So… can we appeal out decision?
@bw68apply Unfortunately not, they mentioned that in the letter.
I wish we could! I wasn’t accepted either.
ACCEPTED <3 Guys if you got in join the NU Quad on the app quad, everyone’s super chill and friendly
Also when will be getting financial aid packages cause NU is mad expensive =; and when is Wildcats Day?!?!
To those who were rejected: best of luck on ivy day! You will all make it! If you’re an international, this is not the best school to go to anyway. Keep moving forward!
^ sorry, but why would you say that? I’m an international at Northwestern and NU is pretty good to us.
our son was rejected from the theater department. he had been deferred, worked really hard first semester and got all a’s while being the lead in the fall musical at his school. he is taking 5 ap classes. sat was 2100 total, and act was 33. his friend got in. she had lower gpa but prob higher test scores and not nearly the accomplishments in drama/voice. he is quite depressed about it, and i can’t say i blame him. he feels a little strung along, but i suppose deferral doesn’t mean a better chance at reg decision time. i think wanting something so badly for so long can creep into a tinge of entitlement. he feels he tried his hardest, and it just wasn’t good enough. i tell him that we will never know what they were looking for, and why they deferred him to only reject him after performing amazingly first semester…and that he will move on (after a few days of serious mourning) and end up in a place he will thrive. ah well- this lesson of life not being fair is a tough one!!
Has anyone heard anything about isp? Or is that coming out later?
Rejected. 4.6 weighted GPA, 34 ACT, good EC’s, showed plenty of interest by touring, going to the interview, and attending 3 summer sessions at NU’s CTD! My parents have decided not to send my younger siblings to Northwestern’s summer programs anymore (similar programs are found near my home and it definitely did not help with admissions).
Waitlisted. SAT 2380. SAT II - Math 2 - 800, Physics - 800, AP Cal BC - 5, Econ Micro AP - 5. IB predicted score 44. Lots of extra cal. I don’t know what more could I have done. This is brutal
Waitlisted…2200 SAT,34 ACT,GPA 3.9, lots of EC’s and stellar recommendations…international student
My d was accepted but we still didn’t get an official email from NU. She just went to the portal. Anyone else have this situation?
Accepted. Super scored SAT 2080, 3.9 unweighted and an international student at an American boarding school. I have pretty good ECs I think. I got ino CAS. Anyone know when financial aid stuff comes in?
@Ambitious19 That is so so kind of you to say, thank you!
@Neurogirl07 I believe they’re just rolling admissions so it could be anytime in the next few weeks. I applied right on their deadline… lol. I believe that was Feb 2nd. I know that my stats are very well above average for them so I think they’d be able to look past my semi-average EC’s. I think my essay was quite good.
@danichen Ugh nooo!
We talked to each other quite a bit in January about it, what a shame. I’m sorry. I’m really curious to know if any other deferred applicants got in…
@Lawstreet I haven’t gotten an email either, but I was rejected (but I still should’ve gotten en email…)
@Jamesesesess yeah…i wonder what percentage of the deferred applicants got accepted
wish you the best!!
Haven’t gotten an email yet… how do you log on to the portal? @Lawstreet @Jamesesesess
Reading through this thread- I think people are overlooking some of the things that make the most difference with highly selective schools like NW. Most all of the applicants are smart enough, and have the work ethic to do well academically at the school. As a result, GPA and test scores play a much lower roll in getting accepted or not- it’s more like a preliminary check mark than something that has a big deciding influence. Sure, it’s better to have higher scores, but not as much so as at big state schools or other places like that.
In my opinion, for NW and most all of the other super selective schools, it comes down to a few things- 1 is your essays. 2 Is your extracurriculars and what you do that makes you stand out. A lot of people are in a Varisty sport, tech club, NHS, etc. So just doing a bunch of those doesn’t exactly make you stand out (which is the goal of an application). You have to do something really unique, that’s what colleges like NW are looking for. 3 is your demonstrated interest- did you visit the school, do an interview, see a school rep who visited, etc. With RD those are really important because they would rather not accept students who are not going to attend, and people with great stats are likely to have options. I theorize that’s why there’s a surge in ED acceptances, because they know for sure those students have NW as their #1 choice. And even then part of it may just be luck. The sheer volume of applicants for such a small number of spots assures that.
For those who got in- Congrats! For those who didn’t, don’t stress to much. There’s plenty of other great colleges out there, and how you do in life is a lot more dependent on you and the work you put into it than the college you attend.
Rejected at UChicago but accepted at Northwestern…I can see where that rivalry comes in lol
@ThatFellow…‘With RD those are really important because they would rather not accept students who are not going to attend, and people with great stats are likely to have options’
Isn’t this a catch-22 situation? If every top school ‘perceives’ the same way, those highly qualified students are jinxed!
100% agree with @NorthwesternDad. Unfortunately, that seems to be what is going on everywhere. Universities trying to protect their yields want to be damn sure the students they accept really enroll and hence making decisions based on what “other” schools might decide for you.
