Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2018 applicants thread

@leather: each of the Ivies are bound by specific notification dates. Your friend’s story may hold true but doubtful for any of the eight ivies.

Finally finished reading all these pages.

Jesus, you guys sure write a lot in such a short amount of time!

Although it’s officially December, so I assume the volume of posts will increase exponentially as we get closer and closer to Friday the 13th.

We can still send in additional info? I had some information I wanted to share with them but I was frustrated since the SCEA deadline has long since passed.

Im just waiting for the inevitable deferral

According to Harvard Admissions, Decisions will be released by email Friday December 13th at around 5PM. They confirmed the date and time with me when I called today.

^ I think I’m going to be sick…

How far along do you guys think they are with decisions? Is it worth sending them additional information about something kind of important that I forgot to mention?

^Call and ask if they’ve evaluated your app yet maybe? And it depends on how important it is, if it will make your application then definitely call, but if it’s just a minor award or something then it might not be worth it

someone give me an excuse so i can call harvard and see if they’ve evaluated me yet!!! hahahaha

Do you think it’s valid to call and say I was re elected to a leadership position?

That might not be a deal-breaker but any excuse to call right? YOLO.

@neutrality: that seems like straw grasping to me… If you’re deferred, send a big update. Otherwise, it just smacks of desperation

Speaking of deferral, if we get deferred, what is the usual protocol? T26E4, you mention “send a big update.” What exactly does this entail? I mean, let’s say my application is as complete as it will be when it is re-evaluated in mid-March. Should I still send something to Harvard to let them know I’m really interested for regular? What kind of stuff would I put in the update? I’m not up for re-election/any awards between now and March, and my extracurriculars and whatnot are all set.

I’m really excited and a little confused!
Has anyone ever heard of this happening?
My interviewer contacted me and asked if I would send her video of my dancing so she could forward it to admissions!
We had a great interview that lasted almost 2 hours.
I knew she liked me, but I’ve never heard of an interviewer doing this sort of thing.

@ckfy: Sending updates seems to be rather normal for deferred students. I’m only speaking from seeing what others have done in the past. They bundle together any significant awards/achievements/better test scores, etc. and send something to admissions (not a new essay, however).

@gozero: your interviewer might be just a little over excited. Check out Harvard’s instructions about artistic supplements. If your work meets that criteria of excellence, go ahead and send it in according to the stated protocols. To be frank, your interviewer isn’t a judge of the quality of your work – she’s trying to be your advocate but if a video submission is in order (and this is your decision), you should send it (and send her a copy), not her. Good luck.

I applied early and I went to test the email response system today by sending an email to Harvard with TEST in the subject line, but I received no response. Has anyone else tried this, and if so, how long after your email did you receive a response?

^^ Maybe 5 minutes max.

Wow. Nothing like a quick read through here to make me feel vastly under qualified to be applying haha. I noticed a lot of people talking about athletes. Does being recruited really help your application that much?

So I just realized that I have a basketball game the day we get decisions, I have a basketball game. I’m going to be so nervous when 5 PM rolls around I won’t be able to focus. I’ll probably throw up from nerves. :(

@collegeluva do you have to go to the game when you get the decision? maybe let your coach know that you’re getting the decision then, and if you mention it’s for harvard, it would be insane of him to not let you miss that game for that ONE day
