Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

In the past, Fitzsimons has said that they will read everything that is sent. Now, if this were Yale…

@Melissawilliams‌ i was told 5 so if the person working at the office has the right information its 100%.

@harvard00: The portal says: https://admweb.fas.harvard.edu/ha/Applicant/ApplicantFrame.html</a></p>

Admissions cannot be sending out notices on December 11th at 5pm AND expecting applicants to update their email addresses by midnight on December 11th. That just doesn’t make sense.

FWIW: The people answering the phones in Admissions are usually Harvard students on work study and they don’t often have the most complete information. Relax – I know it’s difficult, but Harvard will send out some sort of “official” notice soon.

Thank you @harvard00‌ for the info!

Reposting in regards to the decisions date/email update deadline: I called the Harvard Admissions Office main phone number about five minutes ago. I was told that emails with admissions decisions will be sent out on December 11th at 5:00 PM EST. When I asked about the portal you linked to, gibby, he said it was outdated, and that Harvard no longer uses this portal (I think this means that the 11th was the deadline for email updates for a previous year) :)

@gibby‌ there is no need to be condescending about it. I simply passed on information i was told.

@gibby‌ the portal u r talking about has been outdated… I saw that page even before I submitted my application, long before I even started to fill them out! :)

^^ @harvard00: I wasn’t trying to be condescending; I apologize if it came off that way. Harvard will send out some sort “official” notice soon – either by email or posting it on their website. That’s the way they have done things in the past. The last thing Admissions wants is for hundreds of students to be calling them asking about the date.

To be fair, @gibby was not the first person to point out the portal, nor did I find his comment condescending.

I assumed all along that the decisions will be released on 12/11, because Cornell and Columbia have also announced a 12/11 release date. If the decisions come out at 5 p.m. this year vs. 3 p.m. last year, it’s not a big deal, and is certainly not going to affect the decision. Let’s not get bogged down in the minutiae. It is what it is, we’ve done all that we can do and can only hope for the best.

Well, two people were told the 11th at 5pm and the Likely letter that someone posted on this thread also said the 11th so I’m thinking it’s the 11th. :)

darn, i was kinda hoping for the decisions to be out on the 12th… my dad’s birthday is the 12th, and since im a little superstitious, i was thinking maybe having the decisions out on the 12th would help me (at least my mindset, not the actual decisions!) Regardless though, im trying to keep reasonable and not go crazy:)

ooh, we have nine days guys, NINE DAYS. the agony is sinking in.

Idk how I will do my homework for the 12th lol! I hope I don’t have any test on Friday !!

@PcollegegirlP‌ same i feel ya. the 12th is also the day im scheduled to do a chemistry demo for elementary kids so kinda uncertain how i’d function

At this same time last year the SCEA 2018 Applicants Thread was 33 pages long and had 487 posts as opposed to this one at 134 pages and over 2000 posts. I’m wondering if many kids saw how Harvard increased the number of kids accepted early in each of the past two years and decided to place their bets accordingly. We’ll see when they release the data.

Hahah damn! @easycadence‌ let’s hope everything Goes smoothly and u r able to function better than ever before!
For me 5pm is gonna be midnight here… And obviously once I get the decision I won’t be able to sleep… So no sleep for the 11th and 12th lol!

Guys. How is it December 2nd already.

@calliemoon11‌ in 15 minutes it’s gonna be December 3 for me… Haha I will be able to say 8 more days left!

Hey everyone! I’m a freshman at Harvard College and I distinctly remember the first few weeks of last December as being a bit of an emotional roller coaster. I checked CC threads daily, if not hourly. I had the iPhone app and checked CC in class. I went through as many of the accepted-threads of previous years as I could to try to gauge my chances of acceptance (though I was actually accepted to Yale early, but ended up going to Harvard after applying there regular, go figure). I’ve been there. Just wanted to say good luck to you all, and to keep breathing regardless of the decision. You’ll end up at a wonderful school where you will thrive. Everything really does work out. I’d say feel free to PM me with questions, but I actually don’t think I’ve posted enough to activate my PM inbox :P. I’ll try to check back in when decisions are released to answer any questions the accepted class might have. Hang in there!

@thatguyfromsocal i’ve always wondered what the accepted students did! lol
