Does anyone know if McGill is really popular among US citizens?

10% (2400 students) of McGill’s enrolment is American. Read some of the other threads on this forum, especially “Ask a McGill Alumnus” for some insights on being an American at McGill.

Got in!!!
I got into the faculty of Agricultural Environmental Science, which through talking to the coordinator between athletics and admissions I was able to add as my second choice 5 days ago. I’m still waiting on science but I doubt I’ll get in with the others wait listed. Finally I can stop checking Minerva 5 times a day.

SAT II’s 780 Bio, 640 Math II, and 610 physics)

SAT: 1990
IB diploma with predicted 38/45
International student

They got my midyear report on the 9th of february and on the 10th they had already given me an answer. I’m happy they didn’t make me wait like some of you guys I’m currently waiting for NYU and this is SO stressfull

Don’t worry if it says reviewed - decision pending, look on the bright side, it doesn’t say refused.

I got admitted for Electrical/Computer Engineering last week.
Canadian Permanent Resident (But I actually applied as an International - so they don’t know I’m a canadian permanent resident - i’ll sort that out later!!)
Ethnicity: Black (African)
Age: 16 yrs 9 months old - Yh i know i’m young, but i’ll be 17 when I start there though.
Applied using British educational system.

If i was ‘admitted pending final results’, and I am currently an A/A+ student…would they have a problem with one or 2 B+ grades this quarter and still keep me in?

At this point, they don’t care about your grades, unless they turn into D’s and F’s. “Pending final results” means you need to graduate, because they don’t let you in without a high school diploma (McGill needs notification that you got your degree).

I was admitted as an IB student and in my letter of acceptance they specified that my acceptance was valid provided I maintain my grades and also that I receive my International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Will they really rescind my acceptance if I fail my IB exams in May? I’ll have already said no to other universities, and could find myself facing a year without college.

Not familiar with IB but if failing your IB exams means you will not be a secondary school graduate, then that would likely result in McGill rescinding the offer. This would be the same for any university in Canada or the US: failing to graduate from high school means that you are not eligible to attend.

No - I am a US high school student, but I’m also an IB diploma candidate. That means I have to take IB exams in May, and I find out the results in July. Getting your IB diploma is separate from being a secondary school graduate - that just means graduating high school, which i’m certain i’ll do.

Not passing IB exams doesn’t disqualify you from attending universities in general - only McGill seems to have an issue with it. However, if I accept McGill’s offer, this means I have to turn down other colleges. Should I not receive my IB diploma (again, this is separate from a regular high school diploma) i’ll find out in july - by which time I will no longer be eligible to attend McGill (at least, this is what I’m trying to figure out) or other schools because I will have turned them down already.

I just want to know if McGill really does rescind acceptances based on failing to receive an IB diploma - because if they do, then it’s sort of a gamble to accept their offer.

Admitted pending final results, as I’ve said n times, means you need your high school diploma. The grades are almost irrelevant at this point unless they somehow drop into the C, D and Fs.

@greengables: They probably would not revoke admission for not getting the IB diploma, you just wouldn’t get the credits. If you look through the Facebook McGill 2013 page discussions, that has happened to people.

Were you admitted as a US Student or IB Student? It might make a difference, but not much. I would suggest not failing IB anyway though…it seems like such a waste of two years. If you keep up your grades/work there is no reason you should fail IB.

hi i was accepted into the faculty of arts but was waitlisted into the desautels management faculty. I really want to go the management one but I have to give a reply for the arts by may 1. if i accept, am i removed from the waitlist for desautel? Will they give me a decision before may 1 so I can decide?

Hey guys,
Im a resident of Quebec but I’m currently living in the U.S. my application status for the past three weeks has been at “decision pending”. I called the office of admissions and they told me i have to wait for a few more days. Is this bad? I’m getting really nervous because Mcgill is my top choice school! Do I still have a good chance of making it in?
