Is it possible to secure internships while at community college?

@Cyse00

I applied under aerospace engineering to UCSD, UCLA, UCD, UCI, Cal Poly Pomona, Cal Poly SLO, and Cal State Long Beach. I also applied to UCSB and UCB under mechanical engineering and am planning to apply to USC and a few other private schools under aerospace engineering.

Sounds exciting! Good luck! May I ask what your GPA is?

@lachesis - impressive! i wish you the best of luck!

@Cyse00

I have a 3.6 gpa at this point. It will probably change though, since I didn’t do as well in Physics 4C as I would’ve liked to.

If I split the physics classes up, will I be at a disadvantage? Or should I do the physics sequence without a break?

@Cyse00

I think you should definitely take the entire sequence together, especially considering much of the material covered in 2A is redone in 4A and a few techniques learned in 4A are used in 4B. Most of the 4C material is completely new, but they expect you to remember much of the theory from 4B when learning some of the newer concepts too.

What other non-science/math class did you take beside eng 1A and 1c?

I took quite a few humanities courses. I started as a psychology major coming into Mt. SAC, so I kinda had to. I took Psych 1A, Soc 1, Phil 5, Rock n roll history, and jazz history. I’m also planning to take Soc 5 during the winter so that I could finish up my IGETC certification.

I thought when you go in the engineering direction you don’t need to do igetc?

@ lachesis4687: Alright! History of Jazz… I took that too. I’ve always been and am a huge jazz fan. Was probably one of the funnest classes I ever took =]

Has anyone been able to access their grades yet? I can’t see my fall grades yet.

^^ I would give it until Friday. SAC usually takes about 2 weeks to release the final grades. My sister who is currently attending SAC says her grades aren’t available yet either.

IDizzle, I have a question. on UCLA Web it says tuition and classes are about 12-13k, now is that per quarter or the entire year?

entire year if you are a CA resident

^^ Yeah, it’s the entire year. I think I paid about ~$4500 per quarter(3 classes), so about ~$13500 for the year(Fall, Winter & Spring). Should be the same for all the UC campuses I believe.

Thanks guys.

Another question, grades… Has your sister gotten them yet? I still can’t see mine. It’s nerve racking waiting for so long.

^^ I have no idea, haven’t talked to her. I don’t think she had to wait though since she had classes that posted grades on moodlerooms

Is moodlesroom the online classes?

Btw, how did your first research paper come out? Did mt.sac prepare you well?

Moodlerooms is kind of like blackboard. Some of the classes use it, and some don’t. UCLA uses their own version of moodlerooms/blackboard to post PDF supplemental reading and post grades(if the professor decides to).

My first research paper went quite well but I wouldn’t call them full blown research papers. The “research” was actually more fieldwork where I had to do field research and write a paper on that. So there was really no right or wrong answers for that paper. My other two research papers only required very limited source materials(only from the textbooks) so I did not have to spend long hours in the library swimming in books or browsing online databases.

I think Mt. SAC prepared me as well as it could have but the rest is on you. After finishing my first quarter at UCLA I realize how inflated Mt. SAC grades are and it was up to me to put in the extra effort. Especially since there are like 200-400 people in the lectures, the professors don’t give a **** if you show up or not. I admit it was hard to go to lectures sometimes just because it wasn’t “mandatory”.

Also a warning for you guys when you start at the UCs next Fall. You will receive emails from classmates claiming that they lost, or broke their laptops and will ask you for all the notes. I received TONS of these emails this quarter and every time I received one it was “conveniently” before each exam. They usually go something like “Hi, I’m in your class, I broke/lost my laptop, my harddrive crashed, can you send me all the notes from the beginning of the quarter/all the notes since the last exam”? LOL!
