@WooTheDay I’ve self-published (as part of a National Novel Writing Month prize), but I’ve never been published-published. I’m looking for an agent, though! Sigh, I can dream.

@fairyfantasy Hyping me up…the pun! XD

@calliemoon11 what’s your favorite genre? For writing, that is?

@PoorKid41 @harvard00 I mean the regional admissions officers at colleges besides Harvard. (Because Harvard’s process is basically a series of reviews from multiple committees.) I didn’t mean to say counselors lol, my bad. But a lot of schools have admissions staff who work only on certain regions. For example, my U of Michigan admissions officer is Lindsey Audette and my NYU admissions officer is Annie Nelson. You can usually find them just by searching “(insert school name) regional admission officers” and then on whatever page it takes you to, look for the person covering your region. It’s usually by region (Midwest, East Coast, etc.) or state.

Do yall know when it was released last year?
Isn’t there another school that hasn’t released theirs either? @Visionary123 @WooTheDay

@mimosa26 That sounds amazing, have fun! I can’t plan anything fabulous like that because I have school that day.
@Karabekian I don’t really have a favorite genre, but I do have certain motifs, elements, and principles that recur through almost all my novels. My genre of choice has changed multiple times, influenced most heavily by my age and by what I’m reading at the time. Regardless of genre, though, emotionally realistic storylines are a must. The plot can be bizarre and fantastical, but the characters, their personal relationships, and their emotional development always have to be believable.

@calliemoon11 - Ahh! I did NaNoWriMo 2011 but haven’t done it since. So amazing that you went as far as to get yours published, though! Are you a nerdfigther by any chance?!

@WooTheDay Yay a fellow NaNoer! May I ask what your novel was about?
I’m a semi-Nerdfighter! I haven’t immersed myself too much in Nerdfighteria, but I do love John Green. (And his US History videos saved my life.)

@calliemoon11 I like the random fact idea! Here’s mine: I can pull my head through my legs because my back is extremely flexible. Like if you did a backbend and walked your hands all the way in to hold your ankles… It’s pretty weird. (My dance instructor wanted me to audition for Cirque de Soleil instead of applying to Harvard LOL NO THANKS)

@calliemoon11 - I’ve been a longtime nerdfighter (since 2006, I think?) so I was really excited to hear you might be! John Green is definitely my favourite of the two! His thoughts from places videos are consistently amazing. Which is your favourite novel of his? Mine is (perhaps surprisingly) Looking For Alaska. Kind of peeved they’re making the Paper Towns movie before it… there was talk of doing LfA but they dropped the project early on. Sigh!

It’s been a while, but my novel was about a boy who dreamed of becoming pilot. He signed his life away to join the military in this fictional country, but ultimately learned he couldn’t become a pilot because his vision was too poor. I was really into angst earlier on in high school, hahaha.

@harvard00 Yeah, i saw the same time zones on last years thread. On my screen, the decisions started rolling in at 10:00 am (but of course we know for them that it was actually 3:00 pm). Are you also on the east coast, by any chance?

The times on this thread work fine for me, so I’m not sure what the issue is.

@calliemoon11 Haha, I didn’t even realize I used a pun until you mentioned it.

gah they received my act. my subject tests come out soon hopefully they’re good too :/

@Jellybae Best of luck!! I’m wishing you well!
@WooTheDay Wow, nine years! That’s really cool! I’ve actually only read The Fault in Our Stars, but I loved it. He has such an interesting, distinct worldview that I think is really important for modern Young Adult readers and writers to listen to. I also respect him as a writer-businessman, someone who positively uses social media and the Internet in general to engage with his audience and with the world. In that sense, he’s definitely a big role model for me. What introduced you to John Green?
Haha my middle school novels are positively dripping with angst. That sounds really interesting! I have a soft spot for stories about pilots, for whatever reason.

So excited for everyone on this thread! Can’t wait for December 11 (if that is the correct date for decisions haha)!

@calliemoon11 have you ever submitted to the Scholastic Art/Writing program? Also, which authors influenced your writing the most/ in the best way? Have you read any Vonnegut? I think my college essays and other pieces I’ve written have been heavily influenced by him.

Also, I recommend reading the Best Teen Writing book that Scholastic puts out annually (pdfs available online). I think you’ll find the ‘angsty’ writing that you wrote as a middle schooler reflected by the amazing pieces in there.

@harvard00 To me it shows 5:00 pm… I’m guessing it’s something to do with the timzone and stuff!
@mimosa26 that’s so cool… U will be able to get ur mind off harvard and the time will definitely pass by faster…
I, however, will be sitting home reloading my email every minute lol!
Have a safe trip!

What email do I use to update my AO?

@jellybae how can you tell? Did it change for you in the status portal?

yep! @AnotherPSEOKid
