Official June 2nd SATI Thread

I put pristine because it said something about agriculture and the other one didn’t seem to make as much sense. Can someone remeind me of the exact sentence??

also, I had a question about the writing section sentence errors. it was briefly discussed previously and the conclusion was that it was a “no error” answer but I’m not so sure.

The question about the biologically and chemically insect one. Again, I don’t remember the exact sentence. But it said something like:

Insects can be removed chemically, with pesticides, or biologically.

My thoughts were: parallelism. It should be chemically, pesticidically, or biologically. (I’m not even sure if pesticidically is a word, though). anyone?

i also but with pesticides as the error because of the parallelism issue you states, but now that i think about it, what would with pesticides be? maybe it was a trick question… anyone have input?

I marked it as no error, for what it’s worth.

did anyone else find the vocabulary overall on this SAT to be more challenging? I took it twice before (January and April) and thought this was the hardest. Not just in the critical reading sentence completions, but also the words used as answers (ie: prosaic)

so for the biography one, was it that the writer felt real life did not meet standards of the narratives or was it the juxtaposition of the inconsistency of real life as compared to those described in narratives? I put juxtaposition since the author was comparing and contrasting.

also the one about the primary difference between the two short passages on biography, was it that the 1st was general and 2nd was more specific, or the 1st was about novelists in general and 2nd about biographers?

Pristine. I’m an environmentalist/ humanitarian, so I think I was a bit biased. It seemed to me like the sentence was about how the forest was pristine before because we couldn’t get into it and **** it up.

I’m fairly certain that the biography quote demonstrates how real life pales in comparison to fiction, or something along those lines. For example, the beginning and end are identical, the dialogue isn’t as interesting…

1st specific 2nd general

Oh, and the other answer was E) Passage 2 is a subset of Passage 1.

Exactly what I was saying. Good show, bschenkel. I like saying that.

mrniceguy, each of which blah blah is NOT an independent clause. Try saying that to your mother, it wouldn’t make any sense by itself

How altruistic of you! ;-)

for the motorcycle passage, wasnt there a question in the last paragraph about “why didnt the author realize a phenomenon before” dont quite remember the answer

Did it involve a “misconception of a certain lifestyle,” by any chance?

the answer to the “why didnt the motorcycler realize the joy of motorcycling earlier?” question, juventus10, was (as far as i can remember) something like “sometimes people dont notice things that are very obvious”

yes doctorx017 thats what i got

yea thats what i got too b/c he said that when he was riding with his wife he didnt notice it, but then he talked about the time which he noticed how great that lifestyle and cutlure was

Is this question distinct from the “obvious yet overlooked” one? If so, I think that “misconception” was included in what seemed to be the correct answer.

anyone know that one question where the answers were ‘stop’ ‘listen’ ‘ugh’ ‘sigh’ and if it was experimental or not?
