** Official Northwestern Class of 2021 Discussion Thread **

@Seacoast No, I applied to Northwestern as well. Now, to answer my question

Yes you should be worried B-)

@TheShortSon I did hear that many do not receive requests for interviews…that was here on cc. I will tell you that when I toured last year they said no interviews unless an alum is in the local area so there might not be anyone available in your area or with your specific major in your area. I wouldn’t worry about it…most don’t get interviews. Now stop following me! :-j

Has anyone heard of anyone getting in with a 30 ACT regular decision?

@audrella yes definitely. especially if you have a hook. but you’re not ruled out even if you don’t have a hook (grades are more important than scores for nu)

@allima What do they consider hooks? My sister currently attends McCormick at NU but I am not a minority and my GPA is 3.8.

hey guys, lurker here. Was hoping on some feedback on my app; sorry for the chance me but heres the link:

@rhhssenior22 I took a look at your Stats. Very similar to my D’s. I definitely think you have what it takes to be successful at NW. You have pretty good EC’s. It does get nerve wrecking when you get a couple of deferrals or denials. My D applied to 10 schools and got into 8 of them and just waiting on NW and one other. Since you are in the Chicago area, have you considered Loyola Engineering? She got into Purdue engineering- no merit, UW - no merit, UNC- grant. She has top scholarships from Loyola, DePaul, Butler, IU, Baylor. You applied to several reach schools. I learned from my oldest who did the same and the yield was fair at best. Told the youngest to pick 2 in state, 2 reach schools and a variety of private schools. UNC was a lucky draw as they only admit 15% OOS. Good luck with your apps and by all means, if you want to get off wait lists be sure and contact your regional reps and update them regularly of your progress and new awards. I think the key to scholarships is to get the apps in early for maximum consideration.

@prep4col thanks for the feedback. Im actually from kansas and made a mistake of not applying early to any safeties. Right now im waiting on 11 more schools so i have a lot of decisions left but hopefully i get decent aid packages at some.

@audrella Hooks can be anything from under represented minorities to overcoming challenges or having a unique talent. It’s how you sell yourself to schools.

Does anyone know if getting into Bienen can help a student get into Weinberg also for dual degree applicants? Or are both applications read and decided separately?

Sounds like a great question for an admissions rep. Wouldn’t think you can admit to more than one school initially.

@lanabanana99 The decisions are supposedly made independent of each other. I applied early decision dual degree Bienen/Weinberg, got rejected from Bienen and deferred from Weinberg, so I’m still waiting to hear back. The email said that the Bienen decision has no bearing on my admission to Weinberg!

@mimimo7890 30 ACT is low for NU but it is not the only factor and also depending on other factors on your application.

woah i didn’t know this thread existed! hi guys, i’m also applying to northwestern

Thanks for asking that question @lanabanana99 ! I was wondering the same thing. I know they said the decisions are determined separately when I went for audition day (I’m piano major btw), but that, typically, those who get into Bienen also get into their other school of choice. Good luck!

Decisions came out thursday the 17th last year… do you guys think that it’ll be thursday (16th) this year?

what that’s so soon
i’m not ready i hope not

@vicenty99 High chance, since NU usually releases decisions in the third week of March. However, Class of 2019 received their decision on March 24th, the 4th Friday. So definitely during that week.
