Official NYU 2011 Transfer Thread

@coolio If only I had the problem of being too GOOD at math to do well on the SATs…
I wish I had retaken my SATs too. The fact that I was a pretentious college snob last year didn’t help much either. I somehow managed to convince myself that I was getting into Columbia (I’m too idealistic for my own good), which totally screwed me over. And now I’m in hell. At least the semester is almost over. Counting down the days!!!

@caligulashorse Thanks! Oh, it’s so rare to meet someone who takes this stuff voluntarily!! In my Latin class about 94% of the people complain to the prof. that Latin is so pointless and no one will ever do anything with it in their lives. They sure make me feel good about my decision to major in it.
Oh, and good luck! Hope you get an email from NYU soon!

@likewow Didn’t it say that in the email? Or was I hallucinating? On Albert it just told me my award status wasn’t available or whatever, but I thought they said something about it in the email…I’ll have to recheck now.

I have a question. I sent in my mid-term report and about 2 of my professors recorded S (satisfactory) as my mid-term grade. It simply means they didn’t have an actual grade for me at the time. However, three of my professors recorded A’s for me, because they did have grades for me. Do you think NYU will look suspiciously at the S since I have actual grades in my other classes? One of the professors who wrote the S in as my midterm grade did write in the comments section that I was an “outstanding student.” By the way, I used the Common App form. For midterm grades, my school only allows professors to record S or U (if I had sent the school’s version of the midterm grades).

@bella

I think as long as you specified (or they know) what S and U stand for, I think you’ll be fine. Two of my professors said the same thing to me, but I just told them my grade right now in the class was an A, so there was no reason not to put an A on the report.

My school doesn’t officially report midterm grades. Should I still be sending a midterm report?

@Cloudyafternoons - Oh, I know. People are required to take a language here for 2 years, so you get tons of people who took the language in high school grudgingly taking it to meet curriculum requirements. Luckily, after my initial 200-level class, those people disappeared and only the people who actually like the language have remained.

@benellis No, I don’t think NYU asks for one. And, really, I don’t think there’s a point in sending one this late anyway; semester’s ending soon anyway.

@ahagirl @benellis

Awesome! Hopefully we’ll hear back soon. I’m assuming it might take longer to hear back since they’re examining not only our academic records but our separate audition packages! I’m so nervous… Ah man.

@ahagirl I really hope they are more lenient towards Steinhardt applicants. Especially because my college GPA was not as strong as it should have been :-/

Where are you guys planning to transfer from?

I asked this before, but will ask again. Does anyone have any feedback (theirs, friends, anyones) on how NYU CAS will evaluate their transcript for MAP classes. I am not willing to go on the 5 year plan.

@HPTransfer: I applied to MCC, so I didn’t audition or anything like that. I don’t know if that means I’ll hear before you or what… :/

@benellis - It’s hard to tell if you’ll get it earlier or not because with admissions you never know how they decide when to notify the applicants. I’m hoping both of us hear back very soon, because the wait is absolutely devastating! If I had to guess, I’d assume you’d hear back earlier than me because your application doesn’t have to be double-checked by a program director after the admissions board or vice versa; hopefully you’ll hear good news soon :-)

The wait kills …

I just called the admissions office and asked when Steinhardt applicants would hear back and she responded “beginning from May 1st.” Kind of the generic answer I expected, but I’m guessing that we’d probably receive something next Monday earliest; since the admissions office is closed on Sundays (unless they somehow generated their systems to send us e-mails which I highly doubt)

Ah man! I feel like a hs senior nervously awaiting decisions all over again!

hello, I’m new at this thread … can anyone help me with my admission status?

On my Albert page only some items appear as checked in the Complete column, but my high school transcripts do have the correct description but are not checked, while my college transcripts are neither checked nor described …

Does that mean that they are missing those documents?

thank you.

@HPTransfer: LOL I don’t want to specifically say where but it’s one of the good CUNY schools :slight_smile: And don’t worry about the gpa, although I can’t tell you whether you will get in or not, you are not alone in ‘is this good enough?’ Gpa LOLz. Where are you transferring from? Did you also do optional audition?

@benellis: it’s great to hear that someone is also applying to Steinhardt:) I didn’t submit my midterm report either so don’t worry! My professors actually declined to sign the sheet so I had to call the admissions office and make sure that I don’t need to submit it.

Wuuuh! post 1111 ^ :)

@moniso - They may be missing them, or they may not. On mine, both my high school and college transcripts are still listed as missing, even though the admissions office told me last week they did have my high school transcript. They’re not the best at updating Albert, so it’s better just to find out from an admissions counselor directly what you’re missing (if anything).

@moniso: I had the same problem so I called the admissions office to check. They said that they are having some problem updating the page, so unless u received an email last week that some documents are missing, you are fine. I really wouldn’t rely on Albert login at this point.

Hi Thread!

I’m sorry if this has been reposted before but if you see on your transfer credits page that your previous course credits have shown up this definitely guarantees admissions. I was reading this thread yesterday and realized that my credits have shown up; today I got the confirmation. Best of luck to everyone else out there and remember that good things come to those who wait.

Cheers!

@ahagirl & @caligulashorse

thanks!

For all those really unsure about your app status (whether all materials have arrived or not) it’s really your call. My app didn’t say anything but I wanted to make sure everything was ok on my end. I called yesterday and apparently they hadn’t coded my HS transcript properly. They would have done it on their own, maybe, but I did not receive an email letting me know they lacked a transcript (they had it, just not logged). Calling them resulted in my app being ready to read.

And the Steinhardt applicants *(I’m applying to MCC, no audition/portfolio) we’ve seen students from other schools (CAS/Gallatin/Stern at least) getting in already. I kind of feel that Steinhardt may be holding applications until they can release a bunch of decisions at once.

On the phone, they said I (a steinhardt applicant) should expect to hear back by the second week of May.

Again, this is all with a grain of salt. My HS transcript was a special case because I was enrolled in IB (a program) & it hadn’t been coded. And, 2nd week of May sounds reliable but every Admissions counselor will say something else. There’s no definite date.

Also, if you call to check up on something specific with your app call the admissions dept & ask to speak with an admissions counselor.

has anyone been accepted or rejected from steinhardt as a transfer? and can you post your stats

looking to transfer into my junior year there… and haven’t heard anything- they received all my materials, but they haven’t begun showing credits that will transfer over…

by the way this is all for fall 2011

Ugh the wait is killing me! I really hope that I find out by this Friday or the weekend will be killer.
