Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2018 applicants thread

@yoskis: yes they did! lol

Congratulations, new prospies. If you do choose Harvard you will not be disappointed. :)

A side note: if you think you didn’t get in because a minority “took your place,” you wouldn’t be a good fit for Harvard in the first place. White rich people aren’t the only people who can be smart.

@AnnaTheGreat, Haha thanks! I’m so happy you got in too!  :)

@collegeluva i knew you would get in! you really deserved it  congrats to everyone!!!

anyone join the harvard facebook page??!?!? THIS IS SO UNREAL

To those of you who got good news, congratulations! To those of you with bad news, I wish you the very best of luck in the spring for Harvard and wherever else you choose to apply. You are the first class I will not be at college with! I hope you all have as good a time as I have had, wherever you end up.

Re: Achievement, merit, and privilege. We always get excellent incoming freshmen, so, as a student here, I’m not really concerned with the level of achievement. A statistic about how high the incoming freshmen’s SAT scores are? All Harvard applicants have good SAT scores, both those who were accepted or not, so that’s not particularly interesting to me. Maybe that’s obnoxious to say, but it’s true! It’s a compliment as much to our applicant pool as to our entering class.

While I am not concerned our ability to attract talented freshmen, however, we have not always succeeded particularly well with students who have had fewer opportunities to excel. I’m always pleased, therefore, to hear of students coming in from diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds, and it’s more likely to be news. I’m pleased for two reasons. Ivy league education benefits the disadvantaged far the most, statistically, so I think there is Harvard should increase outreach to those populations. (Not to lower standards, but merit and hard work can take different forms. A teenager who has to work two part-time jobs to help his family afford the rent, for instance, can’t devote as much time to high school-based extracurriculars as someone with an easier financial situation.) Second, as a student here, one who’s white and comes from a generally advantaged background, I have learned by far the most from students who are not just like me, and I wish that for all classes attending Harvard in the future.

Congratulations again to those admitted, and to the accomplishments I’ve seen on the admitted thread of those deferred! Every one of you is very talented and is going to do very well, wherever you finally choose to go.

Am I allowed to call and ask why I was deferred?

@Neutrality: That’s what I am planning to do… politely, and from there, I can hopefully rectify my status

@NeutralityACTo36 and @viphan: Although you can certainly call Admissions and ask, they will NOT be able to give you a specific reason why you were deferred. Part of that is due to the confidentiality of the admissions process itself. The other part, which is very subjective, is that there really isn’t a reason why you were deferred, other than to vaguely say “Your application didn’t bubble to the top like other students.” It’s damned frustrating, but the reality is: you will never know, as they will not/cannot tell you.

i got accepted along with stanford, yale, hogwarts, itt technical institute. #getrektm8s

what does deferred even mean?

I’m having issues with the group as well! Getting notifications but can’t view the posts.

Blessed to get in. Representing Tulsa, Oklahoma and American Muslims.

Looking back at some of the older posts…

@thebeatlestoday, Congrats on getting in! I totally foresaw it! ;)

Representing Nowhere, Mississippi right here! I can’t wait to meet all of you amazing people next fall. Who is planning on attending Visitas in April, just out of curiosity?

i’m not able to go to visitas! i’ll be on a school trip to poland/israel. do you think not being able to come to visitas will really prevent me from finding a social group when the school year starts?

Accepted! Honestly cannot believe this.

Did any of you who get accepted also send their AP scores, if yes then how you report them to harvard, officially from AP board or your school send them since they have a copy too. Or you just mention them on Common App.

I was told that AP scores are not considered by admission office and they only for Course credit once you select a school.

@dadfor2014: I just reported my AP scores on the Commonapp. Apparently, it ended up just fine for me:). My AP scores were NOT great (had a GI infection and was delirious the week of AP exams - pushed through to do them though…WORST WEEK EVER) and I’m surprised I got in with them honestly.

Congrats wandilecosa13! Judging by recent Facebook posts I believe we have a mutual friend who also congratulated you c; Hope Harvard treats you great!

Wow scores for accepted students are hiiiiigh this year

congrats to all those who have been accepted. I got deferred so wish me luck!
