Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

@boxofdonuts I’m curious as well! Both Yale and Princeton reported a slightly lower early application volume this year.

purely anecdotal evidence. the 21% from last year sure was enticing enough to get me to apply! also… maybe Yale and Princeton’s early numbers declined because potential applicants all applied to Harvard? :o

i really hope i’m wrong about this haha

@boxofdonuts watch Harvard really surprise everyone with an extraordinarily high EA acceptance rate. like 25%, or something like that, since if you are correct that they’ve taken some of Yale and Princeton’s applicants, the EA pool should in fact be more impressive than ever, so they should accept even more people.

I’m surprised you’re not mentioning Stanford… Stanford has had the lowest acceptance rate of all HYPSM for at least three years running, now? As I said before, their application numbers have been hitting record highs. At least to me, it seems like more people are dreaming about Stanford than they are about Harvard. That might be why Harvard’s SCEA rate rose last year?

@WooTheDay‌ Oh gosh I hope you’re right… LOL

i’m not sure how much i’d want an even higher scea acceptance rate as that would virtually guarantee rejection for everyone deferred and the vast majority applying regular

also if all the Yale and Princeton lost-applicants actually applied to Stanford REA instead I’d be totally ok with that

@boxofdonuts but Harvard has to protect its yield. At least they know it’s safe to assume that the vast majority of people applying early would choose Harvard over any other school. People who apply to Harvard RD may end up choosing another school, so I don’t think they care too much about fewer acceptances in RD and they especially don’t care much about deferred applicants. I think I read on a forum on here, only about 100 or so deferred applicants end up being accepted.

@Bemusedfyz‌ haha lol yeah all we know is That H really looks deep into the applications and they try their best!
@UzMnemonic‌ I don’t know how true what i said is, I simply quoted it from the Crimson article! But WOW ur achievements are definitely impressive! I know that some LL’s are already sent out, idk if they are still sending more LL’s to any early applicants! But either ways In like 20 days the decisions come out, so u will know ur decisions soon  hope u the best!

@PcollegegirlP, can you explain to me the difference between a “Likely letter” and acceptance to EA. Thanks!

http://www.collegeconfidential.com/dean/what-are-likely-letters-like/

@nomatterwhat‌ A likely letter (mostly given to recruited athletes) is a letter Sent to an applicant before the decisions are actually out. The letter basically states that the applicants admission is imminent! However it is not an official acceptance letter…It’s a notification sent out in advance before the official release of admission decisions! After one receives this letter, he will later also get an official decision , the day the decisions come out!
:)

Go

Thank you @PcollegegirlP !! :D

Thank you @skieurope :)

Thank you so much for your respective responses @PcollegegirlP‌ and @T26E4‌!

@‌PcollegegirlP

Thank you ! :)

Hey guys! Does any anyone have “Miscellaneous” listed under their application checklist on their Harvard’s Application Status Portal. I have two miscellaneous materials listed as received; however, I didn’t submit any nor did I request anyone to submit miscellaneous materials on my behalf.

@pipsicle I think you can send email to fileroom@fas.harvard.edu
Congrats!! Have you won YA in writing discipline?

Thanks!!! It was for my short story portfolio.

@pipsicle Last time when my daughter need to add some missing info to her app, she called Harvard, and they let her to send the information to this email address. It is better to call this number 617-495-1551 to confirm, whether they suggest you send email to this email address.
When you send email, beside your info, do add your high school name and date of birth.

You are so talented! Harvard loves talented kids. You should have a good chance to be accepted by Harvard!
