Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

Don’t think anyone in the history of my school has gone to harvard (we’re only 7 years old though) but two went on to Yale last year!

@entrebusecon Maybe you’ll be the first in a while to go to Harvard! We tend to do well with Columbia and Princeton for some reason. We’ve had 1 Yalie and 1 Brownie last year though. about 10 or so other kids at top 25 schools, but for some reason most kids just stick to the SEC schools because we’re in the south, and that’s just the popular thing to do. lol.

Anybody here a first generation college student?

Usually one kid each year gets in at my school. We haven’t ever had anyone get in early though… Hoping this will be the year! Question, do you guys know if it is a good thing to be the only student applying early from your school?

@calliemoon11 Did anyone else from your school apply? I sometimes feel like everyone stares because I am the almost only one applying to any top school, let alone Ivies! Haha. Oh, the wonders of small private schools.

@NoRsinBoston Yes! I am a first gen, too

truth be told, i kind of applied scea because there are applicants more qualified than i am in my school and i thought it would be better if the committee saw my application first.

the result probably doesn’t depend only on applicants from your school. we’re competing against the entire world.

BUT there are a lot of prep schools with many Harvard-worthy candidates that can only send a few of those to harvard each year. So there’s that.

Edit: The only time I’ll feel sorry for kids in prep schools, lol

@Appanxiety Man, so much is riding on this. It’s not so much my family pushing me, but me pushing myself for my family. Do you feel that extra pressure too? (Those Extra Pascals Tho)

@Jewwlioonn There is a slight possibility that if you are a lesser candidate applying early will give you a better chance than RD because the better candidates in your school are not known to the committee, but I doubt it. More importantly you are competing against your school’s history and against other people similar to yourself. Harvard doesn’t put a quota on your school, so both you and the better candidate could potentially get in.

I’m from a small/medium public school in New England

@NoRsinBoston Yes! I absolutely do. And it is so hard to explain because my family encourages college, but doesn’t put pressure on me to go to an amazing school, so the pressure I feel is only from myself. I feel like it is my duty to do this for my family that has put forth so much extra energy and money to make sure I could go to college.

Representing the beautiful cheese land of Wisconsin! :D

I go to a medium sized public school

Oh guys!!! I called the office earlier this week and the person who answered the phone said that decisions will be finalized by Monday.

Sounded like a solid source. (cue violin)

@jalebigirl‌: Now that is an absolutely terrifying thought :open_mouth:

@jalebigirl‌ Sounds interesting, do you guys think we will get an email about the status portal closure tomorrow or Monday? This is getting real now

Is snow an urban legend? I go to a relatively big private school in CA!

Why does it have to get real? I’d honestly rather keep posting in circles on this thread forever than be rejected/deferred.

I think the portal will probably close soon. The person on the phone said made it clear that anything being uploaded this late in the game is not going to be considered. Closing the portal is probably just a formality.

@youngster9‌: I believe Princeton applicants received there’s two or three days ago, so I think it’ll be pretty soon. I’m hoping for tomorrow, but Monday would be alright too :)

@skslxxbjk‌ Looks like you caught us. It is actually all cheese, but we wanted to keep it to ourselves so we called it snow. Remember to keep this shush shush :stuck_out_tongue:

@skslxxbjk‌: It’s never snowed once in my CA town. Snow is such a foreign concept! To think that people on the East Coast face temperatures in the single digits…shudders. I think that 60 degrees is really cold!
