****OFFICIAL Northwestern CLASS OF 2020 Discussion Thread****

@kittymom1102 - Are you a counselor?

Friendly reminder that not getting into a “prestigious” school isn’t the end of the world - especially for undergrad. It’s what you DO in college that counts in the long run, not where you go. Plus, you can always apply as a transfer or grad student if you still really want to go to said school.

yo, did anyone else not get a decision yet?

@yalebound20200 I wish!

Not at all. I’m just a kittymom :smiley:

@16elir - I am keeping my fingers crossed. We will be able to evaluate the truthfulness of the holistic approach.

@kittymom1102 - And who is Kitty? My daughter! (FLETCH)

My son (well-qualified) rejected. Very disappointing, but I know he will find his place and thrive.

Congrats to those accepted.

To those denied, it is just that - a DENIAL of your application, not a REJECTION of you as a person. I know it may be difficult to understand, but you WILL wind up somewhere, and YOU WILL make of life what YOU make it. Wherever you end up, find good people to make friends with, pursue your passions and interests, attend to your studies, have fun and enjoy your college years. You will forget your present woes, and you will find a wealth of good awaiting you!

Everybody works hard, and everybody from here deserves to get in. I think the most helpful thing to think of is that this is not a rejection but a redirection. We may have thought that NU was the place for us, but I guess it’s not, and that’s okay. If anything this just motivates me to work harder and apply myself at whatever school I end up at!

Ughh has anyone been able to find a waitlist acceptance rate?

New logo: “Take a Northwestern Direction… or maybe don’t.” :))

@jacobpilawa Go somewhere and knock it out of the park, which you are obviously capable of doing! You can try and transfer after year one if it doesn’t feel right. Did you try Purdue? Excellent engineering school with world wide respect and connections.

@ebandflo Didn’t try Purdue – it is too heavy of an engineering school for me. I liked the schools that I applied to because there was a greater focus on, as Northwestern says, “whole brain engineering.” I want to be able to take a variety of humanities classes, which is why I liked Northwestern so much.

Oh well. I appreciate your kind words.

did northwestern send out emails yet?

@VaishS According to Niche a little over 40% of waitlisted applicants (1307 of 3135) accept their spot on the waitlist, and about 12% of them (155) enroll. So the chances aren’t as bleak as they are for UChicago, but still not great. I think it mostly comes down to chance and probably varies a lot by program.

got in :+) cannot figure out how to view the financial aid package for the life of me though

Deferred and then waitlisted. Devastated.

I feel so bad for those who are beating themselves up over this rejection. You’re all so smart…look at the posts; many super qualified kids didn’t get in. There is a level of subjectivness to these apps that no one can quite put their finger on. Grieve for a moment and then regroup and move forward with all of your skills and determination. Good luck to all of you!

I got in : )))))))

Daughter, Accepted! International student. Great extra-curriculars. Big on Dance, Music, Service, IB predicted 42/43 pointer.

@LordBendtner @singaindia @wifigirl LITTTT congrats to everyone!
