@doodlesack414 I did tons and tons of practice test-- official SAT blue book, and released past tests (there’s a site called crack-sat that has them, but make sure the released test you open has answers and curves because not all of them do).
Write down an explanation for each question you missed, and pay attention to the concepts of those questions! Overall it just takes some time and patience. I studied for about a month, from winter break to the January test, but I did almost 20 practice tests total. Good luck!!!
@AlexLi31415 790?? I thought it’d be -1 770… Do you know if you omitted 1?
The curve might’ve been different for this test.
Would’ve been a lenient curve, wow
@loop2loop no, I think that’s right. You got 60 out of 80 questions right, and an 8 on the essay… If you had gotten all mcq right and 8 on essay THEN you would have got, I think a 770… You had to get all mcq right and 10 on essay (That’s what I got) to get perfect.
@spanishsoccer3 hey, we could be twins~ same subscores and everything!
CR 770

I’m happy with this! Math always kicks my butt but oh well
NO MORE SAT FOREVER YESSS YES YES
To anyone who retook after getting a decent score the first time, (or anyone who plans on retaking) did you just continue to study everything, and work on practice tests, even the sections that you are happy with? My D got a good score but got lower than she expected in math and writing, and there is definitely potential for improvement. She is going to retake in March. @grayhelveticas
Last year i scored 1840 and in between then and the januray sat, i did 3 practice exams, averaging 1930. I also used this forum for “12 days to a 12”. I scored 2150, and i attribute the increase in part due to taking the practice exams and familiarizing myself with the SAT. I used blue book, though not very much, but i find it hard to believe i could have a natural 310 point increase.
@Faulkner1897 I definitely paid a little less attention to studying writing concepts because I’d gotten 770 W (9 essay) in November. But I always did the full practice tests, just for the sake of learning how to better pace myself. It’s also helpful to get comfortable with the whole, tiring, multi-hour ordeal by doing entire practice tests.
I have had 100s in english class for as long as i can remember but I Got a 520 on CR , any advice on how to acheive at LEAST. A 600?
@Kmacky I’d say try not to overthink questions, but instead systematically and quantitatively. By this I mean when reading the questions, simply compare the sheer number of supporting examples for a response and the one with the most support will typically be the answer. That may or may not be hard for you depending on whether or not you are very analytic, but that brought my CR+W up 240pts
@Faulkner1897 I got a 2050 last year (770M, 600CR, 680W) and a 2200 this year (800M, 680CR, 720W). The only thing I did to study was skim a list of grammar rules common to the SAT, and read a long series of tips for the essay, which only brought me from a 9 to a 10. So basically, I have no real advice. If you take it again you will probably do better just because you have more experience with it and have learned more in school and stuff.
@Kmackyy I know it’s sounds boring as fuck, but doing a few reading sections for practice will probably make a big difference. Also maybe study vocab or common prefixes or something.
@Kmackyy You’ll ace SAT CR if you have deep experience in reading, which is not acquired in a series of few days (Rome was not built in one day). You would have to have been reading hard articles and passages since middle school.
But, there is still a way. I am a fob, meaning I have lived in the US for only five years. I have not had that chance to read a lot, especially hard materials, in middle school, and that is sometimes a challenge. What I did, however, for SAT CR, was to STUDY A LOT OF VOCAB. It is even an understatement that 50% of the SAT CR is vocabulary (seemingly not for new SAT, but still viable for the old version). If you have that down, you are guaranteed at least 500.
The other half can still be covered by mastering the types of SAT CR questions. Expect how the format of the test is, what kind of passages you’ll find, and what types of questions you will be asked. After mastering those, you will be able to answer most of the reading questions.
Using this method, I got a 700 on my last SAT and 660 on this one because I kinda messed up on this one. This is not up to the CC standard where you’re supposed to get 750+ but still favorable for your expectations.
Hope I helped!
2390!!!
790 CR 800 Math 800 Writing
what was the CR curve?
R 750, M 720 W 770!! @yesyesyes1 thanks for the underestimate, made my score even more pleasing. It was impress btw
wut i got a 740 on writing with an 11 essay
I went from 2170 last year (730CR/780M/660W) to 2320. The essay really helped, filling up two pages. I believe I made up a quote as well.
wait so does it look really bad for colleges if i got like an 11/12 on essay but only 740/760 overall
770 M (ughhhhhh so pissed about that -1 :-/), 790 CR (I wish I got 800, but I’m not gonna complain, cuz that was better than I expected haha), and 750 W (72 MC, 10 Essay) (I THOUGHT I DID WELL ON WRITING…AND MY ESSAY DEFINITELY DESERVED A 12 CUZ IT WAS BETTER THAN MY PREVIOUS ESSAY WHICH SCORED A 10…and I thought I got 800 in writing)…so a 2310 where I could have gotten a 2390 easily…not too pleased, especially since 2310 won’t get me into a very good college, considering that my school is highly competitive.
