@firestorm98 TBH, it depends on how much they want you. Last year, they sent me I think two traveling gifts in the mail because they offered to fly me out for free to visit for Wildcat Days in April even though I’m not low income. For some students, they get nothing.
Is there any downside to accepting a position on the waitlist? It’s completely non-committal, correct? I have a student who says they have to accept the terms of the waitlist but when they click on the terms, there is no document explaining so they just want to be sure.
@petercsauer @elc2435 My daughter applied ED to Northwestern 2 years ago and was crushed when she was rejected as was I, since not only am I an alum, but I’ve been a member of the Alumni Admission Council for over 10 years as well as a donor for more than 3 decades. She is now a soph at UMich and could not be happier with where she ended up. She feels academically challenged by her courses, finds her fellow classmates to be extremely bright and intelligent, loves UM’s standing in the Big Ten and finds Ann Arbor accessible, filled with activity and very urbane. She definitely feels she ended up at the right place, so have faith you will too.
For those tracking stats, the trend for NU has been to fill more and more of their incoming classes with ED applicants. This year, I was told by Admissions that 50% of the class of 2020 was filled by ED for a total projected class of 2000 students. Assuming they offered admission to twice as many students as they had spots to fill, I would assume approximately 2000-2100 acceptances were extended RD acceptances. NU like most schools these days, will then go to their waitlist for any open positions after May 1st.
@CaliCash - So Wildcat days are not free airfare? How do you make them so… or is it just that they “really want you?” Thanks in advance.
@yalebound2020
I got an offer for a 3 day paid visit in April when I tried to rsvp on the student portal, said info would come in the mail and over email.
Where did you find the link to Wildcat Days on the portal? D was accepted to Bienen, planning on going March 30-31 for studio visits and want to see if other activities are offered. Thanks in advance.
Accepted
congrats to those who also got in!
@yalebound2020 A few days after getting accepted, I got an email offering me a free flight because I was one of the top admits. There’s nothing you can really do to get that offer. You either do, or you don’t. So only a few students get offered the free flight. Anyone can go to Wildcat days though. For the students offered a free flight, they coordinate through the university and also get to spend time with host on campus overnight. It’s not overnight for anyone else.
@songbirdmama Link to RSVP to wildcat days was on the admitted students website: http://admit.northwestern.edu ![]()
Did anyone else still not get an email?
@CaliCash Do they also arrange for transportation to pick you up from the airport? It would make sense but I just want to make sure. There wasn’t any information in the email about how to arrange the flight.
@Peggy1897 Thanks. She was so excited she never scrolled down far enough to see it!
@calicash - what do you know… I just got invited all expenses paid because I am poor!
S did too. I guess being dirt broke has its advantages!
@Alamom @yalebound2020 did Northwestern straight up offer the trip all-expenses paid? I recently got an email that said “We’ll do what we can to make it financially possible for you to join us during Wildcat Days.”
Is it true that we’re all getting t-shirts?
@pokerworld on the admitted student site, click on “register for wildcat days”. It mentioned it there first. They sent a follow up through email.
My daughter is disappointed in her denial for admittance to the Class 2020 for Northwestern University. She wanted to study musical theater and liked the kids she met when she toured. This is a competitive school to get into…
@Stella65 i hope she doesn’t stress too much. I was rejected from northwestern, then accepted to mit for engineering (!!). everything turns out the way it is supposed to in the end.
@mitoops Damn, that’s amazing! Glad it worked out for you in the end.
