Wait-listed…

Rejected - 34 ACT 3.83 GPA and wrote about prejudice against atheists, agnostics.

Deferred from EA and than rejected. 3.9, 32ACT, here is a few of my essays for the memories . Glad the sun will rise tomorrow, as will I with the same passion and love for life.

Take a risk:
There are 4 important pillars in my life – God, Family, Community, and Personal Growth. Without the first three the fourth pillar won’t stand, making my structure falter; however when all of these essential pillars come together amazing things can happen.
I have seen this first hand, with my Grandmother being healed from Stage 4 Lung Cancer through prayer, through the support of the leaders in the community writing letters of recommendation which allowed me to get in to XXXX XXXXX High School, and my parents driving me to my extra-curricular activities and always being at my functions whether school specific or athletic.
I do believe Notre Dame offers these 4 pillars and I would love to be apart of your family, community, and part of the growth. Notre Dame can’t make me perfect nor can I make it perfect. I do think I can help make it a better University; as it can make me a better person.
When you stop searching for solutions and growth, you decline. I need you and you need me, so yes, I proudly accept this acceptance to Notre Dame and I can’t wait for the support and growth we will share.

Challenge you over come:
“YOU’RE SCREWED!”
Not the words I expected to hear in my first week of high school – especially at a Catholic School.
I attended a public IB Middle School and would go to life teen weekly at my church and loved it. During my 8th grade year I asked my parents if I could go to XXXX XXXXX High School – a Catholic High School 15 miles away. They said yes. Whew, I got in! Life is good; making new friends, and seeing kids that I played sports against at different points in time.
As I proudly sat in Mr. Collins’ English class, he laid my first graded paper on my desk. My excitement went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows. I knew I would not always get ‘A’s, but an ‘F’ was never on my radar. With my heart racing and emotions running through me, it was there I asked myself, who are you? I’m confident, positive, and not afraid of any challenge. I made my move like taking the basketball to the hoop, to ask Mr. Collins where he thought I fell short and what I needed to work on. My walk to his desk included some hand trembling, but I never allowed negative thoughts to enter my mind. Another girl and I reached his desk at the same time. We were greeted with, “YES?” I said “I’m not comfortable with an ‘F’ on this paper, and I was wondering where I fell short, before I could finish the girl said me too. Mr. Collins responded quickly, “Did you attend PUBLIC SCHOOL?” We both nodded our heads. “YOU’RE SCREWED!” what??? Did he just say that??? “Mr. Collins what do you mean?” “Your school didn’t prepare you for a college prep high school.” (At this point the whole class is listening and watching the interaction) NO! I will not take that – are my thoughts, as I walked back to my desk prouder than I walked to his desk; with my head high and a feeling of peace within me. This wouldn’t be the first time I would have to work twice as hard to show my excellence, but the first in a classroom instead of sports. My XXXXX confidence was ready to shine. If you allow people to put you in a box you will be stuck there. My challenge was to educate Mr. Collins, don’t judge people until you learn about them and then if you feel the need, you can assume, but that’s not productive either.
I finished my freshman year with straight ‘A’s. As a senior, I am in the top 10% of my class and will graduate with honors including being a 3-sport varsity athlete for 4 years and 500 volunteer hours. If you are going to try to put me in a box – you have sold yourself short to a great individual and friendship. As I’m a friend to all.
Screwed??? I don’t think so!

LOI:
Call Me….

Notre Dame is the place that grabbed me and hugged me as I stepped on campus. How could I tell? After our visit, I had too much life to get in the car and drive to Purdue. So I asked my parents if I could run around the lakes and campus. I covered more ground in that time than ever before and didn’t even realize it. I was enjoying the atmosphere, the glow, or let’s say the spirit. Two things I never experienced before; Runner trots and listening to the band play The Victory March Song while in the porta potty.

The service, research, education and the faith as a community personify whom I am today, who I will be tomorrow, and how I want to live my life. This is why Notre Dame is my school.
Making the world a better place through community service is something, for me, which I seek out. The community engagement at Notre Dame is outstanding, with above 80% of students participating in service, and is what I want to participate in and be part of. I volunteer at a local museum, and constantly do charitable works with my community, church and school, including mission trips to El Salvador and this year to the Dominican Republic
The in depth amazing research done by Professor Jumper and his work on unsteady aerodynamics excite me. I am interested in the materials used on planes and rockets and how they react to different mediums. This is fascinating research done in the Aerospace department and will build upon my preexisting knowledge of what Aerospace engineering can create. The state of the art laboratories like the NDTL and the Engineering Machine Shops will be an asset to my education.

As a Catholic whose faith is very important to me, I find Notre Dame to be equal to the peace and comfort of my parents’ home; a place where I will live in harmony and allow my faith to flourish. Having my faith grow is going to be amazing, but the diversification of the school will allow my worldview to grow through meeting new people who have had far different views and experiences than me, who can teach me something about life that I have never experienced or been educated about before this encounter.
Notre dame is my new home and my peers are my new family for life. I’m excited to meet my roommate and learn from him, along with all my brothers and sisters. I’m committed, are you? Don’t be shy, you got this…. ACCEPTED. Call me at 18:42 and I’ll help you if you are nervous.

Sincerely,

Congratsssss to all who are accepted!!!
