Official NYU 2011 Transfer Thread

When are we going to hear from MCC already… has anyone head from them yet? My birthday is next Thursday & I’m hoping to know by then, lol

I called them today regarding my status. I applied as a MCC major and the guy told me my file was complete and that they just received my spring grades i had faxed in. He seemed pretty cool and when i asked him about my decision he had a nice tone so im hoping he saw some sort of sign on there that was positive. I asked how long until I would hear a decision and he said within the next week and a half… but then he said but actually you might hear even sooner. idk… could be good or bad. we shall see

Was it a student ambassador or a counselor?

I wouldn’t be surprised if some MCC decisions were released tomorrow.

@benellis

Really? I’ve started to think we’re going to wait until the last hour of May at this point…

im not sure, they answered the phone “admissions” and then transferred me to someone.

Yea hopefully tomo they do. but i applied 2 days before the deadline so ill prob be later.

Also, im applying from a CC in so cal, anyone else from here or the west?

@WunNyne - It’s possible you could hear tomorrow. The date you submitted your application doesn’t have any bearing on when you hear back.

@WunNyne

I’m a Californian as well. I’m at a CC in the bay area. From when I visited NYU, it seemed like there was a huge population of us over there.

I’m in the bay area as well and haven’t heard anything.

@caligulashorse
Then how does the admission office organize which application to view first?

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE with decisions tomorrow!!!

transfer credits showed up tonight. applied to steinhardt.
hs gpa- 3.5
college- 3.75

wrote my essay about buffy the vampire slayer. not kidding.

Alright, so I was rejected from NYU and waitlisted somewhere else… I now have two choices:

 1. Go to community college back home and either transfer to a UC or private school (like NYU again…). I’d be happier at CC because I really, really dislike my current school.
 2. Stay at my current school. This is what my family and many of my advisors/professors think I should do. The general consensus is that it will look better on my applications if I don’t jump around from school to school.

What do you guys think? Should I stay miserable at my current university, or go to CC and risk not getting accepted to any of the private schools I want to go to?

@moxie

After HS graduation, I went to CC. Then I transferred to a 4 year university. Then I took a semester off and volunteered abroad, then went back to CC this semester. Then I just got accepted to NYU.

Do what makes you happy.

@moxiemaya: I was absolutely miserable at my last school, so I transferred to a CC. If you plan to re-apply in the Spring, doing one semester at CC is not going to harm your chances of getting in. I think people really need to get rid of those negative views they have of CC. In your transfer essay, you have the opportunity to explain why you left your current school without bashing them.

@sssshore: I applied to SLC, and I’m still waiting for a decision.

@bellatheball - I TOTALLY agree with you about the CC stigma. Nearly all of my friends went to community college, loved it, and are now transferring to really good state schools (2 of them are going to Berkeley). I personally think I’d be better off there, but everyone else seems to disagree.

I went to a CC and this fall, one of my friends here is going to UPenn and another received a full ride to go to Temple. It is what you make it out to be.

Any Tischies with credits showing up today?

Haha Lord Jim, it’ll probably be better to ask sometime in the morning :P. (I doubt any admissions people are working at midnight :], more likely partying it up)
