Correct. I specifically asked this to the officer leading the tour. She said as long as you had over 30 credits (a year’s worth of units) you did not have to submit standardized test scores.

I don’t really understand what you’re saying. If you’re asking if our school gives out mid-term reports for every class, then no. I’m just basing it off my grades so far in each of those classes.

If you’re just commenting my grades are ‘solid’, then well yeah, I study hard lol

How much do mid-term grades really help? My GPA for my first semester at college was a 3.67. Currently I’m taking 4 classes, 2 labs, and I have A’s in all of them.

Although I only currently have 15 credits how much weight would they take my horrible high school GPA compared to my 3.67 1st semester GPA and current mid-year grades of straight A’s?

I’m applying to CAS. And also, does this mean the fact that I have my NetID, doesn’t mean I’m admitted like it did before?

Since you are applying as a freshman applicant, your HS grades, standardized scores, ect will hold far more weight than someone who is applying in their second year. It is in your best interest to send a midterm grade report because you are receiving good grades this semester. This of course will help.

So are you basically saying that until I’m in my sophomore year in college, no matter what my GPA in my 1st/2nd year as a freshman in college is, my HS grades will carry much more weight?

@Sterntransfer:
I’m almost certain internal transfers get priority in some sense. I was talking to a kid who transferred internally to Stern last year and he told me that after taking the required classes you just have to meet the GPA cutoff they have set for internal transfers. So if your GPA was good last semester you should be set.

hm, i can see how this might be true, but there is definitely a gray area in terms of the prerequisites. after having been to the stern advising office a few times, i definitely know that they value having taken and succeeded in calculus above anything else. but after that, they said that some people who they have accepted had not completed some of the prerequisites. for example, surely having taken financial accounting is a more important prerequisite than having taken a great books course.

also, i think that this year, they definitely put less emphasis on having taken managerial accounting. i think it may not be a prerequisite anymore, but definitely helps to take it.

definitely not a black and white type of situation i would say

@SternTransfer
Yeah, I’m not entirely sure about the prerequisites. I would assume that Micro and Calc are a must since every Stern freshman I know will have taken those by the end of this year, but there are some kids who won’t have taken say, Stats or Financial Accounting so I’m not sure about those classes as far as them being prerequisites. Do you know when you get your decision?

I’m getting ready to submit everything soon, hopefully by monday. I’m just wondering if there is anything else I can do to help my chances. I’m applying to MCC at Steinhardt.

I think it’s interesting that NYU doesn’t really care if any relatives have attended like most other schools seem to. There is no place to mention it on the supplement… a little bit annoying because I have a few alumni in my family.

i have already read that piece of information. while it is interesting that they notify applicants on a rolling basis, there is no way to know when one will be notified – it is obvious that they will notify before the end of the academic semester!
