Official "I got a 5 on the AP test with less than an A in the class" Thread

AP Euro: B- in class, 5 on AP test! Really tough class, yeah I’ve complained about it on many threads here on CC, but really it is (everyone gets a B or below), but I’m happy for a 5!

Who else got a 5 with less than an A in the class (for any AP test)?

I got a B+ in Psych (I was so close to having that A) and got a 5. Still mad of being so close to getting an A, but glad that I’m done with high school and can continue on to uni.

I like how we have so many ‘official’ threads now :p

Yeah I know we have too many ‘official’ threads, but that seems to be the way to get everyone’s attention!

If you get under an A in the class and obtain a 5, something really must be wrong; whether that issue is you or your teacher, something is happening that shouldn’t be.

^My teacher agrees. The score you get on the test should reflect your grade in the class. He will gladly change our grade if we scored higher than our grade for the class. He makes his class very very difficult knowing that if he pushes us, we are going to do well. I got a 5 on the test which changed my grade from a 79.6 to a 100%!

At our school, a number of the AP teachers have a policy whereby an AP score of 5 earns the student an additional boost in the course grade (e.g., B+ becomes A-, A- becomes A, etc). It at least helps to equalize things in cases where the class is more difficult than the AP setup intended it to be.

What class was that for?

In my AP US History class, I never got anything above a low C on the tests. I did terrible on them, and I also saw a lot of the very intelligent kids struggling in the class. The teacher was terrible and I ended the class with a mid-B (~85, I think) but I got a 5 on the test!! :D

That’s only fair! I hope my teachers will do that.

You guys have nice teachers! None of mine would EVER do that!

I wish my teachers do that, but I go to a competitive public school where grades have to be put in by the week school ends, so it would be a really big hassle if all the teachers went back to change grades.

Do we get any kind of boon for doing well on the test, even though our grades aren’t the top?

I received a D in the 2nd semester of my online AP statistics class. The teacher threatened all of us that we will FAIL the AP exam.

I received a 5. And the test was boring. Win. I love being a senior…I lol’d at my online report card.

Solid B in AP Biology.

770 SAT Biology E
5 AP Exam

School does not do grade changes/boosts.

smh.

D in second semester of stats, got a 5. This one’s not a 5, but I got a 4 in bio with an f in the class all the way through. Kid that sat next to me had an a and got a 2.
I’m kind of just a major slacker though. Never bothered studying, did maybe 4 of the required lab reports out of 12 in bio.

Saw your post on that other thread too about this. Are you just good at tests, even if you don’t do the work? Like good at AP tests, without doing the class well?

I’m fortunate to have the kind of mind that works best under pressure. also, I’m not a huge fan of busy work and my gpa is fine even with a few bad grades. So I tend to slack in class and then do well on the tests.

I did the exact opposite! I got over 100% both semesters of my AP Calculus AB class but got a 1 on the test. But that’s because my teacher didn’t teach us anything the whole year.

I put this on the other thread about my son:

AP Euro 5, 750 World History SAT II, 97 Global Regents, C+ course (child does not believe in HW).

Kumquat - I actually checked your birthday on your profile to make sure you aren’t my son because your MO sounds just like his.
