Official NYU 2011 Transfer Thread

Hey everyone, been following this thread for sometime now, and thought I would join in. I’ve applied to Tisch, and have been attending SVA for a year and half (though had to take medical leave this past semester). I have a 3.65 cumulative gpa and 1610 sat score, which I know is not very good, but considering I’m a Sophomore and have decent grades I’m guessing that might not matter all that much. I got one excellent rec and another very good one, and don’t have many ECs. This is also my second time applying to Tisch. If anyone is interested, here is a link to the film I submitted as my portfolio - [YouTube - LXXXV REMEMBER! 0](<a href=“LXXXV REMEMBER! 0 - YouTube”>LXXXV REMEMBER! 0 - YouTube)

Any opinion would be greatly appreciated! I unfortunately misread the portfolio requirements as only submitting one film-equaling 10 minutes or less, but after looking through this thread and others, I realize that I could’ve submitted multiple films as long as it totaled to 10 mins. or under. I have a decent sized and varied portfolio, and was wondering if anyone knows if it would be too late to send in a couple of other shorts? Anyway, from what I’ve seen and read so far, there are a lot of very talented applicants, and I wish everyone the best of luck!

@srivera617, haha thanks. I feel like this is a terrible time for her to be on break; right smack dab in the middle of admissions.

I was just expecting to know about Fordham before the semester ended here, but I guess that’s not happening (finals week is this upcoming week).

Around, I called a few days ago about submitting new material. They told me they can’t guarantee they can look at what you send in time, but to send it in anyway. They’re pretty backlogged with applications and sorting through everything, so I personally think time’s on your side.

You go to SVA, you say? If you don’t mind me asking, what didn’t you like? My friend is a sophomore studying animation there, and I haven’t heard much bad about it from her.

yea coolio… i really dont no what to say… its annoying and they did this last year too… they deferred me then waitlisted me then waitlisted me again only to tell me in august (10 months after i originally applied) that there werent enough spots for me. there admissions are ridiculous. i really do think they are waiting for lincoln center freshman to submit there deposits… then we will no

Caligulashorse, thanks so much for the answer, I’m feeling a huge wave of relief!

I actually like SVA very much and I’d highly recommend it to anyone, most the professors there are experienced and very talented at what they do, and I’m grateful for the insight and knowledge I’ve gained as a filmmaker. Personally though, I’ve just been feeling like I need to take it a step higher and “aim for the moon”. But if it doesn’t work out, I can’t say I’ll be too disappointed to end up back at SVA.

I applied to CAS- International Relations

Hey guys, I can’t see anything on application status… like blank… Is there anyone else who has same prob. like me?

@ellomeno, I appied to CAS political science/German…what are your stats like/which school are you currently attending?

I thought transfers couldn’t apply for IR.

yeah, i actually thought that as well. I think you can only apply for IR once you were accepted to NYU.

For anyone with problems with app status on Albert,

Mine used to say this application is incomplete. Now, it doesn’t say anything. I called the admissions office and a really nice lady picked up and told me that it was probably complete and decisions will be going out on May 1st.

So don’t worry :)

@conncoll20 where does it state transfers cannot apply for IR?

lolgirl my application used to say incomplete and now doesnt say anything as well. i no heard somewhere that decisions could be going out through may 15th and i was told my app was complete so i guess if decisions go out by may first thats a good thing. what are your stats?

@ellomeno

I found this at [NYU > CAS > Bulletin 2010 - 2012 > International Relations > 2010 - 2012 > Program of Study](http://cas.nyu.edu/object/international.1012.ug.req)

"We cannot consider applications to the IR honors major for students outside of NYU until the student is formally enrolled at NYU. Students transferring from another college within NYU may apply up until the fall of their junior year in certain cases. "

@lolgirl - Did they say all decisions will be done on May 1st, or that they will start from the first of May? In any case, I think they will start from May 2nd, because the 1st is a Sunday.

They start releasing on May 1st and will continue to do so throughout the month.

@giantmidget, that is also what i heard! at my current school, I am an IR major, but after reading that i changed it to poli sci/german

Wow i had no idea- why did they even have that as an option then :expressionless:
does anyone know NYU admissions email

admissions@nyu.edu

@Caligulashorse: where did you learn that they start releasing results on May 1st? I thought it was May 15…

@liangg - Well the NYU website says that the notification date is “beginning early to mid May”
