@chicagolak23 about the transfer of 150. that is low, lol, but they would most likey admit more because other accepted transfers might choose a different school.

@ chicagolak23: Well, you should definitely detail that to them in your essays. Fill them in on why a bright high school student had to go to CC. Always fill them in on stuff like that.

For instance, my HS GPA was terrible, so I explained to them, honestly, why my grades were so poor. Honestly it was laziness. I want them to know that I am far from stupid, I was just really lazy in HS. My college grades prove that I’ve gotten over that slump.

@cluelessbelle I was thinking to include that within my Educational interruption. Explain the unemployment of my father and as a result, I had to work.

There was also a drastic decline in my grades second semester of my senior year. I was ranked number 5-6 from fresh-first semester of sr yr. But dropped to 13 second semester.

Do you think it would be appropriate to include that portion in my education interruption?

@ chicagolak23: Yes, definitely include that. Let them know why you had to take a break and why you came back. It lets them know you’re determined to go to school

Do you think applying to NU schools/departments that aren’t very popular might increase odds of acceptance? Seems as though if you are qualified enough and they have plenty of seats open (and do not have hundreds of other well qualified apps), that it might help.

what do you guys think?

I’m a freshman at Mizzou, looking to major in journalism. I applied early decision last year and was denied and am thinking of applying as a transfer, hearing that it’s easier to get in as a transfer.
Here are my stats, let me know what you guys think:
ACT: 28
High school GPA: 3.8 unweighted
MU freshman GPA: 3.7
Credits at the end of freshman year: 38
AP Credit: US Government
High school extracurriculars: National Honor Society, 3 years of football, intramural basketball, spirit board, theatre sound crew
College extracurricular: Rowing Club
Work: Intramural soccer officiating
I probably don’t have sufficient college extracurriculars but I think I might have a chance. I wish to apply by May 1st or spend another year at Mizzou to get my GPA and extracurriculars up. Insight would be appreciated.

I’ve seen people recommend that if you don’t get in as a first-year, you should wait to apply as a second-year (rising Junior), with more on your college transcript. I don’t know if that’s true because transfer admissions seem like a crapshoot regardless.

I’m also not sure if transferring is easier than applying as a first-year. Last year, for example, they only accepted about 10% of all transfer applicants. I think they took 15-20 of RD, and probably more of ED.

Anyone know when/how we receive admission decisions? Can’t stand waiting! Ohh well, just have to suffice with hitting refresh every 5 min.

@eriqp123

The application is due today. So, we’re probably not going to hear back for another month or so. I’d say June at the earliest.

According to last year’s thread, people started to get their decisions in early June.

thanks. It’s a long time to wait compared to most other universities.

I just submitted my app lol.

Good luck to those who applied!

wait im confused is admissions rolling? does it hurt you to submit your app later?

This has come up a couple of times. As far as I understand it: STARTING tomorrow, they will make decisions for people for whom they have complete applications. So in other words, the person who was notified that his or her application was complete in March has no greater advantage than the person who got the notification today.

Ok thanks. I don’t really think I’m going to get in anyways haha.

How long did it take for any of you to receive an email stating that your application was complete? I submitted mine the 26th and have not heard much from NU.

@transferkid44 I got a reply the day after I had submitted my application which was also on the 26th.

@anontransfer

is it true that they wait until they have your final grades for spring?

Yes, Northwestern wants to look at a full academic year of coursework.
