Official NYU 2011 Transfer Thread

@enve520 - I don’t know if it is rolling admissions… because I applied the 29th… and I got accepted already… ? So idk… That wouldn’t really make sense for me to have heard back already.

yes, i believe everyone has an nyu email, id, and all those other little numbers. so far there have been no ways of finding out if you got in or not… besides MAYBE seeing that you have courses listed that could be transferred within Albert.

if you go to nyulogin and log in, your email account should be at the very bottom of the page, left hand corner. there is also a button under the main NYU HOME sign that says email

Also… I was wondering… is anyone planning on living in dorms? Cause I am… I just don’t know how that will work out… because of being a transfer student… wouldnt we get like last pick or whatever? and just be stuck in whatever one has rooms left over? Idk… Also… I’m slightly worried about who I would have to room with… like… I’m not sure how they pick who gets to room with who… >_>"

Hmm, definitely never got an e-mail adress… It is unavailable for me. Dun dun dun.

@KingSundra – The dorm situation is unnerving, but transfers will be last to pick as current students chose between Feb.-April… If accepted, I’m afraid I am going to be stuck with someone who is so totally different from me with likes, dislikes, etc. that it will be a nightmare simply because i’d be a new student.

NYU does have semester rates for housing so maybe it would be possible to change it up then for the spring… Anyone know?

@lauren229 - dont worry about the email thing… It isnt open for me… and I’m accepted. I’m worried about having to deal with ******bags… I’m thinking of doing the mixed dorms… or at least trying for those… girls make the best friends… just saying.

@KingSundru – I’d be terrified of having an uptight roommate anywhere. If they could be chill and cool and I could convert them into liking some of what I like, we’d be great! Haha.

@Lauren229 - XD That’d be cool lol. As long as I can get along with them… I’ll be happy… I’m just slightly nervous about making friends all over again… I had to do that at the college I’m at now… and it wasn’t too bad… but still not fun for a little bit… cause I’m shy at first… and then I get loud and crazy lol. XD Hopefully you get in :)! What school are you going for?

@kingSundru, if you applied the same date as me then you are probably just seen as a more competitive applicant! Hopefully it isn’t rolling then, unless its rolling after all the competitive applicants are accepted… i would definitely get a dorm! The dorms reserved for transfers are usually at Lafayette i believe, kind of far but still nice. I have a lot of friends at NYU and visit almost every month, I love all the students, even the weird ones. I wouldn’t worry about having a bad roommate, I haven’t met any, and from what I see its pretty easy to switch rooms if you need to, especially with students going away on all the amazing semesters abroad. as a transfer, i think having roommates and floormates will help get you mixed in with the school, especially since NYU is so independent.

also, if email isnt working for you, I was accepted to NYU summer abroad (just the summer program, not the school… i applied for this separately), so maybe my email account was set up because of that.
i really do not believe it is an indication of being accepted. unfortunately there are still no signs!

I’m just having a tough time figuring out how they are deciding who to respond to since it’s not from competitiveness of the applicants OR when prospective applicants applied. What else could it be? Gah.

King Sundru, what was your download date for your app?

@enve520 Ahhhh k gotcha… that makes sense. I’m just reeling that I got in still… I feel like they are going to send me an email and be like “Opps, we sent this to the wrong person.” lol. But yeah… I’m excited for it :). I’m just worried because of my stance on some issues/life choices… but I heard NYU is pretty open to all of that stuff… Sooooo… lol… I’m exciteeed! And… I hope you get in :). I only know one girl at NYU… and she was from my high school… and we haven’t talked in like two years lol…

I’m planning on getting involved in at least two or three clubs… if I can find some that I enjoy… XD

@oldwumpusale Download date was the 29th of March. I might have been deemed a competitive candidate based solely on my ACT score? Idk… If they are going to determine competitive candidates than they have to do it on something semi-quantitative… right? Idk… but that’d be my guess… or something from the common app? I know my essays and short answers were amazing… I took a long time to make sure I had something orginial to say on each of them - something they might not have run across before, playing on my likes and differences as a person.

hey guys, I am new to this thread.

I am a freshman and I applied to stern for finance. I also got an email this morning about submitting my midterm grades report. But I have this problem because the office of transcripts in my college does not have an official midterm grade report, and they said they do not have access to students’ midterm grades! Students are able to see their midterm grades online though…
So I replied the person from NYU and sent her a pdf file of the page that shows my midterm grades…
I also called the admission office to ask if its the midterm report from commonapp that I have to submit. The lady who answered my call sounded pretty frustrated and she was like “what commonapp? Just get an official report from your college…” And I told her that we don’t have that, and she just told me to send whatever I have…

So I figured that I will just print out that page which shows my midterm grades, and attach it to the common app midterm report (although I do not have signatures from any instructors), and mail it to NYU. What do you guys think?

I am so confused I don’t know what to do. And today is already the last day of class, I don’t think I will be able to find any instructor that can help me fill out the mid-term report.

@KingSundru I would totally be excited too! NYU is a dream school, no doubt. And people are open to EVERYTHING! its a large school, so you will definitely find all kinds of people. There are dorms reserved for students who aren’t into drinking or partying and then there are dorms with an open alcohol policy, meaning you can bring drinks in if you are 21 (not that they ever check!)

Yeah, its strange that we now get acceptances through email, it almost feels so unofficial I’d be scared to believe it too haha. Don’t worry, your stats were way good I definitely don’t think you should doubt yourself!

clubs are also a lot of fun at NYU, I would regularly take place for some people for a bowling intramural team, since they never checked IDs. my friends joined it as a joke, but we all ended up loving it.

sigh, i feel like i already go there :(

@Enve520 XD!!! Nicee… lol… I’m definately looking forward to the clubbing… and the partying… lol… And luckily… I’ll be 21 in December… lol. XD - I’m looking forward to meeting a lot of new people… XD Where do you go now? Obv somewhere in NYC?

@kingSundru

Did you get a notification via email or were you mailed something? And what is the date that is on the acceptance letter?

@tomokoshino

I am also a freshman that applied to stern for finance, and I had to submit a midterm report as well.

And to the others. Has anyone heard of stern decisions yet? 10 more days until the mid of May.

@kevin6192

How did you submit your midterm report? Have someone in your college fill out the form from CommonApp?

clubs are amazing! of course, especially since a lot of friends you’ll meet are wealthy, aka get vip sections for their birthdays and you get to party along! no i go to a community college in maryland :frowning: my first semester of college i went to an art school in nyc ( school of visual arts) and met my ex boyfriend who goes to stern. when i decided art school wasn’t for me anymore, i left but we stayed together for a year, and i would visit every 3 weeks basically. we broke up, but i still have all my close friends, plus a high school friend who goes there-- thats how i met him, they lived on the same floor!

partying is definitely fun in nyc, i dont think it could get any better. halloween is one giant party in the village, its amazing. its definitely a huge distraction though, but somehow all my friends are making 4.0s in stern or other difficult programs at CAS. NYU students are just fun and smart!

i just love nyc. if i dont get into nyu i must live in nyc again one day. I also applied to fordham so maybe that could be a back up!

@skiglp12161216 I got my acceptance letter via email on the 5/3/2011

@Enve520 oh… that’ll be nice… VIP sections… me and my friends get invited into them once in a blue moon when we go out… cause we party hard… sometimes… lol

Oh that’s cool that you know a bunch of people in NYC though :).

My friend applied to NYU (as a freshman) and didn’t get in… but she got into Hunter? But I don’t know anything about Hunter… I know it’s in NYC though. and hopefully you get in and we can go clubbing… I like clubs that let me in for free… aka… gay clubs lol. Every other club has like a 20$ cover for guys lol… which I won’t be able to afford even if I wanted to after I pay for tuition lol.

It’s really strange to me that they are sending some acceptance letters via email while others in the mail. I never received any email indicating my acceptance. My parents had to inform me that I got it in the mail.
