How does one get on the presidents list?

Also, do you have a hard time getting classes at UCLA? Will you finish within two years?

@ Cyse00: THe president’s list thing I think you just need at least a 3.5 and SAC will mail you something saying that you’re eligible for the honors program.

So far classes at UCLA are easier to get compared to Mt Sac. Your registration is split up into 2 dates, a 1st pass and 2nd pass. The 1st pass you can register for up to 10 units and during 1st pass courses are closed to people of that major or minor. So in my case, only anthro majors and minors can register for anthro courses during 1st pass. 2nd pass is when you can register for the max amount of units. 2nd pass is basically the left over courses. I actually have my 2nd pass in about 20 minutes. lol

And yeah I will graduate in time.

Thanks …

Oh ya, another thing… Do you find it difficult moving from a semester to a quarter based system?

^^ Yeah most definitely. Semester to quarter was a huge step. It’s already week 9! Two more weeks until the final!

I worked so hard to transfer while at SAC but once I got here I was like “yes! time to take it easy!”. I couldn’t have been more wrong! On average I have about 300+ pgs of reading each week and keeping up with it is a huge task. On top of that you’ve got research papers etc. I’m not doing so great this quarter so I can’t wait until its over so that i can start fresh next quarter. You have to stay on top of things once you transfer. It’s 10 times harder here than it was at SAC. lol

Interesting! thanks, if I have any other questions I’ll be sure to ask.

Anyone else submit their UC and Cal-State app’s? I turned mine in three hours before the deadline…
haha

@ lachesis4687: did you have any server issues with the app going through?

@ iDizzle:

Nope, luckily neither I or any of my friends had any issues with the server even though all of us turned it in within the last 3 hours. It was pretty intense though…I’m definitely not waiting that long for the applications I’m sending in to the rest of the schools I’m applying to.

What schools are you applying to lachesis?

@ lachesis4687: Oh man, good for you than! lol. My sister turned in her transfer app too and I told her not to wait until the last minute. lol

@ iDizzle, i continually get A’s on my essays. I’m curious as to whether or not your grades for your essays held up when you moved to UCLA?

My writing isn’t bad, but it’s not something that “wow’s” me either.

@ Cyse00: I consistently got A’s at SAC too and I turned in my first research paper of the quarter on Friday so we’ll see. But I actually got my ass kicked by midterms this quarter. It wasn’t like SAC where I could study 1-2 days before and ace the test. You have to start studying like a week before so at some point you’ll be studying for all you classes simultaneously. I talked to a counselor here, and like they said “community college grades are over inflated” and now I totally agree.

That’s disappointing, to say the least. Do you have any knowledge of the econ department? Are there really a ton of hot broads there like everyone says?

Econ dept? No. Hot broads? Yes

Ha! nice! How’s the ocr there? I heard the career center is lacking? Have you had an internship?

lol. What’s ocr? No not yet, its still the first quarter for me. I plan to pick up an internship or two before graduation though. Not sure about the career center lacking because there are some big shot recruiters that came to campus this quarter. Last month; Apple, Cisco, Microsoft, Texas Instruments, Facebook, Linkedin, Intel, Amway, Disney, Morgan Stanley and other big shots came for internships and recruiting. Pretty bad ass. lol. UCLA has connects with NBC, Universal and Paramount too.

I didn’t get my first choice major at UCLA, but I still chose to attend because of their affiliations and job resources.

Ocr-on campus recruiting

Cool, those are definitely big names. Can I ask you what your original major was?

Any other investment banks beside Morgan Stanley?

My original major was Comm studies, but it was wayy to hard to get into. avg GPA was 3.94 so I didn’t even try. But honestly the connections and resources that UCLA offers is worth it so I chose to attend anyways. I had my pick of all the other UC and CSU campuses for Comm studies too. Best part is that you don’t need to be THAT major in order to get the internship. My brother goes to UCLA too and he has a friend that is a sociology major but got a public relations internship with NBC through the school.

They are constantly bombarding us with emails about weekly opportunities, internships, recruiters, job search workshops etc. Those financial firms were in the email but Morgan Stanley was the only name I’ve heard of. UCLA students can actually submit a resume to UCLA and they will keep it in a pool which companies affiliated with UCLA have access to. So that’s pretty cool.
