places I applied to.

It’s basically a video of how I’m going to react if I get accepted.

[YouTube - Overexcited Kid](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

@transfers2010. Congrats! Looks like we have two MSBs and one College admits.

@goingforanobel. AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Too, too funny. That is EXACTLY what I’m going to do if I get into Georgetown.

Oh my gosh; this is so stressful :frowning:
how are we supposed to concentrate on finals!

has anyone that applied as a government major heard back yet??

@slynch26
I’m a government major and I haven’t heard anything back since I sent my application.

So since people are getting acceptance letters now, does that mean June 1st is when rejections are sent out? Waiting really sucks. Georgetown needs to give an EXACT date that sends everyone either an acceptance or rejection letter.

If gtown doesn’t work out, what’s everyone’s plan b school? mines UVA

Any biology majors?

Hoping that SFS hears back soon

Based on previous years SFS is usually last(ish) :/

My friend, an International Health major at the School of Nursing and Health Studies, got her acceptance today!
