****OFFICIAL Northwestern CLASS OF 2020 Discussion Thread****

i received my FA today and ??? they’re saying that my expected contribution is almost double my EFC from FAFSA. i hope they made a mistake, because if they’re really expecting that much, northwestern is definitely not an option.

@eyesight2020. Hi, I received my FA a few days ago and my EFC is $9,500 while my FAFSA EFC is $18. I’ll be filing an appeal. You can find it at: http://undergradaid.northwestern.edu/eligibility-and-policies/appeal-an-aid-decision.html.
Good luck! I hope NU will be an option for both of us.

As a freshman looking to live on north campus, which residential hall do I want to live in? I’ve been looking at the brochures and information online but I can’t make a lot of sense out of it. Are there some with more/better amenities than others?

@ohliveeyah Choose Elder or Bobb. For a more tame scene north campus, choose Sargent.

@CaliCash. What Residential College would you recommend on South Campus for a guy who’s not a big party fan? Is Chapin good?

@DominicBayer There are a lot of quiet Residential Colleges south campus. There is Chapin, Willard (which is moving to 1835 Hinman, PARC, and West Fairchild. Chapin is fairly social. It has a rating of 3.8/5 whereas Bobb is 4.3/5. West Fairchild has a rating of 2.0, so it’s pretty dead there, but for Medill students, it’s a pretty convenient location.

@CaliCash. Thanks for the tips!

@CaliCash do you know where the MMSS kids usually dorm? I’d assume somewhere south campus, but it seems like there are also a lot of quant econ / math kids in Ayers, and i’m not really sure where to put as my top housing choice. Any suggestions?

@1d51jklad1 I’ve never even heard of MMSS lol.

FWIW: I personally wouldn’t want to live with a bunch of people who I will be taking a lot of classes with. I would feel like I need a break.

@CaliCash Do you know anything about the new residential communities (Shepard and 1838 Chicago)? I can’t find anything about them online and I’m still trying to find a 5th housing choice. Also I’m pretty sure most of my classes are going to be on north campus, so do you think living in Allison is worth the 15 minute walk everyday?

I don’t know anything about them really. Don’t worry about your 5th housing choice. It’s unlikely that you wouldn’t get into at least your first 3.

Also, anyone coming for Wildcat Days?

@CaliCash I’ll be there! I’ve been at NU twice for different events, but never actually been on a campus there or been able to observe my surroundings so I’m really excited.

NU2020, WHERE YOU AT?

@CaliCash. Do you know when they’ll be releasing the 2016-17 course catalog?

@CaliCash They are all on Facebook finding roommates etc!

@DominicBayer If you have access to Caesar, it should be there. It’s there for current students. Although I’m not sure why you need to worry about that now. Nothing is set in stone for Winter 2017 or Spring 2017.

@CaliCash. Thanks, I was just curious.

Wondering if you have any info on the new residential college being formed with 1838 Chicago and Shepard. What is the “theme”?

@songbirdmama They will be turning into a residential community, not college.

This link will be really helpful for the housing selection process.

Is it possible to get into Northwestern ED with a 1310 on the new SAT? I have really strong extracurriculars leadership positions and very good grades plus I do independent research on a topic that interests me which is something I know Cornell looks for in engineering students but I don’t know about NU. Northwestern is my absolute dream school and I am taking the SAT test again in June but I want to know where I stand now with a 1310 (equivalent of 1960 on old sat).
