NYU dorms, I guess. I’m not really familiar with what sophomore dorms are like, etc.

I don’t wanna go through the process of researching that and not get accepted at the end. Would be even more disappointing.

If you ever want to check them out. I remember my tour guide was living at Gramercy Green. Said it was state of the art. Marble counters, touchscreen microwave, etc. She sold me. haha.

I’m still working on my essay and supplements (I’m applying to more schools than just NYU, which makes the main Common app essay difficult to write). I’m hoping to get everything out within the next week or so. My scores have been sent, my letter of recommendation will be sent soon (I’m wondering if I need more than one though because I think I know someone who could write me another), and I’m going home to get my HS to send my transcript tomorrow (still need to figure out who I have to talk to at my university about getting my college one sent).

Does anyone know how long it takes from the status downloaded in common app until they send out the NYU ID??

I got my application downloaded on 2/13/2011. It was on Sunday??? Since then, I haven’t received any NYU ID. Does it mean the admission officer read my essay and he doesnt bother to know more about me??

Also, do we need to send the mid year report of spring grade to them? Please let me know.

Thank you very much…

Slow down. You’re over analyzing this too much. I looked at my emails from last year. I submitted my application along with the supplement on December 9. I received an email acknowledging the receipt of my application, and included was my NYU ID. Give it some time. In addition, this was for freshman admissions. NYU is not going to touch transfer applicants until freshman decisions have been completed.

omg thank you so much for letting me know.

I dont know why but I just cant wait …

However, I just received 2 mails from commonapp saying that the main and the supplement have been sent. There is also a receipt for my payment. But there isnt any NYU ID on that. Anyway, I will wait a while.

Thank you very much.

My bad. I meant to say I received 2 emails on December 9 from the Common App saying the application and supplement were sent. I then received an email on December 14 from NYU stating they received the application, and it included the NYU ID.

There is no need for the ID now anyways. Like I said, you’ll most likely start hearing admission decisions in mid May. A lot of time.

Question: A friend of mine is transferring to CAS; he’s a first-generation student and was wondering how to specify that in his common app. Is it enough to just list his parents’ degrees as “none” ?

Correct. It is implied with the “none” degree selection. I believe there is even a question regarding the highest level of education for a sibling. No need to explain or comment on it.

My God. I’m an idiot. I misread and thought the deadline for NYU was MARCH 1st not April 1st, so I’ve been freaking out. Then I came to this thread, saw people wrote April 1, and I was like “what…?”. Haha this makes me feel soooooo much better.

But I was also going to apply to Polytechnic Institute of NYU (I have no clue what its affiliation with NYU is, but I think they’re at least related enough for me to ask this in this thread) and I had no clue about when the admission deadline for that was. Collegeboard.org says priority transfer application is due before March 1, but the Polytechnic webby says AUGUST 1…I’m pretty confused. Anyone know?

I would take what the official website says, instead of what collegeboard says. Collegeboard isn’t always accurate or up to date.

I think the link below will help you with the affiliation questions.

[:: Polytechnic Institute of NYU :: Affiliation](http://archive.poly.edu/affiliation/faq/)

I agree with @Alletta. Always go with the official website. I tried looking but couldn’t find the date.

Ahh. Also, I forgot to mention that Commonapp doesn’t have a date at all for Poly, so that was another reason why I was confused. Thanks though.

@Mitch, “While NYU-Poly accepts students on a rolling basis, it should be noted that our priority deadline for fall transfer admission is no later than August 1, while our deadline for spring transfer is no later than December 1.”

Would you be willing to read my essay? You’re the only one who I trust here, and you’re the resident NYU transfer expert, so I can think of no one better than you. I’ll PM it to you.

One more question I had for you was, you’re applying Fall 2012, right? Why don’t you apply fall 2011 as well? If you get rejected, it won’t make a difference and you can apply 2012 as well, but maybe you could get accepted. Two shots are better than one.

@giantmidget

I appreciate the kind words. I just got your PM. I’ll definitely read it over and try to get back to you in a few days. Most likely the end of the week.

You are right. I could apply this year but I just want to have the best application possible. I feel like applying next year I will be able to accomplish this. Also cost is a factor. Right now I am at a CC so my tuition is a fraction of what NYU’s is currently. As notorious as NYU is for their limited FA, two years will benefit me greater than paying for three.

is that possible for us to physically come to the office of admission?

I really want to drop few materials in March when I visit NY.

@MitchAPalooza: Hi Mitch, do you think I should call them for my NYU ID? It has been 9 days since I submit my application.

Do I need to submit the SAT test if I have about 45 credits already? Im applying for CAS

Yes. You drop them off at the Jeffrey S. Gould Welcome Center. Directions: [url=<a href=“Visit NYU”>Visit NYU]Visit Us/url
I would still wait. Like I previously mentioned, they are most likely inundated with freshman applications. Decisions are not going to be sent out for a while so you still have time. In addition, the ID serves no purpose. (There seems a way that you can check through a system but it is not a reliable method, and in addition the consequences might outweigh the benefits. See Stanford students who were accepted but had their admission rescinded because they checked through a school website.)
I asked this when I went. The response was if you have more than 30 credits (generally a year’s worth of credits) and are in your second year you do not need to submit your SATs. Of course, if they’ll benefit you in some manner then send them in.

Hey guys,

im lookingto transfer to stern from villanova school of business. Im not looking for peopleto chance me or anything but i wanted to see if you guys think this would be attainable?

@MitchAPalooza

Thanks a lot.

Btw, are you applying to any other universities? I’m debating whether to apply BU as well (I really want to go to a big city, so BU and University of Chicago are some of the ones I considered), but I applied for NYU Study Abroad in London, and if I get accepted in that, I’d rather spend a semester in an NYU program before reapplying to NYU for junior year, since I feel that would boost my application.

@Shake147

People have transferred from community colleges, so being from Villanova would definitely not hurt. If you’re good enough, you will get in.

That depends on several factors though:
GPA
Extracurriculars
Essay
Recommendation
Whether you’ve finished pre-requisites
High School Record

@Shake147

Welcome. As you alluded to in your statement, no one can really give you an accurate chance since we are not qualified to do so. The best thing to do is compare your stats from previous years of applicants who were accepted into Stern. I posted some numbers about 10 pages back. (I apologize for the laziness.)

I do not know to what extent you are familiar with the transferring process but I believe there are crucial aspects to successfully transferring to your desired school. These include: strong GPA, course rigor, formulated reason(s) for transferring (besides NYU is in NYC, etc there needs to be substance in the reasons), and relevant extra curricular activities.

I would take a look at the links below. If you meet or exceed the majority of what I listed above, then the prospective of admissions are high.
