Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

I think it’s a good idea to have apps done before decision day (though at this point, I’m pretty sure that’s impossible for me, haha!) though I don’t know if I could press submit before I found out. Applications are insanely expensive, and if there’s an off chance I can save money, I’ll take it  I do feel as though I’ll pretty dejected after my inevitable rejection/deferral, so I’m trying to be productive before the 11th/12th.

How far are you guys in terms of your RD apps?

@frozens applied to 2 and have the application part filled out for the rest. Will complete essays for them after decision day if rejected

@frozens I have submitted one. the other one almost done. I may work on a couple more before 12.15.

Greeting from last year Harvard SCEA applicant - deferred and rejected :)) - and to wish all of you luck! I am applying to Columbia ED, which was always my dream school, this year after my gap-year.

how many colleges are you guys applying to?

@harvard00: I have 7 on my list right now, but I may add to that list after SCEA decisions are released

Anyone else applying to any schools even if Harvard accepts?

I’m definitely going to apply RD to Penn, Yale, and Stanford, regardless. (Well maybe not Yale)

@harvard00 I’m applying to 13 (assuming I’m not accepted EA here)…Miami Ohio, Michigan, and UVA were all EA as well because they’re public. So 9 more to go  @Melissawilliams probably not, but that’s probably because my mom went to Harvard so its always kinda been the dream school since day 1. I’m still thinking about Stanford RD maybe if I got accepted (which, lets face it, is a slim possibility), but no other schools come close for me.

@viphan good luck to you! I really respect the fact you’re doing a gap year I can’t imagine doing that no matter what happens with these decisions.

@soccerlover17‌ It has been a really really fruitful year for me. I worked internship with various institutions, took some online courses, made some money for next year etc. Most importantly, I grew up.

I really recommend HS Class of 2015 to consider taking a gap year.

@Melissawilliams‌: I may apply to 1 or 2 other schools just to able to leverage/compare financial aid!

@harvard00 @soccerlover17 I’m applying to around 16-17, and should have them all finished before Harvard decisions are released. I have a lot of work ahead of me though haha (It’s going to be a fun Thanksgiving break!) Good luck to you guys on Harvard (I’m crossing my fingers for all of us!)

@karabekian I know, but regardless of my acceptance, I would still apply to all of my other schools. I would just want to have some options. I’m not opposed to turning down Harvard…

If I by some miracle did get accepted by Harvard, I’m probably going to pull all of my applications except Carnegie Mellon, Princeton, and Stanford!

@frozens I was freaking out way too much about Harvard SCEA, so I decided to get all my apps done so I wouldn’t fixate too much on a single school. I have rough drafts of all my supplements done, which I’m still in disbelief about, haha.
@harvard00‌ I initially had about eight, but since I finished up all the supplements, I decided to add four more schools, including two colleges with no supplements (!).

I’m planning to send them all on the 12th if I’m rejected or deferred. Hopefully, it’ll stop me from obsessing too much over the Harvard outcome!

How many SCEA applicants do you guys think are majoring in humanities and how many in STEM?

If accepted (not likely) I will just apply to MIT (actually been my dream school) and UChicago (love the essay and because they waive the fee already). If not I have some other 7 schools – would love Vassar if I can get in.

@viphan I’m taking a gap year too – but last year I didn’t apply to any school… I’m in Cameroon now but will come back home soon and I haven’t had any ideas of what I will do yet – except for taking the slow train to get as far as I can - if having enough money can get to other continents lol. But I agree with you the idea of gap year - even if it’s not fruitful it can be time off to closely examine everything :)
