Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2018 applicants thread

Accepted. I like this feel.

@Thebeatlestoday: You were one of those applicants I wanted to put a wager on! Congrats! I will see you next year

Congratulations to Everyone that was accepted and deferred.

You all should be proud of what you have accomplished!!

Alas, one of my credentials must have been lost amid all of the papers/mail/etc because my application was not reviewed due to being incomplete, while having sent in everything on time.

@SouthernHope: Thank you so much!!!

Congratulations to everyone who got in. My S was deferred but wishes nothing but the best to all of you accepted. He scored a 35 on the ACT, 2300+ SAT, 4.0/4.0, took every AP available at school, 2 summers in a prestigious university lab alongside PhD students (researcher not a lab assistant). Super interview with an alumnus who keeps in touch with him and fought for him. Great LORs. Received full tuition outside scholarship good at any university, Boys State, started a real legitimate charity with a few others that helps kids, varsity sports, academic clubs, essays demonstrating overcoming difficult circumstances, low income family, caucasian, National Merit Scholar, many other academic awards. I am proud of my son. There are no regrets here…he worked his butt off and there is nothing he could have done differently without knowing what the admissions committee was looking for. The only thing that might have hurt him is he is in the first graduating class of a new high school with no established reputation. He is the only kid from his school who is applying to Ivy League schools. He knows there is a slim chance that a deferred applicant will get in during the regular cycle since there is about 1037 slots left and about 30,000 more applications to come in during the regular cycle. Still a shot at Stanford, Yale, Princeton, and Dartmouth. Again, congratulations to all. Knowing everything my son has done in his life means those admitted must be really impressive.

i, too, was deferred. My friends and teachers always said I was Harvard-material. But I got rejected. I’m neither happy nor sad. I applied for engineering. The admissions committee takes everything into account so maybe Harvard wasn’t for him? I know MIT was a better match but applied SCEA to H just for the hell of it. Oh well. GL on his other colleges

And here’s a vid of how random the college admissions process is

my admitted studetns page isnt working…

Anna I hope I can see you next year wish me luck I guess it’s time for the Harvard RD now…

Posting stats in a little while. Good luck to everyone who was deferred or rejected- I am 100% sure you will all end up at GREAT schools, no matter where you go!

And congrats to all the accepted applicants!!!

nvm it is working omg

Well, I was deferred, and I’m not too upset about it. Disappointed, yes, but I was semi-expecting it, so whatever.

Though, the article from the Crimson absolutely appalls me. The fact that Harvard touts solely ethnic and income diversity, rather than the ACHIEVEMENTS of admitted students, is crazy and speaks volumes of the times we live in. Hopefully the meritocracy of years past will return, and absurd hardship/diversity ceases to play a role in admissions. Blind is best, in this case.

Congratulations to all those admitted, though! Enjoy your swim in one of the most diverse, talented student bodies in the world!

[992 admitted under Early Action | Harvard Gazette](992 admitted under Early Action – Harvard Gazette)

Got deferred, but I guess I still have the chance. I think I roughly have a sense of my “weak spot” (although I will never know if that was what it actually was). I’ve seen deferred people getting in for RD, so I’m not gonna let this go loose

I am Indonesian and won several international and national science fairs, I also won a bronze medal in national chemistry olympiad, I led journalism club, badminton team and I am also vp of student council. I got deferred, but I know my weakness is: my 560 in cr and 620 in writing. I’d like to ask you guys, are the scores really the main reason why I got deferred? I’m gonna take act today and pretty sure that I’ll have a good score.

Anyone that got in can pm me! Anyone else having problems with the Facebook group?

You guys. I got accepted. Today had been such a whirlwind oh my god I’m going to harvard

I got in!!! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!!! This is the best day of my life!!!

collegeluva101: I KNEW IT! HAHAHAHA

^did they mention you in the crimision article!!!

Special congrats to collegeluva, studiousmaximus, and beastly. I know you really wanted this.

@finding: OMG OUR MIXTAPE DREAMS CAN COME TRUE <3

Thanks, Mocean!
