Official NYU 2011 Transfer Thread

@actor1991: I was rejected from BU as well. kinda surprised. hopefully tisch doesn’t feel the same way

@danny
no they were not up before…wahh

@LondonKim, actually I was talking in terms of only tuition being cheaper than others. NYU’s tuition is a little bit under $40k, like 38900 something I think… while most other private universities in the top 50 is gonna be 40k+. The only thing is that NYU tends to be a bit less generous in financial aid, so I guess you could say it is a bit more expensive if you see it that way. But for those who don’t qualify for finaid anyway, I suppose it doesn’t matter.

And for god’s sake, you’re in NYC where you can walk anywhere and shop anywhere – why would you want a meal plan?

@slickguy Totally agree with you on that, I live in NYC too and there are like 50 restaurants on every block! You don’t need to eat crappy school food (or pay for the crappy school food) when you can get great food (mostly cheap too) all over the city! Plus NYU is in the center of great cheap food heaven! :smiley: Pho and St. Marks anyone?

@thegreatperhaps – Actually, I am still waiting to hear from CAS

I emailed the lady in the acceptance letter about studying abroad. She said that London best fits my major (physics) even though I would much rather go to Accra or Paris.

Bleggghhh

Does anyone know if you can apply to NYU twice in one year? I’m thinking of applying to CAS Economics for a January transfer, and if I don’t get in, Stern for fall. Can I do that?

Saying that, it’s unlikely that I’ll get accepted for Stern if I got rejected for CAS.

giantmidget- I’m not 100% sure on this, but I think it’s ok to apply multiple times a year. I have a friend who applied for both Spring and Fall semesters for the same school, so I’d assume you could apply multiple times too.

I just got this message when trying to check my status/credits:

Um, yikes?

@coolio: Someone on hear said they loved The Towers. So, I’m going to give it a shot. I just really want to find my own roommates. Since some will be attending schools in NYC (even if they’re not NYU), I figured why not try my luck.

On the topic of food, my NYU tour guide told me the food is really good there. It has to be because NYU has to compete with local restaurants, etc.

bella, thanks. If I end up going to the towers, we should definitely get in contact.

And I don’t care about the quality of food. The price is really the most important thing in my opinion.

I know that meal cards from NYU work at places like Starbucks so it’s not a bad option, just depends on personal preference.

If I get into NYU, I’ve been looking at the towers as an alternative to nyu housing (because it is such a crapshoot and so expensive)… Only problem with the towers is the lessened likelihood of having nyu kids with you

edit: and the fact that you can’t seem to have alcohol even if you are over 21… that is pretty lame.

heah, what are the Towers? Where are they? Link? thanks for the help.

@coolio: The price is most important. I don’t believe in “dream” schools anymore. I want a “reality” school. What school is going to get me where I need to be without bankrupting me!?

@Lauren229: You’re more likely to meet students in the classroom or in clubs/organizations you join.

@kayf: ccnytowers.com Check it out.

Haha I agree, though NYU is gonna be hard on my [future] wallet. But I’m so miserable at my current school, I don’t think it’s worth wasting the supposed “most fun yeras of my life” being so unhappy.

I wouldn’t even mind being around kids from other colleges at the towers, really. I mean, being with other NYU students isn’t THAT important, as long as I’m with people my age. And obviously there are gonna be NYU students there anyway so it’s not all bad.

I received my rejection email from NYU Stern School of Business on May 12, 2011. I was kind of discouraged by this decision, but didn’t surprise.

My stats: I’m a CUNY BARUCH student major accounting
transfer to NYU as a rising junior
completed 62 credits with 3.8 GPA when I submitted my application (Sophomore)
SAT Scores: Math-680, Reading-620, Writing-635
Not many extra-currium but many work experiences(Bank teller, customer rep. Supervisor at couple retail stores that I used to work at, etc.)

I just gonna stay at Baruch, finish my undergrad there… But I would like to express how disappointed I was at that moment. BTW, I applied to NYU before when I was a high school student. now, as a sophomore, I replied and got rejected again! Probably my background? I’m a Chinese American.

However, I wish yall luck

@worth1028
I am sorry to hear that. But it makes me feel more hopeless about my application after hearing your case coz you do look like a competitive candidate but was still rejected.

Hey guys, I’m the one that lives in The Towers, if you have any specific questions you can PM me, but I just wanted to let you know that The Towers already has students from different schools like Baruch and City or Hunter and it really makes no difference. It is true that you definitely meet most people in class but I have made really great friends at the Towers, especially my roommates and often they go to different schools but it isn’t like you are going to be in the same classes with the people you meet here, so it doesn’t matter if they are at another school.
Oh and someone mentioned that the Towers is dry which is true, you are not allowed alcohol on the premises but obviously there are ways around that! LOL! Plus there is a bar a few blocks away that sells kegs for $20 and lets just say they don’t card so… ;)
