OFFICIAL National Merit Semifinalist Cutoff Scores 2007

Can anyone else confirm that TX is 215? If so, I’m APPALLED!

are you certain on the 215 for Texas? We are waiting to hear…215 is my child’s score and we were keeping our fingers crossed. Was that your childs score as well?

Wemel- if it’s really 207 this year, I will love you forever. This has made my day.

Take these numbers with a grain of salt. There will likely be corrections along the way.

AZ <= 214
CA = 217 -2
FL <= 212
IL = 213 -5 (huge drop, this is questionable)
IN <= 214
LA = 207 -2
MO <= 221
NY <=223
OH <= 211
OK = 207 -1
TX = 215 -2

Hi, TexasBandDad and Predator, could you make sure the Texas Cutoff is 215? I am anxious about more information on the Texas cutoff this year. Is there anybody else from Texas know what the cutoff? Please don’t just read it, input your info. Thanks.

The NMSC uses the PSAT/NMSQT as the initial screen of over 1.4 million program entrants. In the spring of the junior year, NMSC determines a national Selection Index qualifying score (critical reading + math + writing skills scores) for recognition, which is calculated each year to yield students at about the 99th percentile (top 50,000 highest scorers). This score increased from 202 the prior year to 203 (out of a possible 240) for the 2007 Program (2005 PSAT/NMSQT). Notification was mailed to school principals in April 2006 regarding students who scored at or above this level. The principals then notified their students of their status. These students are then given the opportunity to identify two colleges or universities to which they would like NMSC to send their scores.-wiki

I got a 216 on my PSAT in junior year in my high school but my principal did not “notify me of my status” I didnt get to choose two colleges or w/e

Is there soem sorta mistake or did is tehre something I don’t know about this process

If the principal failed to notify you, then he/she made a mistake. You should know your status. You obviously have made at least commended, and depending on your state, semifinalist. It is too late now to notify the 2 schools you are interested in, but that is really no big deal. Pretty much all of the schools know who the commended students are and you should be receiving tons of mail. If you cannot get anything from your school, contact the National Merit office.

if i have a shiddy PSAT score( o it’s 218 forgot) and a good SAT score (2310)
and I make it to semi. Would the better SAT score outweight the shiddy PSAT score?

Semifinalist status is based on PSAT score only (as viewed against a state cutoff). Your SAT score is only considered when advancing from semifinalist to finalist status.

thegodofrice- what state are you from?
For most states, a 218 is more than good enough to advance to semi, but for some it’s far below.

michigan? anyone?

Shutterbug312 - am positive score is at least 215 as this was the lowest score of the confirmed semi-finalists at our school. Unlikely it would be any lower, I would think. Congrats.

Missouri’s cutoff score is definitely NOT 221. People are saying that it is because I said in another thread that I’m a semifinalist in Missouri and that I got a 221. There’s someone at my school who is also a semifinalist, but got a lower score than me. As for the actual cutoff score, I don’t know. I think it was in the 213-215 range last year, so it can’t be too far outside of that range this year.

how come for california there are two different scores i’m seeing? 217 and 219? hahha important for me, i got 217.

Correct, Lethal Lurker, the post says that it is less than or equal to 221

Danielle, 217 is this years’s. 219 is last year’s.

anyone know the cutoff for minnesota?

thanks for the update on the Texas score cutoff. That is great news!

This is for PSAT CUTOFFS? Wow… I just practiced recently (1st time) and got 209 =]

=] Grats.

So, what is everyone writing their essay on?

Anyone know if a 205 will make it in Idaho?
