Official Princeton ED Results- Class of 2011

Calculus, I don’t know if you were joking or not, but I seriously doubt that your uncle would jeopardize his new job, by helping you to wiggle out of a binding contract.

Schools take ED very seriously and you might wind up without an acceptance from Harvard and with a revocation from Princeton if it became aware of your scheme.

@oasis: We seem to be somewhat similar applicants, except that you have taken more AP courses and have played an instrument, while my GPA and SAT I scores are slightly higher, but aside from that, same AMC score (dunno about AIME, can’t find it, is there a website where I can get it?), no varsity sports, both did some tutoring, want to go into math/science related fields.

I was thinking, perhaps we could try to help each other out by looking for opportunities to improve our applications. For example, the upcoming AMC12 may help - a Caltech admissions officer said that the scores will arrive in time to be considered in the college application’s context.

If you know C/C++/Java/Perl then you can participate in the USACO. It’s hard, but if you crammed for it by studying dynamic programming you could do very well.

Of course, all you math/science people who were deferred are free to join the discussion :)

What are all those AMC/AIME exams? I’ve never heard of them lol.

Deferred. sigh

Decision: DEFERRED

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I’m ok! Really, I was expecting it. I actually feel guilty about not being more crushed. Congrats to all of those who made it! You truly deserve it.

nelle, do you go to Naperville North or Central?

i like nelle’s thinking, what does anyone think i can do to improve, i am already planning to take another sat2, but what else?

@Calculus: with a username like yours, you should know about the AMC! The AMC is the American Math Competition, and the AIME is the next exam if you score over 100 AMC12 (not hard to do, as long as you leave 3/4 of the test blank and get the easy questions correct). The AIME is very hard - it’s 15 questions and most people only get two or three correct. If you do well on both tests, you go to the USA Math Olympiad (USAMO) where you compete as one of the top 250 kids in the nation. The top 5 or so go on to the International Math Olympiad, and are practically lock-ins for MIT.

These contests help your application, but as I posted elsewhere, multi-time USAMO goers get rejected from Princeton.

so sorry, maddy! i was sure youd get in…:(

lol…naa am over it really… atleast DEFERRAL is not a REJECTION (although they both entail the same thing…)lol

BTW, how u holding up Ernie?

Calculus,
Why apply to school that wasn’t your first choice ED? You took someone else’s place that probably loves the school. Plus, I don’t think you will be able to “wiggle” out of ED, I have read about people in the past who tried to play that game and attend Harvard or Yale when they had already committed to Princeton. Princeton tracks them down and then calls the other schools. You could end up rejected from both Princeton and Harvard. In fact, I almost hope that that does happen to you - SHAME ON YOU FOR PLAYING COLLEGE GAMES!!!

Yeah Calculus…I really hope you’re kidding. You are an amazing Hispanic applicant and while I don’t know precisely how URMs are treated in ED admissions, what if you took away a spot from a Hispanic applicant who was not as wealthy as yourself and who had worked just as hard or harder than you had?

Besides, why didn’t you just apply to Harvard SCEA if you wanted to go there?

I can’t figure out if he is serious about this or not, but as someone who has seen a lot of my favorite people get deferred, I’m a little annoyed by it.

Exactly. So you want to go to Harvard now, not Princeton?
