**OFFICIAL Mt SAC CC TRANSFER THREAD**

yup, any courses taken for a grade or pass fail must be listed
this includes classes from other schools as well

@Vltord

If you follow the “Explore majors” link on assist, click on the “Majors” link, and specify that you want to see their information for aerospace engineering for UCSD, there will be a page that shows that IGETC is recommended for the major.
and btw, it is still relatively early in the semester, which means that there is more than enough time for you to bring up your grades.

Practically all their majors are recommended to do the igetc but i have been told from day one by an engineering professor and counselors that the igetc is not recommended for engineering

@Vltord
The thing is that when it comes to UCSD, it’s not your major that determines the type of general-ed classes you’re going to have to take. What determines that is the college that you’re accepted into. If you managed to finish IGETC, then you would automatically be exempted from having to take any other lower division GE’s in 4 of their 6 colleges. The pages below explain some of that.

[MAE Undergraduate Advising | Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering](http://maeweb.ucsd.edu/node/34)

[UC San Diego Campus Specific Admission & Graduation Requirements](http://ccctransfer.org/uc/uc-campuses/uc-san-diego-campus-specific)

@Dainese I’m looking to transfer to usc. Can you talk a little about your experience at USC. Also what’s a good spot for transfers to live?

haha where to start…
well once you get to whatever college you transfer to, DONT slack off at all.
its really easy to accept the fact that you got in and youre some super BAMF
but no, ull soon realize people here are double majoring, triple, even quadruple.
SC in particular is great, its constantly growing (literally always under construction)

the atmosphere just screams history. buildings of red brick, tommy trojan, the hall of fame etc etc… you can go right across the street to the natural history museum for free with ID, you can also go to the science center for free :)

the gym is mediocre, always packed with frat bros but theyre very nice to talk to if you want some help with working out haha

theres a TON of clubs and organizations to join from…equestrian to fencing. the population is quite diverse and of course you have your stereotypical racial majors IE engineers being asian and humanities being caucasian haha…

the only downside ive run into at SC is everything that ISNT SC
like the parking problems outside of SC, the thefts/crimes, and the solicitors on campus

as to a good spot for transfers to live…
im not sure since i live off campus in pasadena :X
but most transfers live off campus

if you have more specific questions id gladly answer them, im not affiliated with SC so i can talk **** about them if i wanted too…so you can trust me, im not trying to sell you the SC experience haha

does anyone know when the winter session registration is? im going to retake the calculus placement test on the 15th or 19th. do you think the classes will fill up by those dates?

Vltord:
It depends on the classes you’re trying to get, but you should definitely try to take the placement test as quickly as possible. You may want to consider registering for the math class that you’re supposed to take next in case you don’t pass the placement test, too.

Registration is on the 14th. Yes, the classes will probably be filled by then.

i plan on taking math 180 and my registration date is on the 20th or i will register for trig

Will my registration date always be the same?

Vltord: Calc is almost sure to be full by that time. You can always show up and try to add, though. Make sure to go to Sholars’ class. She added a ton of people when I took her 180 class in a past intersession.

Cyse00: Your registration date gets better as you accumulate units. So it should be getting progressively better as long as you’re passing classes.

I graduated hs in 07, went to a university for one semester, then transferred to a community college until 2010. I basically sucked at life and slacked off the entire time. My last 2 semesters at the community college were good, I pulled it together and got all A’s and B’s, but it didn’t help my overall gpa much. It’s around a 2.0. I moved to CA last year and have been trying to get into classes at mt. sac unsuccessfully. For the winter 2013 semester, registration began nov. 12 and my date wasn’t until the 20th, leaving all classes full.

What I really want to know if what I need to do to get into a decent school ASAP. I’m extremely hesitant about applying to universities, even la Verne, Fullerton or cal poly, because I feel like it would be a waste of money. But I can’t raise my gpa if I can’t get classes. Any insight on what I can do to get things moving? I’m willing to do the work and take as big of a workload as possible to get this done quickly. Any advice/suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Possibly try taking classes that are completely ridiculous and nobody else wants. Winter session is rough because they offer extremely limited classes. Maybe your an athlete? they get priority registration. Good luck, first class is always the hardest

Btw, my first semester there I took a p.e. Class. It seemed to do the trick.

Cool thread! I transferred from Mt. SAC to UCLA for Fall 2012. My bro transferred from Mt. SAC to UCLA for Fall 2011 and my sister is applying to transfer for Fall 2013…also from Mt. SAC. I will be glad to help if anyone has questions! Good luck guys!

@talarose: You’re on the same boat that I was. I graduated HS in 05, went to college for 2 years, did drugs, sucked bad, dropped out, quit drugs, worked full time for 4 years, went back to CC and transferred. As long as you finally know what you want, you can do it! Yes the issue with getting classes at Mt. Sac has been a huge on going issue and is only getting worse. I remember one semester I was trying to get Eng 1C and was not on the waitlist for either classes. What I ended up doing was buying the damn books for both classes, and attending both classes for 2 weeks and keeping up with the reading and hw for 2 of the same class in hopes of getting into one of them. Luckily during week 2, someone dropped it and I was in. Just be persistent and keep trying to add to the classes. Never mind the inconvenience of time, if it fits into your schedule, go check it out. Also it might be a good idea to take some “junk” classes as a last resort if you can’t get any of the classes you need. Accumulating units will at least bump up your priority for next semesters registration. Good luck!

@ Dainese: LOL. I totally agree with what you said about slacking off. First quarter here I was like “all right! I made it! I’m a big bad Bruin now, time to take a load off!”. **** no! It’s 10 times harder here and the weekly reading load is just ridiculous. Mt. Sac was a cake walk compared to now. lol.

Idizzle, how long did it take you to transfer? What was your GPA/major?

Did you work while going to school, or leave your job to go back fulltime?

what other schools did you apply to?

sorry if I sound intrusive, i’m just really curious.

@ Cyse00: No problem at all, I’m happy to help fellow SAC students in any way I can! It took me 3 years to transfer because I was working 45-60 hours a week and taking night classes at SAC. I’m an Anthro major/Global Studies minor, had a 3.49 GPA, which was not that high but my EC’s were pretty decent(some clubs in high school, 8 years work experience) and my PS was really good(dropping out of school, over coming drug abuse, working full time to take care family and going back to school).

My very last semester at Mt. SAC I had to quit my job because the last IGETC requirements that I needed were only offered during the daytime(due to budget cuts I assume), so I was full time with 5 classes my last semester and I got A’s in all of them, finishing strong. Also I assume that they liked my “upward-trend” in grades. I dropped out from Fullerton College in 07 with a 1.5 GPA. So I had to do a lot of Academic Renewal when I started SAC in 09.

Since this was my 2nd chance I wanted to do it right so I applied to 12 schools. You throw a bigger net, you catch more fish right? lol. Also because I was never good at school and since I tried really hard my 2nd time around it was more of a self-validation thing to see where I could get into. I applied to;

CAL- anthro -->Denied
UCLA- anthro -->Accepted
UCI- anthro -->Accepted
UCR- anthro -->Accepted
UCSC- anthro -->Accepted
UCSB- communications -->Accepted
UC Davis- communications -->Accepted
UCSD- communications -->Waitlisted

CSUF- communications -->Accepted
CSULB- communications -->Accepted
CSUN- communications -->Accepted
SFSU- communications -->Accepted

I got accepted to all except for Cal and UCSD. However, I did not formally get rejected from UCSD, I got waitlisted. We were required to write and submit another short essay if we wanted to opt for the UCSD waitlist but since I had already been accepted to UCLA I didn’t bother writing it. So I will never know whether I would have been accepted to SD or not.

My app process was very unconventional and I had some weird situations to deal with given my academic history so hopefully I can help anyone with weird circumstances.

No matter what you do make SURE that you don’t have Eng 1C or Math110 or whatever college level math class you decide to take, IP during the Spring 2013 semester. UC will definitely reject you if that is the case. Since decisions come out DURING Spring semester they cannot make a decision if you haven’t finished the course yet. Last year we were seeing 3.8+ gpa applicants being denied because they had these classes IP during Spring 2012.

Sorry for the long post, hope it helps. Good luck!

Were you in the honors program at sac?

^^ No I wasn’t. I was on that “President’s List” thing for 3 semester which made me eligible but at that point I had already taken most of the regular classes that had Honors program counterparts. You need 8 honors classes to be TAP certified so it was pointless for me to join at that point.

I had to take a crap load of remedial courses since I had been out of school for so long. So once they factored out the remedial course grades that were mostly A’s, my GPA took a dump. I got a C in Hist 1 and Eng 1C and that screwed my GPA.
