Official NYU 2011 Transfer Thread

yes i was accepted coolio. You can see my stats on NYU Transfer Decisions 2011

Enve520- yes, it’s a very difficult program to get into, even for NYU students. I knew when I applied, but I also knew that I’ve taken many of the required courses and done well in them, and I have a background that works well with my major. I’ll be trying again for Spring, though. A lot of people suggested I apply for an easier major, but nothing else interests me like international relations.

Congrats srivera. I know you were stressing out over it like me. =P

WOW. I knew NYU was stingy with financial aid, but 44k in loans a year? Time to do some serious scholarship work…

I heard the same thing. I thought transfer students couldn’t apply to the IR program.

@moxiemaya: I really can’t believe you were rejected. There are some on here who claimed to be competitive applicants, but they’re EC’s pale in comparison to yours. I’m really sorry.

@moxiemaya - Apply for political science and then get into International Relations?

NYU hurry up!!! Like I cant even explain how late this fucxing decision is. I was told early may… I’m probably not gonna hear until late august. This ruining my entire summer!!!

@danny8: I think even late August is being optimistic. lol All I keep doing is checking my email. However, I’ve already signed up for summer classes elsewhere, so apart of me has put waiting on them to the side.

wow, I just got my financial aid information. My efc was about 11000. This was my breakdown from NYU:

Tisch Scholarship 5,500.00
Federal Work Study 3,000.00
Loan 54,966.00

I heard that NYU was bad at giving financial aid but I’m kinda shocked that it was this bad. I guess I can appeal, but I heard that they typically only give another 1-2k. There’s no way my parents can afford that much in loans; they’re going through bankruptcy. It looks like NYU is out of the question. There’s just no way I can take out $110,000 in loans for a film degree. I mean a degree from tisch in film is great, but to be honest I’m not even guaranteed to have a job when I graduate; a degree in film doesn’t guarantee anyone a job. In all probability I’ll be working for very low wages. It sucks.

Did anyone actually get a good FA package?

for those who got accepted without there transfer credits showing up: How long after your email did they show up?? Mine still are empty and I cant view my financial aid either
any info would be helpful

My 2012 award is “not accessible yet.” It doesn’t say no financial aid like before, but they won’t let me click on it. Ughhh

Has anyone heard from NYU today? Because I’m almost positive that the decisions only come out on tuesday/thursday…

I definitely think there is something to the Tuesday/Thursday theory. However, today was also the massive Yankees Stadium graduation with Bill Clinton, so I was not expecting to hear anything today.

So is the consensus that those who still haven’t heard are an “invisible” waitlist such that as accepted students decline their admission then slots open and admission is offered to more applicants? I still haven’t heard anything and I talked to Dean of Admissions personally and he said that he could not give me an answer over the phone and that no decision has been reached. Wait 2 weeks. I didn’t even apply for financial aid so this seems the only plausible explanation.

i still havent heard from stern…NOTHING

Guys I Just got off of the phone with admissions. I spoke to Tisch specifically but this may apply to all schools. The head of admissions told me that all of the applications are divided into 7-10 groups. I asked her if they were based on marks or talent and she said no. They were random. Each day (Tues/Thurs * I think) they send out the rejections as well as the acceptances for a different group. This has been going on since early may so because we haven’t heard yet does not mean we are rejected. Rather, this means that we have been placed in one of the latter groupings. Good luck to all, i hope this helps!

So, should we be hoping that people in one of our divided groups essentially “suck” and we “rock?”

Because, that idea (at least in my mind) of applicant pooling/division, sucks. Maybe that is just me. :/… Though, it makes me feel better(ish).

Thank you for finding that out though!

@danny8

Thanks for the heads up. That just took a lot of stress away from me :)

@Lauren229

Haha well it’s up to you. Personally I would never hope that anyone sucks, I would rather hope that my application stands out amongst fellow applicants. Yeah so hopefully we’ll hear tomorrow. Though I desperately want to get in, @ this point I would be satisfied with an answer. I know know painful this waiting game is on all of us who have not yet heard. However, I don’t think NYU respects the extent of stress that this waiting has caused all of us.

Mainly, what I don’t like about the division of applicants is the waiting game that occurs from it. During this waiting process, I have had to put my deposit down for one school, pick housing off campus (and it would be awful of me to screw these girls over to end up going to NYU if I get in, but I wouldn’t want to live on-campus at that school), and now have to choose my classes asap simply because I haven’t heard a decision one way or another from NYU.
