Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2018 applicants thread

Finally submitted, it feels good to get that off my chest. How are you guys submitting your supplemental stuff? Originally their website said slideroom would be available “mid-October” but now I’m thinking I’m gonna overnight my papers.

NeutralityACT:

I am submitting a supplement as well, in fine arts. I called today and asked about Slideroom, they said it will be set up within the next week to week and a half… so I guess I’m waiting until then, because electronic art submission is so much easier. It may be different for you though.

It’s academic papers, I guess I’m gonna wait a few days and if slideroom isn’t up I will mail it.

anyone waiting for SAT scores this thursday? or interviews? mine’s this sunday D:

and (this may come off as a little pretentious and i really don’t want it to but it’s an honest question and i may just be over-concerned but idk), i worked with 2 organizations in high school (1 of which i founded). one raised $15,000, the other, $60,000. i put loads of info about the organizations, but i just didn’t say the exact amount of money collected, but i already turned in my common app. i’m obviously not gonna call the school and tell them, but do you think there’s a really bad impact from that?

^make sure you mention it in the interview. When do they contact you about the interview?

crystalll, NeutralityACTo36, I called them yesterday about supplementary materials, and they told me that if I have all my materials ready to send by mail, it’s better to do so rather then wait until the online submission is finally available.

@neutrality i just got a call from an interviewer who happens to live in my city/small town. we’re meeting at a starbucks lol yay

@katherynp send them by mail! that’s what i did a week ago with my art (idk what you’re exactly submitting, but if it’s for the visual arts, put it on a CD)

So I basically need advice from you genius people. I have taken both the ACT and the SAT. I took the ACT 3 times and my latest and highest score is a 35 (out of 36). I took the SAT once (I live in Oklahoma and no one cares about the SAT here) and I got a 2230. Both scores are respectively in their 99th percentiles. Now, I’ve already sent my ACT to Harvard but I’m wondering if I should also send my SAT. What do you guys think? I’m a national merit semi-finalist and colleges know that I’m inevitably going to take the SAT. So if I don’t send it, would it look like I have something to hide? Thanks for reading this. I really appreciate it. Any suggestions or comments are welcome.

Sultan: you’re overthinking this. A missing SAT won’t make your file any worse. Congrats on the 35

I have a question: if I opted to send Harvard one of my free score reports when I registered for the ACT, do I have to resend it? That may sound stupid but I wanna be sure and don’t wanna shell out yet another 12 dollars on college application. So I’m asking if they have my score report from like April just on file?

Also, if I “self-reported” an SAT score on my common app, do I have to send that to colleges? Do they think it’s dishonest if I self-reported it but didn’t send them the official score report from the testing agency? Again, I have no interest in sending my SAT score anywhere so it’d just be a waste of money.

Thanks for any answers.

@efeens i have the same question as you. i self reported both my ACT scores and SAT scores but i don’t want to officially submit my ACT (it’s a 33). i hope they’ll just disregard it

does anyone know if/how harvard recalculates GPAs? i go to a private school and my UW GPA is 3.99 (1 A- soph year in AP world), but if i were in the area public schools they don’t have minuses and pluses, so it would be a 4.0

^Do you really think .01 of GPA is going to get you in/out?

Hopefully diddly’s post #212 isn’t an example of his/her critical thinking and analysis skills.

Diddly: We understand the nerves/uncertainty of applying to a place like H for SCEA but don’t let reason and common sense leave the bldg. You’re fine.

There will be many people accepted with less than your GPA and many rejected with GPAs better than yours. Anyone who hits the SUBMIT button immediately enters a losing situation. If you can hold to that, then you’ll be fine.

My daughter submitted her app and supplement on 10/5. In Common App, it shows that the School report was downloaded on 10/13 while the teacher evaluation was downloaded on 10/16.

However, the Harvard portal shows having the teacher recommendation and not the secondary school report even though CA shows that being downloaded few days earlier.

Does anyone see the secondary school report shown as complete in Harvard portal?

reposting my questions because I fear they’ll get buried:

I’d say to relax and trust in the system that sees 100s of thousands of exam scores delivered every year.

If by some freakish quirk your file is bereft of any test scores, they will contact you to order new ones. Simple, no?

Whoa, I didn’t realize this, we need to get in our initial financial aid application by November 1st as well?

hahaha i don’t have the best street smarts!! and yeah i’m just nervous. some guy from a private school in my area just got in though and i DONT KNOW HOW AND I NEED TO KNOW

@neutrality yup, the CSS profile thing or whatever that is. but that’s just a rough date. you can only do the CSS once you get the info from your fee waiver (if you did one). just do the form as soon as harvard provides the information; i called them and they said they’re very flexible with that

jasmineRose: Yeah, it says Harvard didn’t get my secondary school report, either…
