Official Harvard SCEA Class of 2019 Applicants Thread

what about time? does anyone have info on that?

@jalebigirl I love reading sci-fi novels! I would recommend Dune by Frank Herbert, if you have not read it yet, or the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov. Also, just wondering if anyone has submitted any extra materials to Harvard, like a resume? I submitted my resume today in the application portal. Just curious if anyone else submitted anything extra?

@ivykid4thewin‌ i’ve read the Foundation series, but not Dune. Adding that to the list! I didn’t submit anything extra. I feel like it’s actually a pain for the admission committee to pore over things that we think are super important but they see every single day.

@graceunderfire I wrote about how my life journey (from childhood to going to a military school) shapes my ideal that beauty and love are worth fighting for  though I’m not sure I succeeded in delivering it

@jalebigirl‌ Yes, definitely add Dune to the list! It’s a great novel (actually, series of novels haha). And yeah, it might be a pain, but I had some important info on my resume that I was not able to fit into my application.

@ivykid4thewin‌ Yeah, CommonApp is pretty limited. good luck!

@graceunderfire‌ I wrote about my experiences as an entrepreneur, especially how I created my own social entrepreneurial company to help the homeless and how my company has molded my passion in life to beneficially impact society.

@jalebigirl‌ Thanks! Good luck to you too! :)

@ivykid4thewin‌ Yep, I submitted a resume and a journalism piece.
@spockthethird‌ Welcome to Anxiety Land  Are you a Star Trek fan?

@mimosa26‌ Wow, a military school? That’s fascinating. What was that like?

I don’t think I’ll be getting any sleep between now and the 11th. Just YouTube marathons and pints of ice cream for me…before and after decisions are released.

My essays were about my difficulties in learning how to write and the struggles that I’ve had with relgion because of attending a religious high school. Nothing out of the ordinary.

@jalebigirl‌ You should read The Worthing Saga by Orson Scott Card! It’s pretty mindblowing too. Its plot covers tens of thousands of years.

@jalebigirl‌ I wrote about religion too! After rereading my app so many times im probably going to rewrite it for my rd apps (unless for some odd reason harvard accepts me then I won’t need to do anything lol)

Hi everyone! I’ve been lurking since the thread was like 30 pages and finally decided to join the party lol.

Does anyone have any advice for keeping your mind off of the application? No matter what I’m doing, my mind always drifts to my Harvard application and decisions day; I’ve spent way too much time on the Harvard website, watching On Harvard Time videos, and re-reading decisions threads from the past few years. I think I’m actually going insane…

@AuTurtle: Same with me. I think I have watched every video on Youtube.

I can’t stop thinking about decision day…

For my supplement I wrote about my internship with a house of rep I’m my area and how I was able to offer a new perspective to congress. And how I personally grew from that experience and everything, and how now I am applying to be the field representative

When do decisions come out, on the 11th or the 12th?

Haha wow, reading all of your serious and legit supplement topics makes me feel kinda weird about mine. I took a totally lighthearted and funny (I hope) approach with the roommate essay. But I was glad I had the opportunity to incorporate some humor and quirks in there, since that wasn’t really shown in the rest of my app. I didn’t have anyone read it other than people on CC, but they really enjoyed it so I just went for it. Hopefully the admissions office will feel the same

@nothingmanten‌ It’s my personal guess that it’ll be Dec 12 at 3:00 pm EST. We’ve had endless speculation about this spanning several pages in this thread, haha. I really don’t think a 24 hour difference is that big of a deal though - whether it’s Thursday, Friday, or Monday. Just know that it’ll definitely be out around 3, so we can all frantically check our email at that exact time.

@AuTurtle‌ I so understand how you feel. What took my mind off for a while was working on other applications. It helped me realize that there are other amazing schools out there and stopped me from fixating on Harvard (at least, for the time being). Good luck.

Just out of curiosity, where else has everyone applied/planned to apply?
