accepted in statistics, yesterday I was waitlisted at UChicago lol
@jacobpilawa I don’t think your counselor gave you the best advice, honestly
Most schools of engineering want to see one LOR from a Math/Science teacher. Oh boy …
Did you apply everywhere as an engineering major?
Good Luck, @jacobpilawa
Crossing my fingers :)>-
@jacobpilawa For the record, I don’t think it would’ve hurt to have at least one letter of recc from a science/math teacher, regardless of writing ability (as long as it wouldn’t be dismal of course). That being said, wow, your accomplishments are stellar and you should be proud of them regardless. Northwestern may not have been for you, but whatever school you end up at will be lucky to have you.
@kittymom Nearly everywhere, year. Either Engineering or Physics or Engineering Physics.
This has me really nervous now.
Guys this is so frustrating. I cannot view my decision because my PIN is not working. Was anyone given log in info before this?? It says my account does not exist.
Rejected in Economics, waitlisted at University of Chicago yesterday too.
@jacobpilawa - Although it’s very disappointment, it is not the end of anything. One thing that bothered me was that you said that you would be going to some local place. Someone with your credentials ought to be going somewhere that matches your individual talents. Stay focused. This process is crazy. People that are accepted to one U are rejected at other and viceversa? How do you make sense of it all. Vanderbilt is coming up… keep the faith!!!
@yalebound2020 I don’t have that much faith in myself anymore. I thought at least I would get waitlisted at Northwestern, but perhaps I am overestimating my worth. I really appreciate your kind words.
Got accepted into McCormick! 2300 SAT, 3 800 SAT II’s, some nice essays and LORs. Seeing a lot of people here who got rejected with even better credentials than me, really humbles me to know that I’ve been admitted. Good luck to anyone who’s still waiting on more decisions!
@cutters wait, VANDERBILT?
@jacobpilawa Let’s no panic. Too late in the game for that.
Selective engineering schools are very hard to get into, so any little blemish/thing they see in your application can be magnified.
It might just be a coincidence. Maybe the situation has nothing to do with that. Wait and see.
How many more to go?
I got rejected. Not what I expected
@kittymom1102 I have a couple more schools to go. I already got deferred from Brown ED, so that will most likely be a rejection. I have Williams, Vanderbilt, and Dartmouth left, but I doubt I will be accepted at any of those seeing as they are about as competitive/more competitive than Northwestern.
My safe schools that I already got into are too expensive for me, so my last option is to hopefully get into Hamilton College with some decent money, otherwise I’ll have to take a gap year and work.
SAT 2370
SAT2 M 790, B 800, Chem 790
GPA UW 3.90 Weighted 4.4
By time application 8 AP
Total 14AP
National AP Scholar
Decent Art Portfolio supplement
Good EC
No interview (too late to book one) – could be this the reason?
W
Waitlisted, not what I was expecting for.
Was anyone emailed with log in info before ? Like did anyone already set up a portal?
@jacobpilawa Because of the nature (artsy and liberal arts) of most of the schools that you mentioned (maybe except Vandy), I think you could be better off there.
They will appreciate LOR from humanites/art teachers a little bit more than traditional engineering schools. Brown could have rejected you from the beginning.
I don’t think your odds are as bad in that STEM pool, you know, we’re not talking about MIT or Caltech.
Stay positive!
@jacobpilawa u should’ve applied to UMich, UCBerkeley, and Carnegie (but I don’t know what u are looking for). Would’ve been matches for you. I get sick whenever I see a student like you get degraded.
And yeah I agree, you should have had atleast one teacher rec from a STEM teacher no matter how their recommendation would be.
I hate to be that guy, but is anyone else dying to know what decision @amoore001 got?
