it is nonrenewable until you receive a email from housing, which then changes to transfer

@tallfrodo/@rnjsdbsk when did you guys get the email?? also wells fargo is who i am going to be getting my student loan from (im gonna take out 20K a year) do i need to wait until i actually send in my deposit to apply for the loan? im taking out a student loan and my mom is gonna be my cosigner (she has like an almost perfect credit score) we don’t bank with WF but their site says you don’t have to bank with them to get loans from them so I figure getting loans from them won’t be hard at all…right?

@kmart
just got my email this morning. so it took about a week from the date my net id worked. umm… i have no idea about how the loan process works but i think it should be pretty easy since your mom has a perfect credit score. isn’t it a good idea to wait untill you get you fin aid package? by then you will have sent your deposit, know exactly how much you need, and i don’t think the payment is due till like…january?

@tallfrodo
ohh okay gotcha have you gotten your package in the mail yet??
i want to wait but at the same time im going out of town for a bit and i really want to have all that done-i mean NYU fin aid is probably going to give me nothing haha. but if payments aren’t due til January i should be fine. So before you got your email it said non-renewable housing for you but then after you got the email it switched?

@kmart
i haven’t checked my mail this week cuz of finals haha but i’m guessing when i check next tues it will be there.
i’m not sure about the payments being due in january though! just a guess haha
yea it was non-renewable before my housing email but it changed to transfer now - i think that’s why they say not to start it until we receive instructions.

seriously don’t feel like studying for finals loll

@rambo
I called the financial aid office and they said to check on Net Partner around Thursday or Friday next week.

@Kmart I got my housing email yesterday, in the morning :)

@alian3

Sounds good! Just keeep me posted.
I"m thinking about applying to NYU, but if the financial aid isn’t great, then I don’t think I can:/

is getting a private loan going to be hard (as long as my mom signs as a cosigner)? because my mom is continuously stressing me out about money for college and i need her to get off my back (which is why i want to apply for loans asap).

@tallfrodo hah i know what you meeean i had my finals thursday and last night and it was SO hard to study!

@kmart I have a question! how do you log on to financial aid page?

Can you guys please shed some light on my chances of getting in?

College gpa: 3.8 honors program
EC: really good volunteer experience
Recently involved in student government
Good rec and amazing essay (so ive been told)
Major: English/political science

High school: not amazing, average gpa
SAT: average, does this matter?

What are my chances am I a good candidate? Does my amazing time in college shadow my average one in high school? In my essay I explain the reason for my redemption if you could call it that. Please help guys I’m nervous. Also transferring in as a junior.

For letters of recommondation, what qualities are they looking for?

My professor, who is a really nice lady, said that since she doesn’t know me that well, I should write a letter of recommendation MYSELF, in her name, and submit it. If she thinks that it’s good enough, she’ll sign it and send it in. I have a 100% in her class, so she’s given me this chance. =D

i want to apply for a parent plus loan for sophmore, junior and senior year–my mom has an almost perfect credit score–do you think we’d be able to get those loans? That’s all it’s based off of, right? Credit score?

Haven’t been on here for a while. I’ve been busy with finals. Last one tomorrow. Congrats to those who have been accepted. Make sure you guys post in the http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/transfer-students/1036986-nyu-2011-transfer-decisions.html. It’ll help out those looking to gauge where they stand.

You’d have to go down to your local bank. In fact, our accounting teacher was telling the class this is one of the best times (if you have to) to borrow money, etc. He’s refinancing his home because the rates are so low. I believe around 3.8%. He remembers when anything close to 7% was excellent. Credit score is very important. It definitely helps she has good credit. She might have to secure the loan with collateral but the credit score might assist her with an unsecured one. Try shopping around for the best rates. Make sure you read the small print too.

yeah that’s what i’m hearing. but the PLUS loans are through the FAFSA and govt so i think they rely solely on the credit score (hopefully). it’s less messy to borrow this way rather than through a bank with a private loan-i’m hoping it works out i mean…there have got to be some loans out there somewhere for me-my problem is my mom would be my cosigner but she’s been a stay at home mom receiving alimony and child support so she hasn’t had a steady job and my dad doesn’t agree with my life choice (NYU) and thus wouldn’t be my cosigner (for private loans) so I’m relying on government loans (i think-we’ll see). my dad is still paying $20k of my tuition because he is forced to (via divorce papers-sorry i feel like im unloading personal info on you guys but i’m just providing insight to my financial standing). my dad makes a lot of money but refuses to pay more. so i hope I can get parent PLUS loans :)

@tallfrodo
did the housing email come on your NYUhome account?

has any one that applied early decision under Heop get acceptance yet

Giving this a much needed bump. Hopefully the fall transfer applicants will start appearing.

fiiinally got my housing email! so that’s all taken care of. I still can’t access NetPartner-it gives me an error page. I’m going to call NYU fin aid office in January when they reopen to see what’s happening there. Is anyone else having trouble using NetPartner?

I’m applying for fall, so I’m just getting into my application now… fun stuff…
