Official NYU 2011 Transfer Thread

I don’t think there’s anything to really worry that much about regarding acceptances. Although it is certainly interesting that few people have already heard back from NYU I wouldn’t take that to mean that acceptances are being mailed out only two weeks and a little after the application deadline. What I’ve heard is that the vast majority of us will hear starting early May and actually carrying into mid-May.

Hey guys, just wondering what you think my chances are:

Intended dramatic writing major within Tisch
Current sophomore at averagely ranked NJ state school (film & advertising double major)
High School GPA: 3.6
SAT: 1800
College GPA: 3.72

ECs:
Honors college
Honors student ambassador
campus ad agency copywriter
campus tv station writer
on campus job at recreation center
Dean’s List
tennis team

I assume my letters of recommendation are decent (one from high school guidance counselor, other from film professor)
and i submitted a portfolio with two short stories

this whole waiting thing is such a drag…

any feedback would be great!

okletsdoit555: I think you are pretty good. Although ur SAT is a little low, I heard NYU film school has a lower standard on SAT scores. My frd got in as freshman and she had a similar SAT score like yours

okletsdoit555: – im in the same boat… i have a 1740 sat but a 4.0… hopefully my sats wont hurt me… and if ur already a sophomore u shouldnt have to send ur sats, if u have completed over 30 credits.

okay guys… just read the thread for transfers 2010… we have a long way to go!!! they didnt get emails/notifications until may 15th and on!! also they were talking about this netid thing and if you plug it in and it works… i guess once the majority of the decisions have been made… then you are prob accepted… what do u guys think?

@srivera: which netid are you talking about? The one that we were assigned to log into albert?
I was excited seeing one person said decision would be made by May,but the reality is we have to wait for a month… :(

yea the one u log onto at nyuhome…
what do u think my chances r liangg

Hm, so does anyone have things they definitely sent in that Albert has not checked off? Both my high school and college transcripts aren’t checked off as received even though I sent them in January, although my SAT/ACT scores are checked off. Kind of freaks me out a bit, ahaha, and the fact that I only got notice from them 8 days ago about my overall application being received when I sent it in a while ago only compounds the anxiety :(

^Caligulashorse - Exactly same situation as yours. Got an e-mail 8 days ago (although I was able to generate a NetId using my social security), and my college transcripts and and high school scores aren’t checked, but my Standardized Test scores are.

Was in the same situation and e-mailed admissions, they assured me my transcripts were in and Albert would be updated in the next couple weeks. So don’t worry!!

i never recieved an email!!! what does that mean! even though i did speak with nyu about 2 weeks ago and they said they had all my documents

Well, if they said they had all your documents, I wouldn’t worry about it. But I’d call them anyway.

srivera617: I think your college GPA is pretty good, but GPA really depends on how tough your school is. You know what I mean? I don’t know how much NYU values GPA and SAT. My college GPA is lower than yours but my SAT is higher than yours. I am very worried too. Do you have hospitality-related experience? As hospitality industry is a hands-on industry, Im sure that NYU will value experience.
I still don’t understand how the Netid thing indicate if we are admitted…Can you explain?

@CityfilmTran which email did you email them at?
I emailed NYU regarding incomplete app and did not hear back from them.

@uuinus I used admissions.ops@nyu.edu

I can account for my low SAT scores and the reason why my GPA decreased in years following my freshmen year, because of health issues in high school. However, I never included that in the Common App. Do you think I should just write a letter and send it in addition to my already submitted application?

I am more worried that my SAT scores will really hurt my chances of getting in.

Yeah, I’d send a letter. I had extenuating circumstances in early high school, and I was advised to write a letter explaining things to put my grades in context. At worst, the explanation won’t affect anything (and at best, it’ll help).

just called NYU and spoke with a counselor - they have all my documents and told me that sending a letter about scores is unnecessary (college transcripts and highschool transcripts for incoming sophomores is what matters) and that we should hear by May 15th or earlier. He said to me that since my application is entirely complete i should hear soon, so everyone get ur materials in. Also, if you guys are waiting for other deadlines, he said you could prob call by around that time and see if you can get an answer.

hey all, ok so I just checked my albert and under the transfer credit…they list all the classes that i have that have “transfered” over to NYU. I called to ask them what that might mean but they wouldnt give me an answer and told me to just keep waiting. Do any of you have your transfer credit listed too???

@srivera617: I want to write a letter explaining why my gpa dropped from my freshmen year to my senior year, because I know colleges expect students to improve their gpa each year. After all, I only have one semester of college completed.

@tofumaster9: Mine does not list any transfer credits on Albert. Maybe that’s a (good) sign for you.
